Trump VS COVID-19 Threat

The governor calls the senator's state a welfare-queen state:
Andrew Cuomo Obliterates Mitch McConnell At Press Conference
Let me just go back to my self-proclaimed grip reaper Senator Mcconnell for another he represents the state of Kentucky, okay. When it comes to fairness, new York state puts much more money into the federal pot than it takes out. At the end of the year, we put into that federal pot $116 billion more than we take out.

His state, the state of Kentucky, takes out $148 billion more than they put in. So he’s a federal legislator. He is distributing the federal pot of money. New York puts in more money to the federal pot than it takes out. His state takes out more than it puts in. Senator Mcconnell, who’s getting bailed out here? It’s your state that is living on the money that we generate. Your state is getting bailed out. Not my state.

Nancy Pelosi may be a Marie Antoinette about ice cream, but she hits the nail squarely on the head:
Nancy Pelosi Bluntly Sums Up Trump's Pandemic Response: "Delay, Denial, Death"
“For our seniors in nursing homes and the rest, as you say, there’s a big toll being taken there. But if we can test and contact and isolate people, we’re on a very much better path,” she said.

“There’s a Boy Scout saying, ‘Proper preparation prevents poor performance.’ Well, that is exactly where the president gets an F.”

“He was not properly prepared, not with the truth, with the facts, or the admission of what was happening in our country — delay, whatever, delay, denial, death,” Pelosi said.

Who would have thought that Mnuchin would end up being the most competent person in the executive branch? Obviously, it's a low bar, but still ...

He may be an odious character, with odious ideologies, but his tenure at Goldman would certainly qualify him as being a competent.

A Massachusetts National Guard medical unit is visiting my mother's assisted living tomorrow to test everyone.

But they can only do it once due to chronic short supply.

GRRRR There should be enough tests and supplies and diagnostics to do this as often as needed!

We have enough tests. Tests are over-rated. We've got the best tests. We love the elderly.

You know, some times you gonna go, when you gonna go.

But seriously best of luck! It'll be good to have a slate of tests done, then it becomes an issue of really being on top of the staff because they are the risk to those living in there.

Trump’s Hotels Aren’t Housing Coronavirus First Responders Because That Would Require Him to Grow a Conscience | Vanity Fair
Of the many industries that have taken a massive economic hit due to the coronavirus, the hospitality industry is up there; hotels and resorts have likely lost billions considering most people on the planet have been told to stay home. As a result, thousands of hotels remain virtually empty, save for the ones that have chosen to lend a hand during the crisis. In New York City, for example, at least 20 hotels have responded to Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio’s call to use vacant rooms to house medical workers, to shelter the homeless, and to serve as makeshift hospitals as the existing ones quickly run out of space. (In NYC, an epicenter of the crisis, the government is hoping to triple its existing 20,000 hospital beds by May.) Among those volunteering are the storied Plaza Hotel and St. Regis. Yet while the city is home to Trump International Hotel & Tower, the president’s company has chosen not to open its doors to those most in need because that would require Donald Trump to grow a conscience, a medical breakthrough that might prove even more elusive than a vaccine for COVID-19.

Trump might respond "Nobody has a bigger conscience than I do".

Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Twitter: ".@AOC says Americans should boycott work. As usual she’s wrong. The goal should be for Americans to SAFELY return to work because unlike AOC and members of Congress, most of us actually have to show up at work to get paid and support our families! #ProtectLivesProtectLivelihoods" / Twitter

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "@SarahHuckabee Look who’s talking about showing up for work! The woman didn’t hold a press conference for months while holding a job as press sec.
If you’re so supportive of this admin’s plan, why don’t you go out and try delivering groceries for a living w/o health insurance or mass testing?" / Twitter

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "Trump has NO PLAN to get people safely back to work.
GOP Govs like Kemp are sending vulnerable workers to die w/ false claims of safety.
Trump also pushed an unproven, dangerous treatment as a “cure” & firing experts who want to vet claims.
Last thing you care abt is safety. https://t.co/3yEgTp3dqf" / Twitter

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "And by the way, setting up vulnerable workers to grind 70 hours a week to barely survive and STILL not have health insurance is unsafe too." / Twitter

House passes $484B coronavirus relief package | TheHill
The vote was 388-5-1, with four conservative Republicans breaking with GOP leaders to oppose the measure, citing its effect on federal deficit. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) also voted against the measure, while Rep. Justin Amash (I-Mich.) voted president.
The four Republicans who voted "no" were House Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Biggs (Ariz.) and Reps. Ken Buck (Colo.), Jody Hice (Ga.) and Thomas Massie (Ky.).

AOC didn't like it because it doesn't go far enough. Especially after she had to go to DC just to vote on it.

CSPAN on Twitter: ".@RepAOC @AOC: "It is a joke when Republicans say that they have urgency around this bill...you are not trying fix this bill for mom & pops. We have to fight to fund hospitals. Fighting to fund testing...It is unconscionable." Full video here: https://t.co/IBennHJzF3 https://t.co/1rx1e16Unr" / Twitter - another fierce speech from her about this issue.

