US President 2016 - the Great Horse Race

Oh, my! If you, in West Oz know who he is, then I, here in the Frozen North, better pull my finger out and find out something about him.

The name Sanders has a nice sound. Imagine...President Sanders. A pleasant thought...maybe Robert Reich for VP. We would at least have somebody there that understands what a government is supposed to do.

Is that a WASP dig at my friend Barack Obama, that he does not know what to do, and what's more, a few years ago would not be served in a Diner in States like Alabama?

As with all leaders, I do disagree with Obama on drone warfare and Israel Policy. I disagree with Sanders on Israel policy as well. In most of the racial issues, I support Obama whenever he is right. I still feel he has played into the hands of corporatists, oil people, the military industry and bankers far too much. I am not fond of the insurance company and pharmaceutical company expenses that have been built into Obamacare, but think it has proven itself better than nothing.

No politician should ever rate from any of us a blanket approval.

The issue is the demand that female candidates be given special immunity from certain attacks. To me, that is sexism. Male and female candidates should be treated equally. If we can talk about Christie's and Huckabee's weight, Sanders' wild or Edwards' and Kerry's expensively coiffured hair, etc. then we can talk about Hillary's schizophrenic hairstyles and her wrinkles as well.

No, the issue is that you're demonstrating that you see everything through the lens of your own - shall we say - quaintly outdated view of women.
How is my view on women "quaintly outdated"? I did not say women should not lead countries - by all accounts for example Angela Merkel is quite competent. If anything the idea of a woman getting a position through her husband is the quaintly outdated one.

And it isn't just the regurgitated right wing slurs against Hillary.
Like what?

It isn't just the claim that she'd be nothing without her husband.
Not "nothing". She is a quite competent lawyer and she would have had a successful law career if not for Bill. But she definitely would not have become a senator from NY, SecState and the inevitable presidential candidate for the second time. ;)

It isn't the unflattering photos.
Then why accusations of sexism when photos of Hillary are posted.

I could give you a break if your posting history was even remotely equally littered with vicious attacks against men in general, but it isn't, so I can't.
I am not attacking women in general either. And in particular I have written negatively and posted unflattering pictures of male candidates as well.

I get it. You could only hate her more if she were black and accusing a man of rape.
If you have no real arguments pile on the non sequiturs.

There are plenty of things about Hillary I don't care for, but I'm going to make a note to myself that - if the election turns out so - I'm going to respond to your little photo up there with one of her taking the oath of office, just because I know it will piss you off.

Yes it will. Because I do not think she is the best choice to lead this country by a long shot.
However, Merkel being sworn as chancellor did not piss me off in the slightest (I follow German politics because I used to live there).
How do you know if she would or wouldn't have become a senator or was successful in politics "without Bill"? There is no possible way to make that determination.

Actually, seen from abroad the question sometime is "would have Bill been successful without her"? It sometimes looked like she was the driver in the couple, and just put Bill in front because the US was not ready for a woman in charge yet.

Plot twist: Monica was really blowing Hillary that whole time!

Some recent Republican entrants:
Bobby Jindal
Chris Christie
Jim Gilmore
Scott Walker
John Kasich

Former Virginia governor Jim Gilmore has announced that he'd be starting his campaign at the beginning of August, but his intent gives him away.

Election 2016: Trump insults Jeb Bush, Rick Perry, gives out Lindsey Graham's number - CBS News -- Donald Trump thus doxed Lindsey Graham.

I would not be surprised if some Republican Party officials are getting nostalgic for the days of smoke-filled rooms, when Party officials would decide on candidates behind the scenes. Including meeting in rooms notable for accumulating tobacco smoke from their users ( Smoke-filled room). Nowadays, if they did that, someone might jokingly bring some dry ice.

Donald Trump Has No Idea How to Speak to the GOP’s Religious Base with quotes
“I’m a religious person,” Mr. Trump offered. “I go to church. Do I do things that are wrong? I guess so.”

Mr. Trump also struggled to answer if he had ever sought forgiveness from God, before reluctantly acknowledging that he had not. “If I do something wrong, I try to do something right,” he said. “I don’t bring God into that picture.”

… Mr. Trump raised eyebrows with language rarely heard before an evangelical audience — saying “damn” and “hell” when discussing education and the economy…

“When we go in church and I drink the little wine, which is about the only wine I drink, and I eat the little cracker — I guess that’s a form of asking forgiveness,” Mr. Trump said.
He seems like he's a nominal Xian rather than someone very into some flavor of Xianity.

Prior to 2008, Mitt Romney was "not a Christian" but instead a "member of the Mormon cult." Once he received the Republican Party's nomination, however, many on the Religious Right quietly decided that, because he holds the proper stance on abortion and same-sex marriage, Romney is close enough.

I'm sure that when the Republican candidate is announced in 2016, the same hard-swallowing re-assessment will occur.

But at least Mitt had the family values thing going for him. He was vanilla, non-threatening, and it was God this and Jesus that and God and Jesus built America in every major speech.

Trump has zero to offer evangelicals. He's been on top of enough silicone to seal every crack in every house in the U.S. five times over. He's built enough casinos to keep Gambler's Anonymous in business for decades. And Gluttony? The man is the living version of the word.

If this circus actually turns serious, there won't just be a dig into his background; there's going to be an excavation. And it's going to yield so much seedy shit that it will have to drive away a significant portion of the End Timers. They'll have to bring Mitt back before they remember he's a Mormon, and then pay Pat Robertson $50 million to shamble out there and say enough stupid things to make them feel better.

But this will be over soon. Bashing Mexicans, southern dandies, and old farts who want to call in air strikes on Mexicans and southern dandies will only get you so far.

It'll be between Walker and the unfortunately less gaffe-prone Bush.

Plot twist: Monica was really blowing Hillary that whole time!

Well, her husband did tell us that. "I DID NOT HAVE SEX WITH THAT WOMAN." he said. Was he just procuring for Hillary? :)

It was him telling Monica that he hasn't touched Hillary.

The one I feel sorry for is Chelsea Clinton. It must be tough finding out that your real father is Janet Reno.

I've thought about this too

In other words, Donald Trump may be our greatest hope for a non-religious President.
If you need me, I’ll be in the corner sitting in the fetal position.
that

Walker for president, Paul for VP, Trump as Sec. State, and McCain as Sec. of War. Palin for Interior.
