Saudis start killing off witnesses

Wow, first they kill off an evil member of the Islamic Brotherhood and now they kill off a guy who tortures and murders people.

They sure are cleaning up the streets of the Middle East.

There's plenty more where that lowlife came from... no real loss.

As the Trump administration starts its campaign to vilify Jamar Khashoggi,
His murder can be wrong even if we acknowledge that he was a bad guy too. No reason to glorify him as US media are doing. Especially WaPo, MSNBC and CNN.

MbS's goons have already taken out one of the witnesses. 14 to go... unless they can otherwise silence them.

Wouldn't being a "death squad torturer" be a perp rather than a witness?

In any case, if this wasn't just a regular car accident, it is natural that KSA would want loose ends tied up. It is basically mob running a country.

If you start killing off members of your death squads, doesn't it become more difficult to recruit people into your death squads? Given that this whole PR nightmare is the result of an incompetently done killing, you'd think that they'd instead want to take measures to ensure that they have the highest quality people in their death squads as opposed to creating barriers to entry into the business amongst the most skilled, who have a choice amongst multiple job offerings.

Well I think it depends on the immigration policy

Not in SA. There's a line of applicants a mile long - their history shows how much fun they have torturing and killing people. It's probably no more dangerous being a member of a death squad than any other profession.

Skilled trade visas are easy to get. If you are a high quality assassin, you're not standing in too many bread lines in today's world. Unless there's somebody in that bread line whom some government wants dead, of course, in which case you may as well pick up some bread while you're at work.

Yes, but this is my point. You don't want just anybody in your death squads. When hiring standards go down, you end up killing people publically in your foreign embassies and other stuff like that which your allies really need to go out of their way to not pay attention to. You want the best. If you're going to be killing your minions every time a murder goes bad, the highest quality individuals will go to a competing government's death squad instead for the sake of better job security and you'll be left with the second tier assassins.

That's a fair point. I wonder, though, what effect automation will have on their wages. Salah Muhammed al-Tubaigy made a name for himself in conducting seven minute autopsies, with the advent of technology we're going to see that sort of craftsmanship go the way of the dodo

Meh - sub-standard goons like that are prone to getting in fatal car crashes a day or few later. Really not a problem, since your allies are such strong supporters.

Surely Mr Marmalade can send them the Very Best People if they are needed to train the newbies, or to intercede themselves if indicated. Hands-on training by those Very Fine People can turn even a lowly butcher into a skilled operator in a few days.

Skilled assassins don't turn on some music and torture a guy to death. That's what happens when you underbudget your killings and hand off the contract to the lowest bidder.

If you want to murder dissidents in foreign countries, you fucking well pay the additional premiums and have the people vanished quickly with no fuss or screwing around. MbS saved a few thousand dollars by sending amateurs after this guy and now he's probably out billions due to the bad PR they generated by doing this half-assed job.

As an example, name the people killed off by Canadian Intelligence Services. You can't, can you? That's not because our government is made up of decent, moral people who avoid murdering those who get in the way of their interests or any bullshit like that, but because it's staffed by competent professionals who know how to pay for quality performance.

Jamal Khashoggi’s ‘death squad’ torturer ‘dies in suspicious car crash’

Please do not post unverified inflammatory claims like this and turn the forum into a fake news site. Unverified tabloid like speculation.

The speculation is all mine. The reporting is pretty consistent across numerous outlets.

I think most (nearly all) forum readers are quite familiar with my biases, so I have no inclination to hide them. Yes, I embedded my opinions in the OP, snd stated them as facts. No intent to deceive - those who would prefer to think "hey, car crashes are common in SA - so what?" are free to keep thinking that. (Car crashes ARE common in SA - not enough women drivers?). And if I thought that to be the case here, I would have stated THAT as a fact. My intent was to drive discussion on the story, not of my clickbait headline and sensationalized content. I'm not a journalist (but if you pay me like one, I'll refrain from inserting my biases into my content!).

Do you have a problem with the actual story being reported by everyone from Breitbart to Business-Standard and much of the other US&UK media?

I'm pretty sure OSHA doesn't keep statistics on Death Squad Technicians, but when a person's job is killing people, it's very likely anyone who perceives a threat, would be advised to kill them first. This alone would make DST a more dangerous occupation.

On the other hand, DSTs are well known for being reckless drivers.

Let's face it - they're basically disposable. It's not like they can just kill people willy nilly and expect to get paid; they need an employer, or in GOParlance, a "job creator", who can credibly promise true job security: lifelong employment.
If you're already in the employ of a job creator in some other capacity and he drafts you into DST service, what are you gonna do? You take the training, put on your headphones and do the job! And you do it well, because you might be the next "recruit"s first target.
Thank God (and Allah Akbar!) for our Job Creators and DSTs!
I'm now going to find that Bible and read from the Book of Job.

When I heard the details, my first thought was, "Good lord, someone's watched Reservoir Dogs once too often."

Probably the prince. This sounds more like a specific request rather than what a team of assassins would choose to do on their own.

It’s executive interference messing things up and getting in the way of letting professionals do the job they’re hired for, the same way that WB did for all the Superman films.

I thought everything was Jimmy Olson's fault.
