Which movie did you watch today and how would you rate it?

I watched "When Harry met Sally" last week. Great comedy. I give it a 10

Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan were perfect in this romantic comedy.
Rob Reiner met his wife while he was making that movie. In the end, Ryan and Crystal were originally supposed to part ways. Reiner found his new love and it inspired him rewrite the end for them to be together.
Tell me something I don’t know, I think everyone was talking about that right after Reiner died, which made me want to see the movie again, since it’s been years since I saw it the first time.:)

I could never buy Billy Crystal as a love interest of anyone's. But then again I had to be closeted in my disdain for all things Billy Crystal. I never found him or Chevy Chase funny, which would've been like showing up at a pentecostal church in a Satan costume.

I'm Your Man

It's about a women who receives a robot who looks like a real man. Unlike the now well-tread path of horror/sci-fi portrayals of the same, this one is very grounded and explores the various, multifaceted of human nature, what it means to be human, and the internal and external conflicts this would create in a real person.

It's a very melancholy, bittersweet film.

If you're looking for an exciting thriller where cold sentient cyborgs blow the shit out of cities and murder people, this won't do it for you, but if you want to see how an authentic AI partner might affect real people, then it's definitely worth seeing.

6.5/10

Flushed Away (2006)
YT usualy serves me 2nd rate movies, but this was from DreamWorks/Aardman Animation (Wallice & Gromit), how bad could it be?
It was great. I give it 8/10. I was in the mood for silly sight gags.
In London a privliged pet rat gets flushed into the sewer rat's version of London.

To each their own. I hate science fiction and have been criticized for that, but do I give a fuck? Nope!

We all have different tastes in art, music, literature etc. That's what makes life interesting.

I also watched "Frankie and Johnny" last week, a movie I love which a lot of people hate because they think that Al Pacino's character was too obnoxious is the way her pursued the character played by Michele Pfeiffer. But, I love that movie and have seen it about 10 times. No surprise since Pacino is my favorite actor and I have about 10 of his movies on DVD.

Tron: Ares

It looked fantastic in 4K. That was the only fantastic aspect of the movie.

Two top competing software engineering companies have developed a way to create objects using lasers. But whatever they create disintegrates in just a few seconds. Thus the quest for the permanence code.

People and programs now go in and out of the grid due to one of the CEOs of one of the software companies being a complete douche canoe.

That's all the story I will reveal. I give it a 6/10. Without the great effects in 4K I would lower it to a 5.

Worth a watch just out of curiosity.

At worst an Aardman film is good (Cavemen). Flushed Away was weird because I had not idea it was coming out. Saw an ad at a local Kohls store and knew I had to see it. Very solid effort especially with the World Cup references.

Bourne Legacy. You can mark me as one of the few that liked this movie. Twists the overall plot into it well.

That’s because idiots who hate science fiction never understand the insults that science fiction-loving geniuses fling at them! If they understood they’d truly be pissed.

Watched "Sucker Punch" on a very slow night at work. It was the "movie everyone could agree on" (all three of us) even though I'd never seen it. 2011 Zack Snyder movie that didn't exactly light up the box office or any critical acclaim. The one sentence description on IMDB is "A young girl institutionalized by her abusive stepfather retreats to an alternative reality as a coping strategy and envisions a plan to help her escape."

I quite liked it. Stylized, visually arresting film that took me a second to figure out. "Wait...so she was in a mental institution one minute, then she's in a strip club/bordello, and now she's fighting a giant Samurai who's armed with a rocket launcher and a mini-gun? Oh...now I get it."

It reminded me of "Sin City" to a certain degree, and once I got to the part where the protagonist and her femme fatale associates were fighting zombie soldiers in a steam-punk version of WWI I just kinda let go and enjoyed the ride. Our operations were shut down an hour early and I could have left work at that moment, but I stayed to watch the end of the movie.

6/10

Or maybe it's because I like real science and find science fiction to be boring as hell. ( another fiction that I dislike )

You’re implying that science fiction isn’t real!

I agree that the notion that SF is boring is a VERY dislikeable fiction!

I liked it too. I haven't seen it quite a while so maybe I'll revisit it. It took a lot of crap at the time and still does now, but it was never supposed to be a deep meditation on anything. There are potentially deep themes, but the film is more about the visuals you mentioned. It's not supposed to be Citizen Kane.
