Threats to prevent Russian athletes from competing.

I know it's hard for you to understand but it's a matter of fact that denazification operation is supported by 70% of the population in Russia. The rest 30% have property abroad or simply pacifists in general. There is virtually zero support for Ukrainian regime in Russia.
You are being misinformed by MSM.

Most Germans supported Hitler and the Nazis. That did not make Hitler admirable.

The International Olympic Committee has announced last month that it was exploring a way to allow Russian and Belarusian competitors to compete in the Olympic games under a neutral flag. I've changed my mind on this. But I just think that it's so anti-Olympic ideals to allow countries to compete in a friendly competition while their nation is killing people.

I mean tell me who wants to see this fucker standing next to Ukranian athletes who have lost their home and family members to this war?

Seems like if he is fit, and pro-war, he should be in camo on the front line, yah? I wonder if the Russians consider him - any of the athletes - to be unpatriotic for refusing to enlist?

Would have the U.S. or France or Britain allowed German or Japanese athletes to compete in olympic games in 1942? Hell fucking no! If the IOC allows Russian or Belorussian athletes to compete they need their heads examined. If they do the U.S. ought to boycott the games. Tell the athletes to go back to Putin and pound fucking salt!

I'm conflicted, myself.
Part of the problem is my complete lack of interest in pro sports. If the Olympics, World Cup, and Superbowl, all disappeared I wouldn't notice.
Until someone started bitching about it for some reason.

On the one hand, I like the possibility of of a global event that transcends pettiness.

On the other, pretending that the competitors from a viciously predatory country should be included, like everyone else, doesn't seem right either.

I dunno.

My inclination is to boycott France in 2024, if the Russian team is coming. But that's easy for me to say, having no interest in going to France much less when swamped with tourists going to the Olympics.

Let France sort it out.

1942 wasn't an olympic year, so nobody would have competed that year under any circumstances.

The 1940 olympics were taken from Tokyo by the IOC and given to Helsinki, as a result of the Japanese invasion of China; However as the war had progressed to include the European theatre by that time, they were eventually cancelled altogether. By 1940, pretty much everyone was at war except a handful of fascist sympathiser states who were trying to stay out of it by declaring their neutrality, such as Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, and the USA.

The 1944 olympics were scheduled for London, but it seems unlikely that the German contingent would have been welcome had these games gone ahead. ;)

It occurs to me to point out something else.

Making a distinction between Putin, Russia, and an individual russian.
Not the same thing, at all.
