The Race For 2024

Regarding Iowa, one should remember that Trump won the 2020 caucuses with 97%. Of course, nobody ran against him then, but it appears that a substantial number of Republicans have become disaffected from him. There is still a good possibility that Iowa will vote for Biden in the general election, especially if a portion of Republicans don't show up to vote, vote third party, or switch over to vote for Biden.

Personally, I think that Trump will try to recruit Nikki Haley for his VP running mate. After he won Iowa, he praised both DeSantis and Haley, knowing that he needed to do something about the large numbers that voted against him in the Iowa caucuses.

Ryan Binkley is still in the race, however.

Binkley stays in the GOP race, heads to New Hampshire, South Carolina
Texas businessman and pastor Ryan Binkley said Monday night, "I'm still standing," quoting the Elton John song playing at his post-Iowa Caucuses event in Des Moines.

Binkley is staying in the GOP presidential primary race. "We're still running and fighting for our country," he told a small crowd of about 30 supporters in downtown Des Moines.

Binkley said he will go on to the primaries in New Hampshire and South Carolina.

Trump Promises Vivek An Administration Position Running The White House 7-Eleven | Babylon Bee

Ramaswamy quickly began training for the position, watching official 7-Eleven franchisee training videos on how to fix the Slurpee machine and offer fast service ringing up Big Gulps.

"Technically, I'm really very overqualified for this," Ramaswamy told reporters. "And I'm a little suspicious as to why Trump chose me for this position over some of the other candidates. But I'll take what I can get at this point."

When questioned, Trump was horrified at the accusations that any kind of racial stereotyping played into his selection of Ramaswamy. "I wanted to offer the job to DeSantis, frankly, but he's too short to see over the little hot dog display."

Babylon Bee slammed for Vivek Ramaswamy 'White House 7-Eleven' post - New York Post
Seth Dillon, the CEO of the Babylon Bee, posted a tongue-in-cheek response to the backlash on Wednesday, writing: “Some of our readers have expressed concern about this report, suggesting it did not meet the high journalistic standards they’ve come to expect from us.”

“We want you to know that we’ve listened to you,” Dillon continued, adding: “We’ve heard your voices. And they are stupid.”

Vivek Ramaswamy reacts to ‘racist’ parody piece on Trump's 7-Eleven offer - Hindustan Times
One commentator said: “Racist yes but also I think outdated … isn’t a more contemporary stereotype of an Indian guy that he’d be a tech executive?”

Another said: “I like the Bee, but this was kind of in poor taste.”

A third added: “This is disgusting & despicable. Shame on you @TheBabylonBee. . This is racist and this is America, we Republicans respect all. Stop your Hinduphobia right now. Trump supports @VivekGRamaswamy. I'm asking my followers to please tell @TheBabylonBee stop your racist, be American.”

Another added: “I don’t find this joke racist, just unoriginal and lazy. It is hilarious though seeing conservatives in the replies getting their panties in a twist over it. What happened to no subject being off limits to joke about?”

Babylon Bee Says Ramaswamy Will Run White House 7-Eleven - The Daily Dot
Right-wing media personality Matt Walsh took a particular interest in defending the Babylon Bee.

“Check the comments to see ‘conservatives’ actually offended by this joke. Absolutely pathetic,” he said. “I guarantee @VivekGRamaswamy is not in the slightest bit offended. You guys really dont need to be his white knight to protect him from Babylon Bee headlines. He’ll be okay. I promise.”

Those opposed to the joke pushed back on Walsh by further arguing that the joke was “low and not funny.” In response, Walsh doubled down on his defense of the satirical outlet.

“Yes you’re allowed to have an opinion. And if your opinion is that this very tame joke is ‘low,’ your opinion is stupid,” Walsh replied. “Fortunately for you, yes, you are allowed to have stupid opinions on the internet. Those are the most common types here, in fact.”

Ron DeCeased … campaign ‘suspended’ (euthanized) to the great surprise of NOBODY.

Another one bites the dust.

Ron DeSantis Drops Out of 2024 Presidential Race and Endorses Trump - The New York Times - "The Florida governor, who once appeared to be Donald Trump’s most daunting challenger, ran a costly, turbulent campaign that failed to catch on with Republican voters."
“I am today suspending my campaign,” Mr. DeSantis said in a video posted after The New York Times reported he was expected to leave the race. He added: “Trump is superior to the current incumbent, Joe Biden. That is clear. I signed a pledge to support the Republican nominee, and I will honor that pledge. He has my endorsement because we can’t go back to the old Republican guard of yesteryear.”

...
After announcing his run for president in May, Mr. DeSantis’s campaign proved a costly flop, spending tens of millions of dollars in concert with well-funded outside groups to little apparent effect.
In the middle of last year, he was only 15% behind Donald Trump in the polls, and he seemed like a likely contender.
Constant mockery from Mr. Trump — about everything from Mr. DeSantis’s facial expressions to his choice of footwear — degraded his image as a confident conservative warrior. Over the course of the campaign, Mr. DeSantis’s national poll numbers fell by roughly half, a seeming indictment of both his skills as a candidate and his strategy of trying to run to Mr. Trump’s right. A vaunted ground game paid for by his super PAC, Never Back Down, hardly seemed to make a dent in the race.

At points, it felt as if Mr. DeSantis was careening from one embarrassment to the next, as his campaign dealt with setbacks like mass layoffs and the fallout from producing a social media video that featured a Nazi symbol.
Then Iowa, where he barely beat Nikki Haley. In New Hampshire, the polls show him around 6% with NH 35% and DT 50%.
Chaos marked the last days of his campaign, just as it had the first, when he kicked off his campaign with a widely mocked and technically marred livestream event on Twitter. Over the weekend, Mr. DeSantis’s schedule was in constant flux, as he flew between New Hampshire and South Carolina with little notice, postponing events and finally canceling his appearances on the Sunday morning political shows.
Two days ago, DeSantis Quietly Starts Building His Off-Ramp From 2024 Race - The New York Times - "Mr. DeSantis praised Donald J. Trump’s victory in Iowa. He admitted to an early strategic error. And he’s begun casting his eyes forward to 2028."
Both Mr. DeSantis and his allies seemed to be running perilously low on money. No pro-DeSantis ad had run on New Hampshire television since before Thanksgiving.
