It's what is in the Quran that's a problem. That not many Muslims actually practice what they are told to do in their holy book is a credit to them. It is the Quran that needs a reformation, expunging the verses that not only encourage violence toward non believers, but order it.
One could say the same about the Bible, especially the old Testament. It's a credit to Jews that they don't actually practice most of what they're told to do in their holy book. In fact, most people I've met don't practice most of what's in their holy books, in fact, most don't even know what's in their holy books. Being of a certain religion is not simply following what a book says. The book is usually secondary to their actual behaviors, even if it's given lip service as the basis for their religion.
