WASHINGTON, Sept 17 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday signaled new action against left-wing groups following the assassination of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk, targeting the anti-fascist antifa movement as a "terrorist organization."
Trump said on Truth Social that he was "designating" the movement as a terrorist organization. "I will also be strongly recommending that those funding ANTIFA be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices," Trump wrote.

Sorry to reply to my post, but whatever.

Anyway, is this what will trigger mass arrests of American civilians? The heavy handed, unhelpful ICE deployment has a the thinnest of veneers with respect to law enforcement e.g. illegal immigrants are committing an illegal act just by being here.

This though... "Antifa" doesn't even exist as an organization. It's almost made up entirely. IIRC, some young people around 10 years ago wore black masks and carried signs that said Antifa, or at the most called themselves Antifa. Fox jumped on it and never let go, claiming it was this communist movement that presented an immediate and dire danger to the U.S. government.

Our intelligence organizations know that the nonexistent Antifa is indeed just that. One need not have Area 51 type clearance to gather this level of intelligence.

I wonder if this is going to be the inciting event that does indeed send Americans to internment camps.

I already believe that legitimate voting is a thing of the past, which may be paranoid, but I don't think it is. IMO, the beginning of the end began when we went to Iraq under Dubbya/Cheney. They lied about everything and still won reelection when it was well known they were lying. It showed them what they could get away with.

Anyway, this may be the culmination of events that ends democracy in the U.S.

A few ways to view this.

A) ANTIFA doesn't exist. It is a label, not an organization. It isSo it is at a defendant's detriment to prove they aren't a member of a group that isn't real. It isn't like al Qaeda or ISIS or Hamas. There is no leadership or literally any organization. The trouble here is that the Trump Admin can say anything. You give a ride to someone to a protest, and you helped incite a riot.

B) ANTIFA isn't an organization, so this is just red meat for the base. Without an actual group, there is no one to target.

C) The issue is legal, it is declarative. Is this like McCarthy and the communists. Trump has led most of this term merely by declaration. Not using powers he has, influencing not through the courts, but declaration. Trump doesn't need to put someone in jail to minimize their voice. He already took two people off the air without doing anything but tweeting or having his FCC goon go on a podcast. Trump implies he is having the DoJ look into *insert moderate or left-winger* for potential financial relationship with ANTIFA. This can make corporations who are scared as fuck of Trump (or in bed with) to terminate agreements, relationships, contracts, etc...

I lean towards C. The danger here is in how this Administration abuses this declaration. I'm sure our Libertarians will be here to... just kidding, this is apparently their wet dream.

“Jimmy Kimmel was cancelled for saying this: "We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA [Make America Great Again] gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,"
What he said is true. Next, they're going to cancel my psych license for saying that America is now an authoritarian-governed state with state-controlled media and censorship. God help America! 😡😡😡

Yes, free speech is under assault, Bomb20’s missives notwithstanding.

Reminds me of this Cold War joke:

It's a quiet morning, just before dawn, at Checkpoint Charlie, the guard station on the West Berlin side of the infamous wall. The American guards are drinking coffee and relaxing, when suddenly they hear an ruckus from the East German side of the border.

A megaphone orders someone to "HALT!" and alarms start to ring; The searchlights in the guard towers light up, and swing around to spotlight a rabbit, who has jumped the first fence, and is now fleeing towards the main wall, swerving to evade the machine gun fire. The rabbit crawls under a roll of barbed wire, dashes across a minefield, narrowly avoiding death from an exploding landmine. He scrambles over the wall using an improvised ladder, and races across the killing ground, pursued by bullet strikes that gouge holes in the roadway, before finally making it to safety - collapsing, exhausted, scratched, and bleeding, on the West Berlin side of the line.

The Americans hurry to his assistance, and the duty officer has him taken to the first aid room. While the nurse is tending to his wounds, he asks "What made you decide to risk everything, to escape from East Germany in such a reckless way?"

The rabbit replies "I heard this morning that foxes are to be outlawed by the Communist government".

The officer is baffled by this. "Surely you should be happy at that news; You are, after all, a rabbit, and not a fox".

"Well, yes I am", says the rabbit, with a manic gleam in his eye, "but can I prove it??"

They’re already playing that game with the ICE shenanigans. Good luck proving you are legally here if they come after you.
