Well... it's Trump... again. #47, here we go.

But for most everyone else on this thread knowing how dumb and corrupt Trump and MAGA are, could I hear your response on Biden's pre-emptive pardons for INNOCENT people prior to leaving office?

Are you in some sort of contest with yourself for inanity?

Pardoning GUILTY people can be problematic. What is your objection to pardoning INNOCENT people?

In the unlikely event that you deign to address this question, but "need" to turn it into a long dialog where concessions of actual thought are squeezed out of you, one short phrase at a time, I will not participate. Just declare yourself the winner now if that rouses your balls.
1. It may not even be legal
2. Pardoning innocent individuals lifts the flood gate they are free to commit crimes pre-emptively. Big time moral hazard.
3. It tells the public these are really guilty people that got away with it.
Reality check time:

1) Why wouldn't it be legal? He pardoned acts that fell into certain categories. Nothing about that requires that there actually is something in that category. (Suppose I put up a sign: "Entry forbidden to those taller than 9'.")

2) They were pardons for past acts, not future acts.

3) It doesn't tell people that they are guilty. Have you noticed that I have for some time said he should preemptively pardon the targets of the witch hunts? Which is what he did, but not widely enough. Does that mean I think they're guilty of anything? No. Witch hunts are never about the guilty. The only pardon that went to someone that I think is guilty is his son--and I agree with it, anyway. The Republicans were blocking the proper course of justice. (And I would say that even if I didn't feel the crime he was charged with shouldn't exist. Drugs should be treated like alcohol--don't mix with guns. Not that you can't do both but at different times.)
1) Some lawyers are now making the claim. Its never happened before so not tested in court yet.
2) In practice, what is the difference? If you can not charge a person with a federal crime today for yesterday, then that criminal knows he is free to commit the crime today.
3) Witch hunts are exactly what a well functioning judicial system should handle with ease. For example, there will be no incentive for a witch hunt when justice is routinely served having judicial orders for the losing side compensation for loss of time and legal fees. That is how our justice system is supposed to work! Nobody goes on a witch hunt if they know it will not pay. How our system is NOT supposed to work is for shady family members to buddy up with powerful political people mafia style for protection and pardons. As we just saw with Biden.

Yet, you voted for the dude that violated the constitution anyway, and for some reason and worried about the people Biden pardoned to protect them from Trump's bullshit agenda... when Trump pardoned lots of people that beat up police officers while trying to overthrow an election.

One can't make this shit up.

What The F**king F**k ???
:fuckoff:

President Donald Trump recently ordered the release of massive amounts of water from two California dams, and now local farmers are scrambling to preserve precious freshwater resources needed for dry summer months.

The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers — acting on Trump's orders — released water from the Terminus Dam at Lake Kaweah and the Schafer Dam at Lake Success, which are both in Tulare County in the San Joaquin Valley. Whereas water was originally flowing from the Terminus Dam at 57 cubic feet per second (cfs), it's now reportedly flowing at more than 1,500 cfs. The flow from Lake Success went from 105 cfas to 990 cfs as of Friday morning.

In a post to his official X account, Trump tweeted a "photo of beautiful water flow that I just opened in California," writing: "Today, 1.6 billion gallons and, in 3 days, it will be 5.2 billion gallons." He suggested that the water release would help officials in the Golden State fight wildfires in Southern California.

"Everybody should be happy about this long fought Victory!" he tweeted. "I only wish they listened to me six years ago – There would have been no fire!"

However ... there are multiple physical and legal barriers that prevent the valley's water from getting to Southern California. SJV Water reported that the water would have to be "pumped at great expense" across the valley to the California Aqueduct, where it would still need to travel hundreds of miles to make it to the Los Angeles area.

The two dams are considered important reservoirs of water for farmers in the San Joaquin Valley, which is known for its "Citrus Belt" that produced more than four million tons of citrus fruits — particularly Mandarin, Navel and Valencia oranges, along with grapefruits and lemons — in the 2020-2021 season alone. Tulare County water manager Dan Vink said the release of water from the dams could make irrigation difficult.
...
Climate scientist Peter Gleick — who specializes in water issues — lamented on Bluesky that water resources farmers had been "relying on" was effectively "thrown away" by the Trump administration all for the sale of "a photo op & a bragging media post."

"This water will not be captured, will not be useful for cities or farms or firefighting," Gleick wrote. "It is now lost."

Does this just resemble the malicious doings of a six year-old brat? I guess we'll be seeing a lot of mischief like this directed against "enemies" -- states that don't vote Red. A nightmare is unfolding.
Trump has a remarkable gift for being able to fuck things up and make things worse.
The goal here is to punish California for being "woke". That's it.
By starving the very region of California where Republican support is strongest? No, this was pure idiocy.

