I have never found the political scene as astonishing as I do today - there must be many lessons to learn from the present chaos.
One thing that strikes me, and it shows up on this forum as well as in the news media, is that people who obviously have the intelligence to put together well-crafted sentences, can still, whether intentionally or not, use those sentences to construct a ridiculous argument -- apparently believing their audience will find it credible.
Words are in danger of being drained of their meaning. Often the media talk of terrorism when describing what is actually retaliation. The former makes us victims, the latter shows the way forward, thus empowering us.
I am very grateful to have enjoyed the friendship of many Americans, and I've worked for American clients in England, all of whom were a delight to work for.
Without that experience I would have a different view of America, as a place where the 'values' promulgated by Mr Trump predominated.
My own view, (and it's by no means uncommon here) is that the American president can do as he likes, as long as he does what he's told.
If he is just a figurehead, I'm wondering what the rest of the ship looks like.
