Trump Supporters Split on COVID-19

Don't forget that GW Bush's popularity skyrocketed after 9-11, even though he had ignored warnings about Bin Laden before then. This is Trump's 9-11 opportunity. He needs to improve his teleprompter-reading skills, but he isn't speaking to the most brilliant audience in the world. They tend to ignore the signs when he slurs his words, and they are going to be matching him up against someone who is even older than him. It's a challenge for Trump, but incumbents don't usually have to work that hard to impress voters.

Judging by the headlines this morning, he's lost patience. He's more concerned about the economy than the population. No surprise there...

This is pretty standard stuff. Even JFK, once he realized that Vietnam was a no-win situation, was more concerned with his reelection chances that just getting the US out of that quagmire. He said that if he just left, stating that we should not be involved in a Civil War elsewhere, he would not get reelected. The Orange Buffoon is no different, except much, much, much greedier.

Politicians are primarily interested in public opinion because it preserves their power. It's a problem for certain.

Anybody home, Jimmy? His numbers are UP, remember?

Why do we need thousands of Americans to die, again, before people realize the GOP is awful?

Reminds me of Winston Churchill's comment that America always does the right thing - after trying everything else.

They'll come around - after enough people die.

[PedanticCorrection]There is no evidence that Churchill said anything like this, and there are several versions of it. The most popular one is "Americans Will Always Do the Right Thing — After Exhausting All the Alternatives", and the first person on record to say something like it was Abba Eban in 1967 during a UN speech. He attributed it to "nations" rather than "Americans". It later got attributed to Americans. (See Americans Will Always Do the Right Thing — After Exhausting All the Alternatives)[/PedanticCorrection]

Where in the hell are people getting this whole ‘thousands’ isn’t a big deal? People good with plane crashes now too because many more people die in car crashes?

We wouldn't be cratering the world's economy over thousands, especially as if it were only thousands it would be like the flu--pretty much only finishing off those who weren't long for this world anyway.

During this pandemic crisis. I specifically said during this pandemic crisis.

I have not heard anyone call it racist, but I have heard some medical professionals say that the travel ban isn't going to make any difference because the virus is now rampant in the community. Still, whether or not it's helpful, most countries are currently closing their borders. I guess the fear is that no Western country seems able to care for its own citizens, so why allow more people into the country during a time when healthcare systems are totally inadequate to care for their own. That's not just an American problem.

The thing that has been called racist, is Trump's use of the term, "Chinese virus", instead of calling it by its name.

Just look at the genetics--most cases in the US stem from one that came over long before any travel ban was imposed.

He declared a national emergency!

That reminds me... what happened to the National Emergency he declared so he could steal money from the military for his Vanity Wall? I don't remember him declaring an end to that one yet. How many simultaneous National Emergencies is a President allowed to declare? Will this National Emergency and that National Emergency be over before the start of the new National Emergency needed to cancel the November elections?

Actually there are quite a few if memory serves, plenty are still on going, from previous admins, I think.

So many that we should declare a National Emergency to get rid of them?

Anyhow it looks now like Trump has realized that hundreds of thousands are going to die because of his failure to act, so he's sold the republican party on the idea that taking no action and providing no leadership was the best idea anyone ever had, and letting hundreds of thousands of people die is good for the economy.
Brit Hume and Dan Patrick are all for it, and whipping the trumpsuckers up into a frenzy of patriotic volunteerism.

Well, if they want to volunteer for the new Trump Eugenics Program (soon to be airing nightly), nobody is stopping them. Maybe they can even get speaking parts in their cameos. That doesn't mean they should be allowed to volunteer others as extras!
There WILL be some riveting reality show video coming out for The Program though - bodies piling up outside hospital doors, people writhing in pain and dying right there on live TV. Yes, the Trump Eugenics Program is going to get great ratings. The best ratings ever. Nobody has ever gotten ratings so good.
