WH Actively trying to stymie release of tax returms.

play the video of him saying he totally wants to release his tax returns... and by "the" video, I mean any one of the dozens where he said that.
That is the approval to proceed. If he wants to retract those multiple approvals, he can do so with another dozen videos, or tweets, publicly retracting his prior approval.

While I don’t want to be on Teump’s side, the article says that the Dems want to look at his returns in order to scout them for illegal activity. That doesn’t seem to be a valid reason. The process should be that they present probable cause for illegal activity and then make the request based on that.

According to Trump himself, his returns have been under audit for the past three years. If there was any illegal activity, it would be the responsibility of the IRS to take action.

We can choose from one of two certainties. Either the returns will indicate illegal activity, or embarrassing information. Actually, the embarrassing element is guaranteed. If the tax returned made Donald Trump appear to be a shrewd wealthy businessman, say something in the mode of Warren Buffet, copies of all relevant documents would have been passed out at campaign rallies.

On the bright side, we don't know what the Federal Prosecutors at the Southern District of New York are doing with their time. They have all of Michael Cohen's records. Now that the Special Prosecutor also has Paul Manafort's and Roger Stone's records, as well, there's no predicting what will come out in the next year.

We can be fairly certain of one thing. It really doesn't matter what politics a US Attorney might hold, none of them wants to go down in history as the guy who let Donald Trump get away.

1) why would we believe the trumpster fire about this compared to anything else?

2) it seems there is plenty of probably cause, and I suspect Mueller already has the tax returns and has at least started going through them.

3) if it's shown that the scrotus is actively trying to get people within the IRS (and Mnuchin seems to be on board) to not release them to a subpoena, then a) they should be fired; and b) both they and FFvC should be charged with obstruction.

As early as mid-2017, the FBI investigated Orangey to see if he was secretly working on behalf of the Russkies. It is beyond the tipping point for the Dems, on behalf of the country, to find out as much as possible about this man.

IRS isn’t tasked with looking at the same details about income that a US Attorney would be. IRS’s main concern is the reporting of the income.

good point. I could report $100,000 income from "Bank Robbery", and as long as I pay the income tax on it, the IRS has no interest in followup.

The reason we need to see all president's tax returns is to see if they are pushing legislation, or taking executive actions that benefits them personally.

For example, if a president has a lot of business in, oh let's say Italy, for example, and that president pushes policies or takes executive actions that would benefit anyone who does business with Italy, that would be suspicious. Or if a president has a huge investment is a particular business and that president takes action to give that type of business special benefits, that would also be suspicious. So, while a president's tax returns may not demonstrate any illegal activity, they could be a source of information that allows the citizens and Congress to know if that president has a possible conflict of interest between something that benefits him/her personally as opposed to something that benefits that country that the president serves.

Trump is the only president in recent history that has refused to make his tax returns public. Why is that? Hmmmmm.

That might have been so a decade ago, but the electoral college put a business person, not a public servant, into office.
So, acting like a CEO whose primary drive is to make more money is exactly what was desired. who would have thought that capitalistic greed was the pinnacle of Patriotism... not me.. oh no no no.
