My coworkers just repeated the claim that it's the liberals who are obsessed with sex.
That strikes me as odd.
I mean, I haven't seen any coworker's genitals since I retired from the military. And even then, it was mostly very specific conditions of shared living spaces that reduced privacy.
Anyway, if someone presents themselves as male or female, I take their word for it.
If someone outranks me, I do not assume or spread gossip about them having to have slept their way to the top of the middle. Either they're competent at their job or they're not. I DO tend to think that the women in our organization do not have a lot of experience with submarine operations, but that's more of an observation than an accusation.
The person who changed my oil at Jiffy Lube last week? I have no real idea if that person in the coveralls was male or female. I didn't care. I was impressed with the way they responded to a fire that broke out next door, but still didn't care.
On the other hand, my coworkers spend a LOT of time and energy on sex. They are very interested in what's inside a person's pants. And with respect to bathrooms, prisons, military service, child care, and a raft of other topics, they even care about what USED to be in a person's pants.
They will spend quite a bit of time explaining their standards for how to determine the sex of a person (current plumbing or DNA or birth certificate or whatever)...
And just about every story on Military.com about problems in the fleet, you can expect to see a whole bunch of commenters talking about how they should get gays, women, and transgenders off of the ships. No matter what the problem is, it is, in the mind of many veterans, important to purify the fleet, based on what's in their pants, what used to be in their pants, what will some day be in their pants, and what they want to do with what's in their pants.
