Trump VS COVID-19 Threat

Definitely agreed. There are a couple different things. If you shutdown things and wait long enough, that will be the minimally required time to pause in order to gets things and restart. Think of it like a computer network at work. There is a virus. You quickly turn off the server. You take all the time needed to clean the server and then the workstations before turning things back on. You don't clean the server and turn everything back on, just for that other infected computer to foul up the entire network again. It'll take LONGER to fix it twice.

Then there is the economic portion where what hurts the economy are laid off people. That is where the Government is supposed to step in and do some Superman like lifting to prevent the layoffs. That didn't happen though. So the US will need to wait for those people to get employed in order for the economy to get out of a recession.

The mitigation cure is better than the disease, according to a new study, as to health and the economy.

New Fed study finds efforts to slow pandemic dont depress the economy - MarketWatch

Far from hurting the economy, what are called nonpharmaceutical interventions — for example, shutting schools, establishing quarantines and restricting business hours — mitigate economic harm as well as reduce mortality, the researchers determined.

With global supply chains and Just-in-time manufacturing, if President Velveeta screws this up enough and prolongs the contagion in the US, other nations (China) may be looked to to fill in holes in these supply chains. This is manufacturing we may not get back.

Trump uses Defense Production Act to require GM to make ventilators | TheHill
President Trump on Friday used the Defense Production Act to compel General Motors to produce ventilators to combat the coronavirus after days of hesitating to use the powers in the law.

The president in a statement said the federal government had abandoned negotiations with the automaker on ventilator production, complaining that the automaker was "wasting time."

Trump signs $2T coronavirus relief package | TheHill
President Trump on Friday signed a bipartisan $2 trillion economic relief package aimed at helping American workers and businesses impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

The bill includes $1,200 one-time payments to many Americans; sets up a $500 billion corporate liquidity fund to help struggling industries like airlines; allocated $377 billion for aid to small businesses; and boosts the maximum unemployment benefit by $600 per week for four months, among other provisions.

Pelosi not invited by Trump to White House coronavirus relief bill's signing | TheHill
President Trump on Friday declined to invite Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other Democrats to the White House ceremony where he signed the historic $2 trillion coronavirus rescue package passed earlier in the day by the House, aides said.

That's VERY petty. He's acting like a big baby. Like his only willing to help governors who were nice to him.

BREAKING: Trump Says That Due to the Democratic Governors of Washington (3,369 Coronavirus Cases) and Michigan (3,657 Cases)—the Latter of Whom He Calls "the Woman in Michigan"—Not Being "Appreciative" Enough of Him, He Has Told the Coronavirus Task Force Head "Not to Call Them"

PS/ I know we don't get shocked about anything anymore, but there are over 250 US dead in Washington and Michigan—a number that's rapidly climbing—and here's the President of the United States openly saying he wants to shut down communications with them because they insulted him.

PS2/ Washington and Michigan are two of the *five biggest coronavirus hotspots* in the US—see chart below, from Worldometers—and Trump is *admitting* that the federal response is *dependent in part* on how much "appreciation" the governor of a state shows to him. READ THAT TWICE.

PS3/ Trump made clear the governors of New York (Cuomo), New Jersey (Murphy), and California (Newsom) are sufficiently appreciative that he's willing to call them or have the Coronavirus Task Force head call them. But with Michigan and Washington, he doesn't want calls to happen.

I've also seen some pictures of the signing ceremony. Not much social distancing -- Trump's guests were crowded near his desk.

Whitmer: Feds told vendors not to send medical supplies to Michigan

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer suggested Friday that a growing rift with the White House is affecting shipments of medical supplies to Michigan amid exponential growth in confirmed coronavirus cases.

"When the federal government told us that we needed to go it ourselves, we started procuring every item we could get our hands on," Whitmer said Friday on WWJ 950AM. "What I've gotten back is that vendors with whom we had contracts are now being told not to send stuff here to Michigan. It's really concerning."

Whitmer didn't say who has told vendors to stop sending medical supplies to the state, but strongly implied the order came from President Donald Trump's administration.

In a Friday afternoon appearance on CNN, Whitmer did not back away from her earlier claim.

Governors, networks, voters...
It struck me, today, that Trump is not my President.
I know, eight years of The Black Man in the White House, many people expressed the view that Barack HUSSEIN Obama wasn't theirs, and refused to acknowledge the Kenyan Muslim Socialist, but this us different.
And they take glee in, now, asserting that even after impeachment, the Orange Shitgibbon 'is still president!' But he's not. Not mine. And that's his choice, not my disaffection.

