It's pretty obvious now that Trump wants to be a Putin, and to install an oligarchy of obsequious supporters like Jimmy Jordan and Lindsey "Windsock" Graham. I'd love to know what he offered them in his new world order. But considering the Republican witness list that was submitted, it's pretty clear that they intend to go to bat for the insane "theory" that Russia didn't hack the US in 2016, Ukraine did, and Trump and his mob of morons are heroes for uncovering the truth while 17 US intelligence agencies were 100% fooled. If people swallow that readily enough, the next corollary to emerge will be that Ukraine should be given back to Russia.

Russia is the ally of Iran and China, the former of whom is under constant threat by American forces for not honoring a nuclear treaty Trump backed out of, and the latter of which Trump is engaged in a historic trade war with. You have not noticed Russia's ambition to reconstitute the Soviet Union?
China can do (and is doing) very well on its own with no help from US shenanigans (they're not stupid enough to put a lot of eggs in that basket), and Iran would have been content to keep fomenting terrorism in the background, had not Trump put them center stage.
But Russia? A third-rate economy with few resources other than fossil fuels, could not even afford to invade Ukraine without help from the Republicans. But now the sky's the limit!

Don't feign stupidity PH - Putin the ex-KGB agent knows he cannot exactly re-constitute the USSR. Putin is a visionary, and wants to re-capture the glory of the USSR in its heyday, when Russia was one of only 2-3 "super-powers". And that can't be done by marching into all the previously Soviet States. Yeah, he managed to physically grab the most valuable part of Ukraine (Crimea) and can continue to nibble away at that border, but longer term efforts will consist more of insinuating himself into a position of influence over "foreign" countries as he has so masterfully done in Syria, using Trump and Bashar as his useful idiots. Putin could possibly make physical a play for the Baltics, but that's unlikely until and unless he is able to dismantle NATO and the EU totally falls apart and his influence campaigns find some kind of resistance that renders them ineffective.

And just so we're clear, your position is that Putin, the guy who was holed up, hiding from protesters in the Dresden headquarters of the KGB a few weeks after the Berlin Wall came down, and was getting no direction from Moscow, now has no ambitions to harm the USA and EU to enhance Russia's global influence?
