US justice system - white vs. black

Now that the family of Justine Diamond has been given $20M USD in compo I wonder how that relates to other cases of wrongful police shootings.

I was talking to a work colleague about this and we wondered what would have been the compo if Justine has been black?

So assuming the cop was still found guilty
1. Would a black family have got much compo for the death of a female relative?
2. Would teh sentence for teh cop be different if the colour is important?

The cop fired because he was spooked, he had no particular reason to think he was under threat. That was going to result in a big settlement no matter who got killed.

I also don't think the outcome of the trial would be any different. Juries consider this sort of thing manslaughter.

Many police shootings resulted in large settlements/veridicts even when the police officer(s) did nothing wrong. For example Michael Brown. Rob a store, attack a police officer, have your family pick up cool million and a half. Or Korryn Gaines. Threatened police with a shotgun. Received jury verdict of $37 million. Luckily, a judge reversed the jury award for now, but I have no idea how it will all turn out in the end.

If the cop was white and non-Muslim, I'm guessing $40 million or so.

If anything, it would be more.

While $ matters a lot for guilt verdicts and sentencing, there is good evidence that race matters as well.

Studies using numerous control variables (including wealth, type of legal council, type of crime, criminal background, etc.) show that blacks get longer sentences.

Convergent evidence is provided by a randomized experiments that hold all other variables constant and show direct causal effects of race on guilt verdicts and sentencing (experiments also show that men and less attractive defendants get longer sentences).
In fact, a meta-analysis found that the experiments that had more methodological rigor in how race was manipulated and how other variables were controlled were the one's that showed the largest effects of race on sentencing.

In fact, the absence of a racial bias in the courts is theoretically absurd and would require throwing out most of what is known about basic human decision making. Mountains of research over the past half century show that subjective decisions under conditions of incomplete information and uncertainty (which includes decisions of guilt and sentencing) are extremely biased by people's a prior assumptions and that this is true most of the time for most people.

So, in order for there to be no racial bias in the justice system, there would have to be zero racism. Countless studies using a variety of methods show that racist beliefs against blacks are extremely widespread among whites. In fact, research has shown that more than 1 in 3 whites in the US are willing to admit that they think blacks are literally less evolved than whites, a view that is the epitome of white supremacy. https://slate.com/news-and-politics...d-described-black-people-as-less-evolved.html

So, it would something just sort of a supernatural miracle, if somehow the widespread racism among the dominant race on juries magically bypassed the basic aspects of human psychology and failed to lead to outcomes that were biased against blacks.

You do know that there are blacks on the juries. And that there is this racist black lawyer who wants blacks on the juries to nullify any case with a white victim?
Here’s How Black People Could Use Jury Nullification To Break The Justice System

Daniel Shaver got killed playing Simon Says. Watch the bodycam video and you will see what I mean.

Different rules from when I was a kid.
Just sayin' ...

This is the video, cop was like Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast.

Watching the footage fills me with very, very dark thoughts. If Brailsford is murdered I will not shed a tear.

At 3:44 he yells "I said keep your legs crossed!"

If I was on the jury that would be the point I voted guilty.