Trump only chooses to BE president for those people he's gonna get something from. Cash, votes, adulation, complinents.

People in blue states, or those run by governors/represented by congresspeople he's feuding with can fuck off and literally die, and anyone asking for those saps to get medical supplies needs to suck his dick.

Sure, every president my entire life has had and pushed an agenda, but up to now, i kinda assumed if the aliens invaded my state, whatever stste that was, we'd see troops mobilized. Now, i'd worry Bonespurs would check his standings in the polls there before committing...

Keith, Trump was being interviewed on Fox News by Hannity and he said, "Cuomo and De Blasio of NY are begging me for 30,000 ventilators. Hospitals usually only have 1 ventilator! And they want 30,000 like it's nothing! This is outrageous! They cost more than a car and they act like I can do it like it's nothing!" Hannity agreed they were delusional.

yeah, the thirty thousand is part of a worst-case estimate.
And they want 30,000 like it's nothing!
we're in an epidemic that attacks the respiratory system. Thry want thousands of ventilators to save thousands of lives.
This is outrageous!
it is outrageous thast a game show host is pretending to be an expert in hospital thresst assessment, yes.

no. They're responsible for human lives ad thry're advocating for those lives by trying to prepare for the coming crunch.

Trump, however, is being selective. He's assessing the needs of the nation by the dollar cost to his administration.

Now, want to actually address my point, he asked knowing the answer was a big fat no.

We're kicking some butt now, folks!

Charles Koch Network Attacks Shelter-in-Place Policies
AMERICANS FOR PROSPERITY, the pro-corporate pressure group founded and funded by billionaire industrialist Charles Koch, wants employees to return to work despite desperate pleas from public health officials that people should stay home as much as possible to help contain the spread of the coronavirus.

As states began to order nonessential businesses to shut down last week, AFP released a statement calling for all businesses to remain open.

...
Whitmer’s order, variations of which are being implemented by state and local governments nationwide, contains exceptions for critical industries such as grocery stores, pharmacies, health care providers, financial services, transportation, child care, hazardous materials, and energy.

...
AFP’s position, which directly contradicts the advice of medical experts who say that social isolation is essential to curbing the spread of the coronavirus, comes after the group lobbied the Trump administration in 2018 to rescind $1 billion from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
So protecting people from dangerous diseases is "wasteful government spending"? Looking at Charles Koch, I marvel at how willing he is to risk his life to the COVID-19 virus.
Experts around the country have called for shelter-in-place policies for nonessential businesses, arguing that social isolation can drastically curb the spread of the coronavirus. Slowing the pandemic, they say, can save lives by lowering the demand for medical supplies and limited hospital beds. Despite their medical necessity, these policies are being rejected by conservatives around the country. Republican state leaders, including Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, have balked at shutdown requests. On Tuesday, Reeves signed an executive order superseding local bans on public gatherings
But look at what Koch's activists are doing:
The Koch network, while pushing for businesses to stay open, is taking the opposite approach for its lobbying apparatus. AFP and its affiliates, including LIBRE Initiative and Concerned Veterans for America, are now working from home. “Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the health and safety of our activists, staff, and voters, our staff are working from home and are utilizing digital organizing as one way to continue their grassroots engagement,” a spokesperson from AFP told CNBC.

You assume US and China compete in supply chain, they don't.

The economy shouldn’t be closed forever. No one is saying close it forever. But it needs to be partially closed for a couple months. Or it will need to be closed for much longer!
It should be closed as much as possible in order to change exponential growth to exponential drop and stay closed until we all clear of the virus. Alternative is to let everybody get infected and some to die.

For someone who likes to harp on about the virtues of facts, you seem to be allergic to them. Here's a fun fact. Donald Trump took funding from veteran’s housing, schools, and even hospitals to channel billions into his wall. What Trump took from unallocated Department of Defense funds just when he declared a national emergency in 2018 would be enough to buy over 1.2 million ventilators.

Corovanirus update: Delta, United warn prolonged travel slump could force more cuts
  • United and Delta say they will not furlough or cut the pay of U.S. workers through Sept. 30, as outlined in a government aid package.

He also said this on 3/25, when that day ended with about 68k cases:

This quarantine will work. I guarantee it. April 12 we will be up and running. The cases are going to start declining in the U.S. starting around the next few days. By April 1, we will see a steady downstream and be on our way out.
And like you showed Elixir, this morning (a few days later) is a about 104k.
