I take it as a given the Trump doesn't do anything that he doesn't see in his own personal self interest.

Why would he refuse to enforce the law banning TikTok?

He supposedly sees China as a threat and yet sources his cheap overpriced merchandise from China
He threatens huge tariffs on China supposedly to "bring the jobs home" but all that will accomplish is send production to Indonesia or somewhere else and raise prices in the US.

He could conceivably view another social media app as a threat to his Lying social. Unless he plans to be the one to buy it (massive conflicts of interest.)

I'm seeing stories that the MAGAtards are not for allowing TikTok to stay active so he pisses off some MAGAtards

The ban was widely supported in congress for the claim that TikTok is a security threat.

Is this some first step to see how hard it will be to blatantly refuse to enforce laws? If so he's gonna piss off tons of Republicans in Congress.

What gives here?

The last person to talk to him said nix the TikTok ban.

Congress can take him to court, and it goes up the channel pretty quickly. I'm against a ban on TikTok. I'm also against TikTok and SAST (short attention span theater) it endorses.

It’s also another chance for the apricot to show that he controls everything. if he says the sun will rise in the west tomorrow, his faithful will tell you it did, by tomorrow afternoon.
It’s real 1984-type shit.

He seems to make up his mind based on what some ning-nong on Fox just said. He takes a phrase or two from their talking heads, rephrases it in his own garbled way (the Weave! the Weave!) and thinks he's mastered the subject.
You've got to admit the economy of this approach. For instance, you not only don't have to read a book, you don't have to read a position paper. You can be sitting on the john while you decide these things.

George Orwell - 1984 said:
It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grammes a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be REDUCED to twenty grammes a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.

Reasons for not enforcing:

1. Jeffrey Yass, billionaire who owns 15% of TikTok's parent company, is a big republican donor and has donated to Trump

2. The law hasn't been rescinded, it is still in effect, just not enforced. So TikTok better be nice to the President or he may change his mind on that enforcement thing.

Reports of anti-Trump/MAGA posts on TikTok are being removed.

Some rich people called him he says. They really like tiktok. He wouldn't want anything bad to happen to tiktok.

If you listen to what Trump said, he is grateful for the youth vote that helped him get elected. Yes, I know you can't trust anything out of his mouth or any other politician for that matter. But I do believe what he said this time because with Trump loyalty is a huge deal.

I expect Trump will probably do what he can for these young voters who supported him. Not for himself but for the rest of his family who might be in politics after he is done in office.

Someone else in the broligarchy will buy it and then it will serve Trump.

Firstly, cite please. Secondly, and this should be of no surprise to anybody, youth voters preferred Harris overall. And the fact you believe Trump cares about anyone but himself and Ivanka is proof that you might listen, but you sure as shit don't understand.

Kids are fucked then.
Not for himself but for the rest of his family who might be in politics after he is done in office.
...I mean...fucking...no. I just can't. That there are still people in 2025 who actually believe Trump has to capacity to be even remotely altruistic makes me think abortions should be mandatory and we should let the dolphins run the planet for a couple of centuries. As a species we have forfeited that right.

The short answer is that it is in his best financial interests to not enforce TikTok bans. I’m certain that ultimately it is putting money in his pocket which, along with personal grudges and staying out of jail are his only motivations for anything at all. Of course it does push his personal grudge button: Biden signed the ban and therefore Trump must ignore the ban. Plus, TikTok was being banned because it spied on people ( collected personal data) which Trump does not object to and in fact wants to profit from.

Trump started the anti TikTok campaign himself. It's like a mob boss saying if you don't pay up it would be a shame if something happened to your app.

TikTok execs made the trip to Mar A Lago, kissed the ring, probably made large donations to the "Inauguration fund", or the vig as it's more properly known. Voila, Trumps supports TikTok.

The stuff my wife sees on WeChat (Chinese equivalent to the social media apps) has been rather pro-Felon.
