President Trump launches first campaign ad for 2020 election -- 1282 days away | syracuse.com
The 2020 election season has officially begun.

President Donald Trump launched his first campaign ad for re-election on Monday, 1,282 days before the next presidential election. The 30-second commercial, paid for by Donald J. Trump for President Inc. and approved by Trump, focuses on his first 100 days in office.

"America has rarely seen such success," a narrator says in the video. "America is winning and President Trump is making America great again."

Well, he has much more fun running for president than BEING president. Seems like a natural place for him to turn for validation and self-esteem.

He actually filed paperwork to run months ago. Which then leads to another set of complications for Trump abusing taxpayer money. When is he speaking as The President (expenses paid) and when is he The Candidate (he has to pay)?

When I was in the Washington airport back in March I bought a 'Make America Great Again' magnet.

It's a real magnet. It actually exists.

None of the first tier are running. Too old. Bottom tier, goodness help us if it comes to that! I'd add Sheldon Whitehouse to the list of people in the second tier. I don't see Franken running for President.

He filed immediately. By running for office people can give him bribes campaign contributions.

So straight up the GOP is a thoroughly corrupt party right? If they had the interest of the public at hand a lot of their policies wouldn't exist, or be up for debate, right?

I honestly can't even think about American politics without images of good versus evil coming to mind.

I agree that America has rarely seen anything like Trump's first 100 days in office.

What about Oprah??

"First Tier" is definitely a set of museum pieces.
I am not completely familiar with Tier 2, but have been impressed with Chris Murphy as far as his ability to articulate. Don't think he's the sort that will fire up millions of people to get them to turn out, though.
Maybe Cheato will provide sufficient incentive to defeat himself, but I wouldn't count on it. He has that un-shakeable base of 40+ percent, and only needs to rope in a few idiots who are subject to manipulation by Uncle Vlad.

The best-case scenario for Dems would be for a relative unknown with boundless charisma and a least a little bit of a brain, to emerge at the last minute (before the GOP and their Russian helpers can compile/invent a lot of dirt on him).
The best case for America would be a charismatic third party candidate who could freely repudiate the Dem and Rep establishments, and capture the imagination of the populace.
The worst thing the Dems can do is nominate another female - Trump would go straight into the playground bully mode for which is so well loved, and any in-kind reciprocal treatment would create a an appearance that would repel a significant fraction of the electorate. I'm not being misogynistic about that, just realistic.

Right now it's time to look at county commissioners, mayoral contests and any statehouses that can be moved to the left. Without some real change on that level, even a presidential victory would be nothing more than "we got rid of the fat orange turd".

I don't know if they'll run again, but Tim Kaine and Martin O'Malley were both pretty uninspiring in 2016.

Warren would be 71 in 2020. Younger than Sanders was when he ran, and younger than Trump will be in 2020. Long shot, but not out of the realm of possibility.

I've seen pro-Trump commercials here already. I've cut back on my TV viewing I really don't want to see 4 years of this shit.

The first tier is too old and boring. We need someone rich, very charismatic, and willing to fight. To me, it's Mark Cuban or bust. And I don't see a close second.

It's too bad Jerry Brown is so old. Conservatives have vilified him since the 1970s, but he's a hell of a governor (California). The DNC needs to begin identifying younger contenders right now. No matter how badly things go under Trump, the next election can't be taken for granted. We saw W. get re-elected even after the disastrous fucking lie that was the Iraq War. A box of old shoes should've been able to beat W. in that election, but his supporters would not be swayed by the reality of what happened. And while I like John Kerry, let's face it, he had the tone and demeanor of a creepy butler in 1930s horror flick.
