Ok, I'll take you up on that. I'm an astrophysicist. Please tell me an obscure law that governs my job duties. And by obscure, I mean obscure to me, not simply obscure to others not in my profession. Because that was the case here, right? The law was obscure to someone who didn't work in the DMV, but it should have been known to those who did.

Were you aware that if you make contact with an alien on your own and didn't do so through the US government, you're subject to a punishment of up to one year in jail and a fine of $5000?

And besides, the law actually covered mandatory quarantine periods for extra-terrestrial exposure not contact with aliens: http://www.snopes.com/legal/et.asp

Furthermore, this would have impacted spacefaring astronauts, not earth-bound astrophysicists.

Methinks he doth protest too much. If you were an alien who can travel between stars, wouldn't it be easy for your to infiltrate a planet by posing as an astrophysicist? $5000 is not a big enough fine.

The inherent issue with my "challenge" is that there is no way to confirm whether the Astrophysicist knew this before or after searching for it and posting it as a response.

Not an accusation of dishonesty.. just a fact of internet conversations...

That's irrelevant because the "challenge" was for an obscure law that I didn't know about that governs my professional actions. Since this law hasn't been in effect in 25 years it doesn't qualify.