AOC Coronavirus Relief Bill Speech Is Essential Viewing

abigailtracy on Twitter: "In criticizing the COVID-19 interim relief bill, @AOC has been a lonely voice—even among progressives. But you really have to look no further than the number of cases and deaths in her district to understand why she has been so vocal. https://t.co/ZcEDvLXym1" / Twitter

“We Are Abdicating Our Responsibility”: Why AOC Is Not Following the Pelosi Line on the Emergency Relief Bill | Vanity Fair
“We are abdicating our responsibility. We haven’t legislated for a month and thousands of people are dying…. Every time we pass one of these bills, we are hearing that the real solution is coming in the next bill and the next bill and the next bill,” the freshman congresswoman said in an interview with MSNBC on Tuesday night, hours after the bill passed the Senate. “At some point, we have to raise our hands and say, ‘When is the solution coming?’ Because two months of rent are going to pass by before we are actually entertaining a real bill.”
Some of AOC's fellow progressives have offered similar criticisms of this bill as very insufficient: “It’s going to be very difficult to support a package that doesn’t have some of the desperate relief we need for state and local governments, for people.” But they ended up voting for it.
Even Pelosi and Schumer nodded at the reality that the bill passed Tuesday was merely a stopgap. “As soon as it has passed in the House, we will advance CARES 2, which must be transformative and far-reaching,” they wrote in their joint statement Tuesday. “CARES 2 must recognize that the key to getting Americans back to work and ensuring economic security is putting the health and safety of the American people first and defeating this terrible virus.”

There is also a sense on Capitol Hill that the interim package might be the best Democrats can get at this moment, given the political reality of a Republican-controlled Senate and Donald Trump in the White House.
I'll let AOC have the last word here.
As for Republicans’ sudden concerns over the burgeoning national deficit, Ocasio-Cortez didn’t mince her words in a video conference with fellow progressive lawmakers on Monday. “If all these folks are worried about the deficit when a Democrat takes back the White House, let’s roll back that $2 trillion tax cut. I’m down. If you are worried about the deficit and you are worried about the national debt, let’s raise some taxes,” she said emphatically. “Let’s make sure that Jeff Bezos pays what he needs to pay and contributes to this country. Let’s make sure Facebook pays its taxes for once. Let’s make sure Walmart pays taxes for once, so that they don’t pay less than undocumented immigrants do in taxes in the United States of America. So let’s get it together. I am willing to come halfway and let’s raise some taxes so that we can bring down the deficit. I am happy with that.”

He added, "I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning. As you see it gets in the lungs, it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that."

Fuck each and every asshole that voted for this man. Maybe some bonus pain for the assholes that continue to support this man child idiot.

The rubes better use plastic light bulbs or we will get more "1 man 1 jar" type videos.

“I see a plague coming on the world and the bars and church and government will shut down. The plague will hit New York City and shake it like it has never been shaken. The plague is going to force prayerless believers into radical prayer and into their Bibles and repentance will be the cry from the man of God in the pulpit. And out of it will come a third Great Awakening that will sweep America and the world.”

Wow, I didn't even hear about this prophecy until today. It's from Dr. Wilkerson in 1986. This is spooky stuff for non-believers.

The skeptics probably said, "Crackpot!" until it happened.

Yep as this bullshit has been peddled before. People will shoehorn any vague prediction into events and screech "prophecy".

But at least there is no shortages on tinfoil amirite?

Shouldn’t this be spooky to believers not non-believers? After all, non-believers understand history existed before the 1980s and there have been a number of epidemics, ones much worse, hopefully to remain that way, than this.

I support all Trump supporters drinking bleach.

That's not very nice. Just imagine the outrage if Trump said that all Democrats should drink bleach.

I'm sure you would say that is not nice behavior.

If he did, you trumpers would jump up and down screaming "Why are they the ones who get to drink bleach???"

Outrage? At this point? Who'd even be surprised?

But then, the only thing Democrats really threaten is holding Trump accountable. For the deaths, the economy, the graft, the corporate socialism, his many crimes, lies, and double-standards... Of course he would demand thrir deaths, he might be inconvenienced.

This astroturf movement to end social distancing threatens my life, though. So killing the people actively trying to spread the plague as far as possible would be self defense.

I advocate doing no harm to people. But Trump supporters can drink bleach if they want. They can do it outside if they want.

The sad part is that some of them will. Perhaps not bleach, but they'll try to consume some disinfectant thinking that since Trump told them (and he's so smart!) it must be the right thing to do.

That's the risk. If you watch the video (and I posted it in the "Day Without Stupid?" thread), it is clear that neither injecting disinfectant nor UV light have been tested. At all. Trump is just throwing shit against the wall and asking if it might work, which is exceedingly irresponsible. The President - during a national emergency - should be giving the public the best available information, deferring to the experts when necessary, and not promoting false hopes or outright fake solutions.

Trump is doing everything wrong, and his supporters not only believe everything he says, they may actually act upon his wild speculative rants.

And yeah, it would be fine by me if a few of his supporters earned a Darwin Award by drinking a fatal amount of bleach, but that's not the danger.

Some idiot is going to take his words to heart, sip a tiny bit of bleach, lay out in the sun for a half hour, and figure they're "cured" and it's okay to visit grandma. They don't realize that the firm handshake they gave to someone at the "Liberate!" rally gave them the virus, grandma gets it, and a few weeks later the family matriarch dies alone and doesn't get a funeral. All because a self-centered asshole believed another self-centered asshole.

That, to me, seems a lot more "not so nice."
