Terrorists plotted attack on US power grid

One group member, a Texas native who was a Purdue University student at the time, allegedly sent the informant a text saying “leaving the power off would wake people up to the harsh reality of life by wreaking havoc across the nation.”

See, at least I understand the broad objective Islamist terrorism: they are trying to make people fear and persecute non-Islamist Muslims in order to recruit them to the Islamist cause.

This, on the other hand, makes no fucking sense. How does "wreaking havoc across the nation" strike a blow for fascism or white supremacism?

They want everything to crumble so that they can then step into the void and rule the ashes.

This is a plague in the modern world.

Partisans of whatever sort who'd rather see it all burn than accept compromises with people they consider the enemy.

From the BernieBros to BLM. From the Proud Boys to Senate Republicans. The list is kinda endless.

And the USA is burning. Political extremists are getting their wishes.

Lines going down are fixed rather easily. The US power grid is, however, vulnerable to attack. The success of the attacks is dependent obviously on the resources and manpower available to the attackers. The two most vulnerable parts of the system are the transmission towers and the transmission and distribution transformers. If they could knock down two or three towers in a row, including one end of a river or an interstate highway crossing span of cables, the damage would take months to repair. It would require either a gas or an arc plasma cutting torch and/or det cord and explosives.

Large transmission substation transformers are filled with mineral oil which is highly flammable. A combination of armor-piercing and tracer ammunition could pierce the transformer and set it afire from outside of the substation. The tracer and AR ammunition are legal with a fairly easy to get license thanks to our reverence for all things guns.

It's worse than that--most of the vital targets are completely unguarded. The only defenses are against casual trespass due to the danger.

If you really want to do harm go put shaped charges on top of a bunch of big transformers, all on timers.

Right-Wing Embrace Of Conspiracy Is 'Mass Radicalization,' Experts Warn

Traffic numbers for right-wing outlets and livestreams suggest the support extends well beyond the margins. Recent polls also signal the spread: One survey found that around 77% of Trump supporters believe that Joe Biden won the election as a result of fraud despite no evidence to support that claim.

At the online conference, participants characterized the shift as a mass radicalization. Neumann said the issue keeps her up at night worrying about where the country is heading. She talked about family members who've gone down the right-wing rabbit hole of disinformation. She said conversations with them require patience and negotiation, such as laying out her conditions for coronavirus safety protocols at family gatherings.

Neumann said it's hard to imagine what it would take to replicate those tough conversations on a national scale, given the power and reach of conservative media.

"I am wrestling with: How do I help people that have, unbeknownst to them, they've become radicalized in their thought? They hold views they didn't hold 10 years ago because all they listen to is that conservative infotainment," Neumann said. "Unless we help them break the deception, we cannot operate with 30% of the country holding the extreme views that they do."

Don't forget the end times zealots. They have infested some of the highest offices and positions of influence in this country and others.

Here's an example of what such zealots believe (in hide tags bc of size):
