I like Maddow (her book "Drift" was excellent) but she's not always "succinct." I'll have to check it out when it becomes available on the intertubes.

As far as the firings, a friend of mine's daughter was one of the Park Service employees who were let go over the weekend. The thing that gets me is that they didn't just let her (and many of her co-workers) go, but stuck the metaphorical knife in her back on the way out. The email wasn't "our priorities have changed" or "budget cuts have forced us to eliminate your position," or even "we wish you well in your future endeavors," but rather (quoting for accuracy) "The Agency finds, based on your performance, that you have not demonstrated that your further employment at the Agency would be in the public interest." They're victim blaming. It's not that we're cutting your job, it's that you're being fired because you suck.

That is actually happening across the board because these firings need cause. The problem is the Trump admin is lying about the cause to fire these people. The Trump team is lying about these good empolyees.

American's of Hispanic decent or Hispanics that are naturalized citizens will soon be required to carry their proof of citizenship wtih them, as right now the only criteria is black hair, olive skin and often speaking Spanish. I have a very good friend who was born in Peru but became as US citizen 8 years ago. She is a very pretty girl with jet black hair, dark eyes and beautiful olive skin, yet she has been approached by strangers who told her she needed to go back to Mexico. Not sure why Mexico since she is Peruvian.

Kind of shows the lie to their other claim, someone spoke of an email when fired in one of these threads, that said the firing was for poor performance.

Because someone reminded him in a meeting that if bird flu should happen to spread and kill Americans, he eliminated all the people and organizations who made him look bad during Covid, so he will be the one to get the blame if this happens. So the people being hired back are for potential scapegoating and nothing more.
 
And now the feckless GOP Senators are asking if they can have more (or well at least the money that was appropriated for their state).

More likely the Dump and repugs will even more than now funnel Federal dollars to red states while cutting funding to blue states and try to suck blue states dry. We are already seeing it with the EO directing department of transportation funding to favor states with higher birth and marriage rates.
 
So, the economy is showing potential issues. Funny how the GOP supporters think the economy is awesome in January and the Democrats not so good... almost mirroring each other back in December (chart and data in article).

But what actually does matter are the wallets and retail sales dropped $8 billion in January from December. This isn't an unprecedented drop this time of year, however, the magnitude is a bit a higher. Obviously Trump just became President, so the tariffs can't be blamed for that... yet.
