Kinda like the Alien franchise. Aliens ended on a good high note, and that's when I started pretending they made no others. Ripley and her cohorts when home and lived happily-ever-after-nightmareless lives.

A must-see documentary about Edward Snowden. About half of it is his interviews in Hong Kong, and the other half about the aftermath of the leak. This shit should be mandatory material for everyone before they are allowed to use the internet.
On an unrelated note, it irks me that somehow Hollywood execs think that if there is an interesting person or an event, people will want to see a fictional movie about it rather than a documentary. For example, what purpose does The Walk serve if one has seen Man on Wire? I dread the day when a movie about Snowden comes out and they fuck up everything about him, or the ramifications of the NSA surveillance, to make it more dramatic.

I still haven't seen the second one! I remember when it came out they were making II and III, which was a bit unusual. Trilogies were rather rare back in the day... before Hollywood decided to phone in the trilogies.

Like someone else said, just pretend they never happened. It's for the best because the second one demands that you see the third and by then it's too late; the poison is already in your system.

I read the book a few months ago.
I felt that the movie kept to the main plot points, didn't bore the viewer with too much technical detail, and produced the expected ending.
But as my son noted, there wasn't anything about the movie that indicated Ridley Scott's involvement. It could have been directed by Ron Howard.
Good performances, good CG stuff. I paid for the 3D but it didn't seem to enhance the movie by much.
Straightfoward, conventional movie.

Max Max Fury Road 8/10 - lots of action with various motor vehicles, which was very well done. Story was too simple and too little time was left for anything else beyond the basic plot points and action scenes: for instance Max and Furiousa seemed to become unquestioning allies within about 5 seconds flat. Loved the artificial arm. If they make a sequel, more exposition is required.
Final Girl 4.5/10 Very average revenge-by-proxy movie with an utterly unconvincing protagonist, who simply looks too small and dumpy to seriously hurt anyone no matter what her willpower level is.

The second of Tim Burton's films featuring the Caped Crusader has some points of interest, but ultimately is not a success. The plot strands involving the schemes of the film's trio of villains are not integrated very well; Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman fares the best, giving an effective performance.

I agree with the reviews here, and add that to me the wind strength appeared to be too powerful for such a thin atmosphere, even with the added velocity. Also, there were a few minor deviations from the book.

I watched this as the weekend. Pretty poor stuff, I'll give it 3. I don't think much of the filming was done in Scotland either.

The Mist 8/10
I think this is one of the smartest, best scripted horror movies out there. I think this movie showed how people would really react under the extraordinary circumstances they found themselves in. After the disaster strikes I like how the people in the store drifted in and out of alliances and cliques in a rather - Sartre-esque fashion, until the sides finally coalesced for the final act. I found all the characters believable: Andre Braugher's skeptic with a chip on his shoulder doesn't come off as the horror cliche" non-believer who's gonna get it" - but as someone genuinely trying to work through the situation rationally though his bias against the townspeople clouds his judgement. But the best is really Marcia Gay Harden's Mrs Carmody - the evangelical nutcase. Carmody is a stock King character and a lot of King's written dialogue just doesn't translate well to the screen - But Darabont really gave her some great dialogue and Harden plays it with the just the right amount of zealotry and self-righteousness.
As for the ending - say what you will about the nihilism of the ending, but I look at it this way: I see this movie as a bookend piece with Darabont's other King adaptation of The Shawshank Redemption Whereas Shawshank was about holding onto hope no matter what - The Mist was about hopeless and the events that will drive the everyman to lose all hope.
One more thing - I had the credits rolling as I was listening to the final song on the soundtrack, which was "The Host of Seraphim" by Dead Can dance, I believe. After the song was over, the credits continued to roll, but instead of music you heard the sound of trucks, equipment, helicopters, etc... I thought maybe there would be an after-credit scene, but there was none. I though that was really odd.

The ending of the movie was a lot different than the story, but holy crap does it hit like a ton of bricks. And IMHO, that's good. It was a great movie and by sticking with the same ending of the book it would have practically forced a second and inevitably crappy sequel. The way they ended in the movie ensures that it remains a good stand alone horror flick that won't be defiled by future iterations. The same thing with Pet Sematary. I really liked the first movie, but the sequel was awful.