Since when do people obsessed with revenge or punishment think ahead? Not mutually exclusive. Besides Trump already believes he can get away with anything.

our founders specifically setup 3 separate branches, the justice department being completely separate from the executive and legislative branches
Which is why the FACT that Trump holds sway over the Republican majorities in both chambers of Congress as well as the SCOTUS and much of the Federal judiciary is beyond alarming.
The fascist guy wants to be The Dictator plain and simple, as you’ve been informed for years.
I actually respect and hear where you are coming from here Elixir. But as Ben Franklin predicted and especially since citizens united, our country has long lost to oligarchy being the Republic it once was. Since the country is already lost what do most of us do at this point?

Our empire is at about the same point that Julius Cesar became dictator for Rome. Yes, Cesar was a dictator but he also restored sanity and order again to that government. And Rome went on many hundred years after that. Maybe someone after Trump will be able take our country back to the Constitution and a functioning Republic again.

But one thing I am sure about is that Trump did not cause this country to lose its republic in the first place. The uni-party helped us do that.

House GOP nears plan for Trump’s agenda — but may not have the votes

GOP leadership earlier this week unveiled a plan to lawmakers that will cut $315 billion in spending over 10 years, but will add another $325 billion in spending on Trump’s national security and immigration crackdown, said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private briefings.

Those cuts are floors, the people say, and Republicans will aim to reduce spending far beyond them where possible.

Major portions of Trump’s 2017 tax cut — which lowered rates for businesses and all income brackets but concentrated benefits among the most wealthy — are set to expire at the end of the year. The House GOP plans to extend those provisions and add other business tax incentives, at a cost of $5.5 trillion over a decade. Because the legislation mainly aims to renew some expiring policies, Republicans will not factor in the cost of the tax cuts in the bill, though they will claim projected increases in federal revenue from much-hoped-for private-sector growth, the people said.
Where have we heard that last bolded part before?

If you can not charge a person with a federal crime today for yesterday, then that criminal knows he is free to commit the crime today
That's not how it works.

You get a pass for crimes committed before the date of the pardon. Anything you do after that date isn't covered.

But let’s face it, it’s the progressive’s that are the ones who kick up a fuss about books they don’t like, insisting there are trigger warnings on the classics and caterwauling about how mathematics is white privilege etc.
Trigger warnings don't prevent anyone from having access to a book. Coming up with word problems that reference other things than 1950s white suburban lifestyles doesn't prevent anyone from learning mathematics. Banning books and ending all public access or oversight to the functions of the department of education? Those are an attack on the rights and freedoms of all citizens. I don't need anyone to tell me what I'm allowed or not allowed to know, or read, or watch, least of all whichever dumb prick has conned his way into the White House in any given year. Fuck this Nazi bullshit, go live in Russia or Hungary if you love this kind of authoritarian crap so much.

I briefly wondered what Kevin McCarthy thought about the Feds wasting South Valley's farm water on Trump's orders, then remembered that it doesn't matter anymore, because he's also somehow now a "woke" traitor (and retired). These morons couldn't run a student body government without accidentally starting a war with their own constituents.

I never said it did but it’s just one of the tools used to marginalize and sideline material that progressives don’t like or approve of.

I wonder why US kids are falling behind other countries these days.

I’m still none the wiser as to what books are actually being banned.

As far as I can tell, access to books has not been infringed upon so what on earth are you talking about?

I guess the progress of this thread indicates that swiz et al. approve of Trump dumping the summer irrigation water in the ocean.

You don’t recall this?

From Angelou to Vonnegut, Florida schools pulled hundreds of books last year

Maybe Politesse was referring to something else but the Republicans have indeed been supportive of restricting access to books that don’t meet their own personal views.

In other library news, apparently some supervisor had created a policy of getting rid of any books that hadn’t been checked out in the last couple years. So one librarian created a fake account and card to check out and check back in books in danger of being removed

No I don’t recall it. I live in California so Florida is not on my radar. Your link is behind a paywall so I had to look elsewhere. Seems some Florida school districts did some housekeeping on their libraries at the behest of parents? Unclear why books were taken out but I see some of the gender bender propaganda was removed. Hardly the book burning frenzy of Nazis as presented.

It was national news at the time. I live in California too.

Seems some Florida school districts did some housekeeping on their libraries at the behest of parents?

The law was changed so that parents could call out any book they didn’t like for removal, essentially. It became a bit of a laughing stock when one parent asked for the Bible to be removed too because of all the rape, murder, etc.

Unclear why books were taken out but I see some of the gender bender propaganda was removed.

Some were classics that have been around a long time and refer to sexuality in some ways and his forbid homosexuality even!!

Hardly the book burning frenzy of Nazis as presented.
That’s true. But your claim was access to books had not been infringed. I wouldn’t be surprised if many of those parents would be happy with a book burning, though, if given the option.
