No, the purists that voted for Ralph Nader in 2000, in part, led to this. I always showed up, I always voted. I'm not the problem.

The reality is the Democrats have almost no cards to play. I don't know if this will end up working in their favor, on the face of it, it appears meek. But I am pragmatic enough to recognize that Schumer could be following through on something. It isn't like he has a lot in his hand to play with. The guy got two reconciliation bills passed which had never been done before. So there is reason for hope.

Yeah, I watched that video. Again it is a case of if President Biden had said this he would have been finished, but of course it is being ignored in favour of a beat-up about a BBC broadcast in which a long speech was cut down to a shorter piece with superfluous text cut out, which is a common practice. An example occurred just recently where, was it CNN, omitted parts of an interview with Trump (and here what was deleted wasn't so superfluous). Also, the BBC thing was not something broadcast in USA so had no US electoraL effect (not that it would anyway because the actual live speech had no bad consequences for Trump, and basically everyone in the world watched that).

Incidentally, the people responsible for the BBC thing were Tories, which is not a surprise as the conservatives have major control of the BBC (just as they have had in Australia with the ABC for decades).

Actually doing something starts with the need to "do something". The "something" is left vague because what each person CAN do is highly dependent on their context.

Lifting up your hands and saying "we've tried nothing and are all out of options" is NOT effective.

Yet again one of the reasons you g people don't vote is because old people give them no reason to. If you forced people to earn your vote as young people do they would fear the consequences of this kind of assfuckery.

But because there are no consequences for negative behavior, for rolling over, for doing nothing, our representatives do nothing.

Republicans got dragged further right because the Republican party feared losing elections to the loss of voters.

It doesn't matter. At this point, getting fired up over Trump's rhetoric and hypocrisy is old. He's not a statesman, he's a disgraceful, self-aggrandizing piece of shit, but that's nothing new either.

If you ask me what the solution is, hell, I don't know. When law and decorum are off the table and when the norms that helped the country function are stomped into the dirt, what's to be done? This is unprecedented in this nation's history and it's not comparable to any other situation with the same factors in place because we're dealing with a superpower, not some much less influential nation whose consequences to the free world barely make the news.

IMO, the only thing we can hope for is that next year's elections are allowed to go forth legitimately, but even then, the impact of a huge blue takeover will be minimal due to SCOTUS. I think we're fucked because the Court has given carte blanche to Trump. If he wants to make the argument that a third term is Constitutionally acceptable, then the game's over.
