Stand Your Ground has another victim

People that believe in democracy over dictatorship do not end with Mao.

I point out specific immorality and injustice rampant throughout capitalist institutions.

I say that democracy is preferable to dictatorship as the default position in all circumstances.

You say nonsense about Mao and defend dictatorship.

Capitalists love capitalism. They defend dictatorship.

Anarchists like things like democracy.

Mao is the result of going with charisma rather than skill. It's the direct result of too much democracy and Dunning-Kruger shows that the outcome is inevitable. The unskilled think they know a lot more about things than they really do.

Mao is the result of people thinking dictators are just great.

People like you.

Capitalists love capitalism. They defend dictatorship.

Anarchists love things like democracy and despise dictatorship.

No dictators like Mao arose from within the Spanish Anarchists.

You're just preaching.

How do you avoid the problem of people voting for the charismatic rather than the unpleasant truth?

You're living on another planet.

I want to replace dictatorship with democracy.

It is called advancing.

Finally;

Michael Drejka, 48, was arrested Monday morning in the fatal shooting in July of Markeis McGlockton in Clearwater, Florida -- an incident that was caught on video which sparked an uproar after its release. Drejka was booked at the Pinellas County Jail and bond was set at $100,000. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Tuesday, at which time a judge will review his bond status and decide whether to appoint an attorney for Drejka or if the defendant can afford to hire his own lawyer.

Bond seems a bit low.

Who knows what the law really is but it seems crazy to allow people to initiate confrontation and then start shooting when it gets too much for them to handle.

And even if convicted, SYG cost Florida another life.

Regardless of whether Drejka is convicted or cleared based on "Stand your ground" laws, this is a positive step.

When there is a body dead from violent deliberate actions of another person, serious charges should always be considered. The police are expected to be well versed in the law, but our system of justice designates judges and the courts as the arbiters of guilt. It isn't the police's place to clear a suspect of serious charges when there is any chance that the courts may disagree.

I am watching the 6-part documentary, "Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story". Part 2, which aired last week, reminded me about an important point that didn't get nearly enough attention then or since...

Buried in the SYG law (written by the NRA, btw) is language that allows shooters claiming SYG to sue police departments if they are arrested, and later found to have a legit SYG claim. In practice, it just makes police departments very leery of arresting anyone who immediately claims SYG.

There should obviously be a counterbalance to that part of the law such that when a person claims SYG but evidence is overwhelmingly to the contrary, as it is in this case, the person should be charged with giving false testimony or something much worse.

Wonder what those who have been defending Drejka will have to say about this:

Records show road rage, gun threats in stand your ground shooter’s past

Since 2012, according to records and interviews, 47-year-old Michael Drejka has been the accused aggressor in four incidents. Investigators documented three cases in police reports.

The other was not shared with authorities at the time but involved the same handicap-reserved parking spot outside the Circle A Food Store near Clearwater and another shooting threat.

Two involved allegations of Drejka showing a gun. In another, a trooper accused him of aggressive driving and cited him after a crash when Drejka braked hard in front of a woman driving with two children.

And on a different point... finally saw a photo of Drejka in the article about his arrest above... wtf was up with portraying this violent asshole as some kind of defenseless old man who stood no chance against McGlockton?

Even if Drejka goes to prison, so what? That stupid law is still on the books and it has caused a massive increase in what amounts to legalized lynchings.

The police reports describe a man (Drejka) quick to anger, but who always denied he threatened anyone with a gun. Former prosecutors said the earlier cases could possibly be used if Drejka is brought to trial, as evidence that he pulled out his weapon because he was frustrated, not afraid. Twice investigators admonished Drejka, telling him he was fortunate the alleged victims of his road rage did not want to press charges. If they had, an officer once said, authorities could have revoked his concealed carry permit.

Pity about that, may have saved McGlockton's life.

Wonder what those who have been defending Drejka will have to say about this:

The same thing they said about Zimmerman's history of violence and anger issues: not a damned thing.
Nah - they will say the victim had "purple drank" in his system, or burglar tools in his backpack when he was 10 or that he lived a "thug" lifestyle.

McGlockton is a black man which means no one without an rapid-firing weapon can stand a chance against him.
