After reading the New Yorker profile of Curtis Yarvin, it is more clear to me than ever that we live in the age of fraud. The ultimate crisis we are experiencing is one of epistomology: a majority of people are unable to distinguish bullshit and propaganda from established science and fact.

When should someone be skepitcal about something, and when should someone accept it as likely or highly likely to he true. Not having a good foundation to distinguish between the two opens oneself up to delusion and being taken advantage of by conmen. This is an art that the conmen have perfected in recent years.

Trump, of course, is a prime example. Through sheer bluster, lies and confidence, and a victimhood mentality when someone calls him out on his bullshit, a huge swath of the population is drawn in. He is a low IQ conman but a very effective one. But we also have high IQ conmen that use a different set of con skills.

They don't quite have Trump's low IQ skillset but they excel at baffling people with sophisticated bullshit. Elon Musk, Curtis Yarvin, Eric Weinstein, among others fall into this category. They have had success and do legimately have high IQ, but they put that all to work in a grand fraud to portray themselves not merely as smart but as one in a billion geniuses.

And to the masses, unable to tell the difference between geniune brilliance and sophisticated bullshit, they take in every word as truth. These high IQ bullshiters portray themselves as geniuses through sheer sophistry. Yet any analysis of what they claim can be easily demonstrated as full of lies, half truths, pseudoscience, conspiracies, victomhood, ad-homenim attacks, among other things.

And yet, this is exactly the kind of thing the Joe Rogans of the world fall for. They are the marks. And then they become useful idiots in legitimizing these fraudsters, and the audience is of the same mind.
We must at least begin by calling out the tactics the fraudsters use, call them out for every lie, every false promise, every crybaby victimhood statement. Be relentless. Do not give them an iota of respectability. Elon has made so many false promises and told so many lies, worse than Elizabeth Holmes.

That he is treated as some genius entrepreneur whose words are taken for divine wisdom is a spell that must be completely shattered. Him and everyone else of his ilk need to be called out, laughed at, and shamed at every opportunity.

For anyone interested, here is the Curtis Yarvin profile. Do not read this after you have eaten, as the contents of your meal are likely to be regurgitated.

You are just noticing it?
You have been living in that since forever.
The whole unholy union of "democracy" and capitalism is built on that.

The 19th century America was worse than today. Today we have 24/7 global visibility, at least where there is a free press.

Greed and corruption are endemic to us humans.

Two things I heard from family in the 50s when I was a kid, 'You can't trust city hall', and 'You can'tbeve everything you read in the newspapers'.

Communism on paper looked good but Chinese And Russian communism weer both in the end corrupt.

the TV show 60 Minutes has been on TV for 57 years and thy have yet to run out of stories of corruption and fraud.

So now we can check out everything we read. We do not have to take what one news source says as gospel. We can not only find out if something is true but how true something may be, who says it's true and is there money behind this truth and where did it come from. We can dig and dig and dig before we push the "I believe" button. If we want to.
It is not always the truthfulness of a story but the importance of it. Being able to discern between information that may be of great importance to society or one that simply supports one's held beliefs or triggers an emotional response. Having the capability to take large studies and polling data as a better source than our individual observations of our own little corner of the world.
And lastly having the ability to recognize the differences between high IQ, business acumen, and the ability to con others and not to conflate them.

Why did so many people vote for Trump? I asked myself this in 2016. Okay, so more people are more easily conned than I had anticipated. So why did few learn their lesson in 2020 after four years of Trump? I thought that election would have been a landslide. Then 2024 happened. If I take "with college degree" in polling data at face value, plenty of presumed well educated people still voted for Trump. Why is that?

It does not help if you are an idiot.
For example, you are still believing in RussiaGate and that Biden is not senile.
You are a prime example of someone spreading fraudulence, but fortunately you are just an internet nobody.

As Steve notes, this isn't exactly unprecedented. A newspaper helped drag the US into a war in the late 19th Century.

What has happened is 40 years of AM Radio and cable news brainwashed 25 to 30% of America. Social Media has helped mankind be dumb as well. In the information age, it has never been so easy to be misinformed. The trouble I'm having is that with the right-wing, my BS detectors go off on a claim about them... and more often than not, the claims are true, which is very bothersome. There certainly is misinformation out there in social media against the GOP, however.

