The Post reported that the email was found in a cache of data extracted from the external hard drive of the laptop computer that purportedly belonged to Hunter Biden. The Post reported that the owner of the repair shop had made a copy of the external hard drive before it was seized by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and that the copy was later provided to the Post by Donald Trump's personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani. The subpoena to seize the laptop was issued by a grand jury on behalf of the U.S. attorney's office in Wilmington, which was later reported to have been investigating Hunter Biden about lobbying and financial matters since at least 2018.[1][12]

There seems to be a lot of copies of the hard disk floating around, some of which differ from supposedly "clean" copis from the repair shop. Lots of added files and directories.

I am now utterly confused by differing stories as to who had the hard disk when.

Very early on, Steve Bannon and his friend Guo Wingui got ahold of the Laptop copies of the hard disk and started a campign to hurt Biden's re-election chances. This mainly seemed to involve spreading around the sex and drug stuff. Laden with lies.

This is such a lame attempt at smearing President Biden. Frankly, if I were in the GOP, I'd be really worried about going after the family of the President, especially given their past leader.

It didn't stop them from going after the Hillary e-mails and, arguably, using them to put their favored turd on the golden throne for four years. That case was even less grounded in reality, but they're happy to drop millions of taxpayer dollars on a scandal no matter how flimsy the grounds. Just seeing various permutations of "Biden = corrupt" in the newspapers every morning for three years will start to make it "feel" true for a lot of American voters come ballot time, no matter what any courtroom might decide. This is a public relations game, not an earnest search for truth.

According to one of the articles I read yesterday, they are still planning on investigating Hillary's emails.WTF is wrong with these people? They don't care about the Trump kids, who were actually part of the administration and Ivanka did sleazy deals to promote her little fashion industry with China and what about Jared and Saudi Arabia! No. Nothing to see there, but Hunter Biden's laptop is the most important scandal ever to hit the US! Oh the horror!

The few things I heard of being leaked from supposedly Hunter’s laptop, or other stuff associated with him:

pics of Hunter naked
pics of Hun doing drugs
email discussing business deals, where he said he didn’t think his dad would do anything to help him
and message from his dad expressing sympathy and desire to help his son with his drug addiction

so yea, assuming the stuff they have is real, and that is the worst of it, then they are trying to discover if there is something even less substantial than a nothingburger.

Before I begin to care about what is on that laptop,
somebody's going to have to give me a credible explanation for why a rich guy would leave a laptop full of sensitive information with a political enemy.

Much less abandon the laptop there.

If you saw the video clips Hunter recklessly made of himself with hookers and buying drugs, you would have no problem believing him forgetting to pick up his laptop. In an interview, he claims to not even know for sure it was his, but forensics established that it was. He even claimed he smoked parmesan cheese, thinking it was cocaine! The guy, at least at one time, was a total train wreck.

I doubt that Beav is going to offer up serious reasons for concern, but if he did I’d certainly consider them. As the “black sheep” of my own family, I am hesitant to conclude that having one in one’s family is a condemnation of any sort against other family members.

Thanks I appreciate that. As I said once before, you are an exemplary example of how people should behave on this forum. That said, I'm really just answering Tom's question, in an albeit, rather direct manner. I don't have much opinion at this point whether there's any "there" there, but a few questionable things have come out of it. Perhaps its something, perhaps nothing. I don't know. I'm not trying to convince you or anyone that you should or should not care about it.

Or maybe more about asking why the only stuff found on the "laptop" is drug, sex related and that after 2 plus years, the right-wing media hasn't spilled anything of any damning consequence regarding business dealings... just some emails, of which don't even suggest anything significant, especially related to the person who is actually a President at the moment. No spreadsheets, no financial documents, no meeting minutes, just embarrassing JPGs, videos depicting illicit behavior.

Is children of famous people doing drugs really going to be a Watergate thing now? Or is this performance art with the poetic using of a red herring to attack a black sheep?

Easy answer: You shouldn't care about it. The laptop is the next Hillary Emails/Bengaziiii/Whitewater non-event that the republicans are trying to market as the greatest scandal to hit the country ever. Well it was the claim of the shop owner that the guy identified himself as Hunter, no idea if it was actually him as I recall in the earliest reporting Hunter didn't even live in that state. As for not being a political enemy, he turned over a copy of the hard drive to lawyers working for Giuliani. He apparently also believes in some right-wing conspiracy theories. Business Insider article listing some of the red flags with the story. So I would say at the least the guy is not politically neutral, or friendly.
