What about the White Men????????

My brain is kinda fuzzy about this, but hopefully some wise person can enlighten me:

What are the reasons for people (including a lot of white men) being so dismissive these days of white men? What, specifically, is the "crime", so to speak, that white men are guilty of? Where/when did it start? There was none of this going on back when I was a kid, that I can recall. Why is it a thing now?

White is, as white does.

Interesting. So those called "oreos", "bananas", and "coconuts" (one color on the outside, white on the inside) are all white.

Many years ago, I had an employee who cynically remarked, "If I was white, I could get a raise." I considered this a teaching moment.

I asked him, "Why do white men run the world?"
"Cause they are white?"

"No, that's just the smallest part of it. They act white and you can too. All you have to do is show up on time, ready to work, do what you're told to do, and do what you say you're going to do. That's all there is to it. You do that for a couple years and the people with the money look at you and think, now there's a guy I can rely on to help me make more money."

I could tell it wasn't really sinking in, so I tried a different approach.

"Do you think the NBA is almost all black players because white team owners just like to hire black men?"
He knew that wasn't right.

"They give gajillion dollar contracts to black men who will show up on time, ready to work, do what they're told and do what they say they'll do."
That one sank in.

That is true, although there's a lot of bias at work when it comes to employment as well, bias that most managers aren't even aware of.

I found it interesting when I was working for TD Bank last summer, and watched some video of our CEO during preliminary training sessions. The guy looked exactly like what you'd imagine a CEO of a bank to look like. I have no doubt that this played at least a small role in the fact that he made it to the position he did.

Now when most people, men, women, black, white, imagine what a competent person looks like, they're usually imagining a middle-aged, fit, masculine, dignified looking white guy. It's only a sample size of one, but in the last few years I had a Caribbean friend outright state that she thought white people were inherently smarter than black people. Figure that one out.

Anyway, point is, you're right, if people work hard and produce results things will tend to go well for them, however white men do have the benefit of people already assuming that they're intelligent and competent, while women and minorities (depending on context) are more likely to have to prove themselves.

Would it be racist for an organization to target white poverty? Say, whites living in places like this?

Or is their "white privilege" already all the help they need?

If it is racist, then why is it fine for organizations to target only black poverty? Why not target all poverty?

Their crime. Their crime?

Their crime is they believe these people, because of their plight,

are entitled to discriminate against and hang

These people. But, these people are supposed to say sir to and apologize to

These people who are just pointing out facts.

What do you see when you look at that picture?

A living area inhabited by people who are impoverished.

I see what looks like a Mexican itinerant area where they have to live because they are kept out of housing decent enough to complement the cars they have worked so hard to acquire.

I initially missed the people by the truck if that's what you mean. I didn't see any people in the photo at first look.

Whites are being "persecuted" by racial minorities.

Men are being "persecuted" by women.

Christians are being "persecuted" by atheists, religious minorities, and homosexuals.

The rich are being "persecuted" by the poor and the middle class.

Then again, the Nazis claimed they were being "persecuted" by Jews, Apartheid South Africans claimed they were being "persecuted" by blacks, and Muslims in Muslim-majority countries claim they're being "persecuted" by religious minorities. There seems to be a lot of this going around. Some day, someone will explain to me why conservative political movements insist on claiming that they are being "persecuted" by their own victims every time they persecute someone.

Whether there are people in the picture or not is irrelevant to the question. You set up a scenario, the picture is a visual aid to that scenario ("Would it be racist for an organization to target white poverty? Say, whites living in places like this?

Or is their "white privilege" already all the help they need?

If it is racist, then why is it fine for organizations to target only black poverty? Why not target all poverty?"). The scenario, not its visual aid is the thing, is it not? You seem to want to address poverty, and i want to be sure that is what you are saying. So you see not poor people, but poverty?

I see people living in poverty and/or living in impoverished areas. Don't know why you are trying to make this so overly complex and are taking such a round-about way to make a point. If you have a point to make, make it.
