What The Actual Fuck???

So the shooter was up on potential manslaughter charges... but not assault? I can appreciate it being possible that her actions were necessary, but shouldn't a grand jury need to double check lesser charges. Also, was the shot to the stomach intentionally placed there?

Also, aren't police officers trained to give pregnant women a bit of leeway due to the whole pregnancy thing making them potentially crazy... *looks to see if anyone is looking* ...-ier.

*ducks*
Women fighting with deadly weapons over some man, and here I sit, can't even get a date. Do I need to start hanging out at Dollar General or what?

No, but you do need to start treating women like crap. You're most likely just too nice a guy Derec.

Just pretend you have a lot of money and treat them like crap if you want to get layed often.
Yes... because if there is one thing Derec has made clear, it is his "compassion" for women... even those that have shown an interest in him.

note to mods: Derec brought it up.

Hopefully, the grand jury will refuse to let this go to trail, especially since the Alabama anti abortion law is unconstitutional. At least for now, Roe v. Wade remains in effect. But, if it's over turned, this is potentially the insanity that will follow in states like Alabama.

So, if I get into an argument with someone and they kick me in the stomach so hard I get an embolism and die, that's on them.

If you initiated the argument and eventually that someone was acting in self-defence, as the police say was the case here, then it might not be on them.

I thought there needed to be a crime or something.

I pity the woman. If you're in Alabama in June, in a DolGen, grabbing your Clover Valley orange soda, baby wipes & ramen noodles, and dodging gunfire from a fellow shopper, you've already passed your limit on bad karma. On the other hand, jail might be an upgrade.

Haven't you heard? Women are merely vessels designed to receive the male offering and to bring forth new life. Oh, and to cook dinner and clean up and change diapers.

In Alabama many are handy with a gun too.

If I'm pregnant, late term, and stupid enough to start a fight, I am certainly intentionally putting the unborn child, fetus, pregnancy, whatever current parlance calls my condition, in harms way. It's no different than if I jumped off a bridge, survived, but lost the pregnancy. All that is my responsibility unless I am declared to have been mentally incompetent.

So yes, she's an asshole and the law is saying she's an asshole.

She attacked the other woman, and the other woman defending herself with a gun.
It is pretty common to charge people when other people are killed due to that person's actions. The only difference here is that the third person is in the womb the original attacker.

If Ebony Jamison can be charged with some form of homicide in the death of the fetus had she been found responsible, why can't Marshae Jones be charged now that the grand jury thinks she is the responsible party?

And if she can be charged, then every pregnant women seen smoking or doing anything that that poses a medical risk to the fetus should be immediately arrested for abuse and child endangerment. Do you agree with that or are you a hypocrite?

Of course, all are ridiculous, b/c a fetus is not a person and there is no sound grounds for granting it personhood status. Therefore it cannot by definition be murdered. Actions by other or the mother that harm the fetus should not be treated as they an additional crime has been committed against any person other than the mother herself.

So... If Travon Martin had had the gun... and George Zimmerman had been pregnant in Alabama... Then George Zimmerman stalking accosting and initiating the argument with Martin would have resulted in Zimmerman getting some serious attention from the courts.

Do I have that right?

I would not have a problem with charging women if they deliberately do things that harm the fetus. Even if you are a pro-abortion absolutist, these behaviors usually do not kill the fetus and result in a damaged baby being born.
If a woman's behavior causes her baby to get fetal alcohol syndrome or some other congenital disease, should she not be held responsible just because she is female?

Fetal homicide laws have been around for years and have not been declared unconstitutional. There is even a federal law to that effect. I do agree that they are inconsistent with Roe, but blame the courts for that, not me. :)

It's not initiating the argument that is relevant here, but physically attacking somebody. Thus Trayvon comparison somewhat applies. Z was acquitted because the jury held that he was defending himself from a physical attack by Trayvon.
By the way, I guess my reference to sidewalk upthread (post 11) was too subtle since nobody seems to have picked up on it. :)

Nothing subtle about it at all. Nor any of your posts. Your proclivities are well known and well documented in these pages. Nothing to do but to ignore such.

Is it your position that if you saw a pregnant woman drinking and smoking like a fish, you would say, "That's not gonna harm your baby because it's just a fetus! Things can't harm something that's not even granted personhood! Keep doing it!"

So a pregnant women loses all agency? She can't even be in an argument? She must remain an utterly passive, protective growth medium for the fetus, otherwise she risks criminal prosecution for the actions others choose to take that could potentially harm it?

I believe they are also allowed to make sammiches for the menfolk, but maybe not in AL.

You guys do realize there was a study done recently that showed conservative women are happier overall than liberal women, right? The left has been scrambling to debunk it because they hate that those facts disagree with their feelings.
