Well, during WWII they developed and sold brown raisin bread in a can because it held up longer on the shelf than a ready made loaf, and things like butter, milk, flour and eggs were hard as shit to come by in a lot f countries for quite a long while.
Not saying it was a good idea, but looking at what brought it into existence and I can see their point. Also, I don't think they were all that worried about the substances use to keep preservation of something like that while sitting ona shelf, and even though now we can look at those things most people wouldn't consider actually eating it versus starving.
Or maybe it's just me that'd rather starve than even open that can, lolz. Ugh.
