Nobody was arrested, and Wheeler will not be pressing charges. Typical Wheeler - soft on crime, even crime against himself.

Isn't the more interesting question whether those in power will use 1/6 as an excuse to curtail domestic civil liberties?
 
Gee, I don't know what political party would fathom of taking advantage of a notorious terrorist attack to implement draconian security legislation and impinge on civil liberties.

I remember in the Sydney Olympic games, Australia had trampoline jumping as an exhibition sport. Maybe 'murica should advocate whataboutism as an Olympic sport?

Although, I'm not sure America's best potential athlete in such a sport would be willing to share the podium with a black contender, so there is also that to consider as well.
 
A group of GOP senators have released a statement to the effect that impeachment is antithetical to healing the nation. Right. We had our own Benghazi, straight out of the molten core of this party, but it's time now (4 days later) to lay it to rest.

I condemn the violence, as I always have.
Demonstrate, yes.
Occupy public space, yes.
Work on the root causes, yes.

When the violence does happen - sometimes it is entirely predictable based on the grievances (not right, but predictable).
Now - SOME of those grievances are just and accurate.
And some are made up propaganda bullshit that created the feeling of violence either recklessly or on purpose.
 
Yeah, I don't believe I ever heard Joe or Kamala calling for trial by combat. Quite the opposite. The January 6 traitors were inspired by months of lies and incitements from Trump and all the Trump wanna-bes in the GOP.

I disagree. Allowing a sense of angry resentment at an injustice to just fester in silence is not conducive to healing the nation. And establishing a precedent that the losing presidential candidate is legally allowed to incite/endorse violence during the ensuing transition without consequence is an inherent threat to the democratic process. Do they not realize that such precedents could just as easily be used against them as for them?
 
How can anybody say the D.C. riots are over?

Last I heard plans were being made for more riots on inauguration day. Maybe Trump and his weinies have given up on terrorism. But I'm won't be convinced until the fat lady sings. According to the federal security agencies, the disaster on Wednesday was "unanticipated". Maybe a MAGA shooting during the inaugural address will also be described as unanticipated. Maybe Ted Cruz will post a fundraiser.

No, protests that turn into riots over injustices to black people are bad. Protests with a wee bit of understandable exuberance by white people over unfairness to Mr. Trump are good.

There is that. But there is much much more.

The Establishment has now put out calls for retribution against US Senators and Representatives who supported Trump’s attempt to have the evidence of electoral fraud examined. Nonpartisan professionals have found and reported evidence of electoral fraud is overwhelming. Yet it has been deep-sixed without ever being examined. In place of examination, from day one the presstitutes, none of whom looked at the evidence, repeated endlessly that there was no evidence. Trump, and not the stolen election, was blamed for discrediting American democracy.

The American Establishment is not through with Trump and his supporters. Propaganda campaigns against them could well end in show trials.

Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, like the print and TV media and NPR, are employed to shut down non-establishment explanations. Consequently, new social media organizations, such as Parler have arisen as uncensored forums. Judging from information sent to Mark Crispin Miller and posted on Notes from Underground ( https://markcrispinmiller.com ), Parler is now under attack: “BREAKING – Apple has given #Parler a 24 HOUR ULTIMATUM to implement a “moderation plan” or it’s getting scrubbed from the app store.” If this hasn’t yet happened, it will. “Moderation,” of course, means compliance with Establishment wishes. The world does not understand that the American Establishment has a propaganda organization that shames the one assembled by Joseph Goebbels. The American media, never very independent, lost all semblance to independence during the Clinton regime when 90% of the US media was concentrated into six hands and converted into a completely obedient tool of the Establishment. Anyone who doubts this should explain why on every issue the presstitutes speak with one voice, which is never the voice of the people.

"The Left"* never liked riots in the first place, even if it saw them as sometimes justified or just inevitable when civil order breaks down under the weight of systemic injustices and lack of public trust. But "The Left" does see several important differences between a street protest by angry poor people, and a motherfucking storming of the Capitol building at the behest of a sitting politician. There's a question of end goals, for instance.

*(I speak unilaterally for "The Left:, now; it's no more ridiculous than when you do it).
