I would have thought that the pre-war fascist paramilitaries would make for a closer comparison. Both the Italian and German paramilitaries were focused on fighting or terrorising socialists and Communists. As far as I know they didn't try to take down infrastructure or cause indiscriminate chaos. Although I suppose these deadshits could be delusional enough to believe that Ohio and southeastern US have become socialist.

I'm not sure that making sense is part of the plan.

I don't know any more than you do. But here's my guess. These people are mostly the heavily armed preppers. They've invested heavily in weapons, bunkers, generators, Spam, and such. At the moment, they look like idiots to almost everyone else.

But bringing down the grid would do more than just kill the lights and TV. It would be absolute social chaos. Suddenly, they'd be the smart ones who run everything. Just like the fantasies they've been creaming their jeans over for years.

My guess is they believe if enough trouble is caused, then the resulting chaos and possible riots would be too much for the government to handle. Then the facist groups would step in and 'restore order', most likely through threats and violence, and of course get rid of the undesirables as they go along. They seem to kind of ignore that the government doesn't disappear even if the situation gets completely out of their control, or that their militias would not likely be able to handle the national guard, let alone the actual military.

Seems like some kind of common delusion where if you give a guy a gun he thinks he is Rambo, when in reality they lean more towards Stormtrooper.

Well, white people are the biggest internal threat to national security right now, as you well know, Derec.

And non-white terrorists do not get away with terrorist acts in the U.S. That, and the fact that there are so very few of them compared to white terrorists, is why no one is all that concerned about brown people becoming a major internal threat to US national security like white supremacists are.

Yeah. This is an issue of them being stupid. They also likely lack the inability to even know how to cripple the American power grid. This is pretty much Militia Porn.

I'm certain our communications and electric grid could be crippled, but it would require strategic locations being targeted around the same time. A tree branch in Ohio did take down the entire power grid over a significant portion of the United States. But power was also returned in not too long... and we didn't fall into anarchy.

Lines going down are fixed rather easily. The US power grid is, however, vulnerable to attack. The success of the attacks is dependent obviously on the resources and manpower available to the attackers. The two most vulnerable parts of the system are the transmission towers and the transmission and distribution transformers. If they could knock down two or three towers in a row, including one end of a river or an interstate highway crossing span of cables, the damage would take months to repair. It would require either a gas or an arc plasma cutting torch and/or det cord and explosives.

Large transmission substation transformers are filled with mineral oil which is highly flammable. A combination of armor-piercing and tracer ammunition could pierce the transformer and set it afire from outside of the substation. The tracer and AR ammunition are legal with a fairly easy to get license thanks to our reverence for all things guns.