The spread of Q-Anon was worrisome. Something so obviously fake was being taken seriously by too many people. It leads to a very disturbing self-fulfilling prophecy where the truth no longer matters, only the mission matters. The lies can be pushed aside because the mission is what counts. At that point, some of these people have become impervious to rationality. They are too invested in 'the mission' to handle the shock to the ego when it is exposed for a fraud.

With media and social media, access to disinformation has never been this easy and some people get addicted to it. With Trump, we have seen lying normalized. Politics has always included fanciful and creative use of facts and information, but Trump just takes it to three levels above, lies about everything, so as to never get caught in a lie. We haven't had that in the White House before. He has stolen millions from his followers, and then continue giving to him like he is a Mega Church fraud.

No, I am not, you are.

I know you are, but what am I?

Some people believe the Kerch Bridge is safe to drive over.
Some people support Nazi and Islamic terrorists

Not would be you, at least in the case of the former. Also, Islam is not a terrorist organization.

The pundits say people voted for Trump knowing who he is because they thought he would make the economy better.

Christians have said the same thing, they know who he is but they believe he would aid their causes.

Also immigration.

And people no longer believed the democrats' party line.

Democrats for a long tine played to blacks making promises. Blacks at a black college graduation turned their backs to Biden as he spake. Biden was pathetic, pleading for black votes.

It s the validity and truth f the left that people questioned in the last election.

Depending on how you look at it it is the democrats who are the frauds, the republican messaging has been consistent.

You may not like the right, bu what you see is what you get.

If I take "with college degree" in polling data at face value, plenty of presumed well educated people still voted for Trump. Why is that?

I've spoken my peace on this issue. The only thing I'll repeat is that the Dems have driven away millions of voters and continue to do so.

Anyway, I attribute the Trump phenomenon as a reading issue. IOW, people don't read books. To say they have a shallow understanding of the issues is an insult to the word "shallow."

These people don't know history, political philosophy, or even what's in their own best interests. It's a long winded way to say that most of them are ignoramuses.

So why did all these morons start voting? I blame it on the internet. They can read a headline, a short but bombastic article, watch pundits on Fox, and then believe they know things. It's a majority age coloring book for kids who've been held back three years in elementary school.

Maybe it’s not that Democrats have driven away millions of voters, but millions of voters have fled to Trump because .., they are ignoramuses, for reasons that you cite among others?

Not that Dems are all that hot, but the idea that Trump offers a better alternative is to laugh in order to keep from crying.

JD Vance is a big Yarvin acolyte. Nuff said.

Lol, democracy has nothing to do with it. Orwell, originally a supporter of communism, noticed the frauds of the soviet version and spoke powefully against them. Your fascist authoritarian state literally arrests and kills truth tellers. The US is still a ways away from that point (although sliding towards it).

The difference seems to be that more people than ever are falling for these frauds and cons and giving them what they want: wealth and power.

If Tesla collapses like I think it has a legimate chance of doing, it will be the greatest fraud in history. We could be talking about "Musk Schemes" like we talk about Ponzi Schemes in the future. Money pours toward a fraud like Elon to the tune of hundreds of billions or even trillion.

The most popular podcast, Joe Rogan, embraces dozens of these frauds, and people love tuning in to them.

Curtis Yarvin embraces psudeophilosophy, psudeohistory, conspiracies and half-truths about liberal democracy and his ideas become embraced and implemented (to some extent) by the rich and powerful.

A fraud like RFK Jr. leads the most important health agency in the country and perhaps the world.

A fraud like Trump leads the most powerful nation in the world. Half the country think he is smart and a genius negotiator.

The right wing media system is filled with frauds and grifters and they are getting wealthy like never before.

I don't think at any time in history (at least US history) have the fraudusters ever had so much wealth and power, and the people willingly give it to them to this extreme level.

We’re getting very very close. The war on the judiciary will decide whether or not this authoritarian regime is able to criminalize criticism. When that battle is lost, all else is foregone. We have become Putin’s Russia.
At this point, critics are being attacked legally and illegally, at a rate with which the beleaguered judiciary is unable to cope. By January ‘27 it will be too late, if SCOTUS still fiddles while democracy burns. Even if there’s a “blue wave” in November 26, those elected will likely never be seated.
