I salute this lady.

When Elizabeth Holtzman was in Congress, she helped write the Refugee Act, which has guided the U.S.'s principles on the issue for nearly four decades.

In more recent years, she's been serving on the Homeland Security Advisory Council, a bipartisan team of experts that advises presidential administrations. That council includes a committee which, in 2016, called for the end of for-profit immigration detention facilities — an issue front and center in Trump's support of family separation policies.
Holtzman is a Democrat, but she's a stateswoman first and foremost. She's joined four other council members who are resigning in protest of Trump's immigration policies, and her powerful resignation letter is a must-read....

Yeah, but refugees aren't originally from here, so they don't belong here! They're criminals and we should put their children in cages like dogs!

Our ancestors stole this land from those dirty injuns fair and square, and we'll be damned if we let anny o' them thar durty fureynurs in!

Also, mah ancesturs was legul immigrants 'cause they paid tens of thousands in legal fees and filed forms in triplicate before committing repeated acts of genocide aginst them durty injuns! I'm sorry about the long-winded closing tag. I just want to make sure that when I collectively refer to both conservatives and libertarians, I say it in the most politically correct way possible to avoid offending anyone or hurting their feelings. I know how fragile some people can be and I'm trying really hard to not be mean. I wouldn't want to offend anyone.

It is all a political show.

These people are being harmed so Trump can please his sadistic base.

It has nothing to do with security or danger or any real problem.

I have a minor objection to inclusion Soviet Union Jews as some refugees which were persecuted.

They were not allowed to practice their religion.
They were, to the same extent as regular (some denominations were banned) Christians and Muslims. But that's not really relevant cause they were pretty much all atheists or non-religious. Some were Christians

Are you ten years old?

They claimed religious persecution and some US court agreed so they were given special status.

And yes it was all just a way to embarrass the Soviets and please US Jews.

It is called politics.

Just like this stupidity with immigrants now.

No

First, they can claim whatever they want. But the ones which went to US were certainly non religious
And yes it was all just a way to embarrass the Soviets and please US Jews.
Yes, agree here.

So what is your problem with it again?

It was nothing but US crazy politics as usual.

Welcome to the real world.

Not necessarily persecuted by the state.
Antisemitism was/is very strong in russia.
Not in Russia and not very strong, In Soviet Republics other than Russia. Specifically Ukraine and beloved Baltic States. And yes, State had nothing to do with it, nothing at all. It was just regular folk jew hating but nothing serious, thanks to KGB&Co. Again, not in Russia.

That's not really a just russian word, and none of the pogroms happened in Russia, jews were not allowed to move to Russia :)
Russian Empire got a chunk of Polish Empire along with their jews , ordinary folk (ukrainian, belarussian, litvinian, etc) and pogroms. There were no jews in Russia before that.
These folk hated jews before and they hated them after they became part of Russian Empire.
