Who did it better?

Frankie Valli and Boys Town Gang with Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You;

Frankie Valli version is excellent but the Boys Town Gang version adds a bit more pep to the song but holy crap, the video is as cheesy as it gets

This song was used to great effect in The Deer Hunter

Another tough one with three fantastic singers, Ketty Lester, Alison Moyet and The Kin, Elvis Presley

All three versions are great and I would call it a tie but Alison Moyet wins it for me because I love Alison Moyet's work.

I think the Ketty Lester one does it for me. The voice control is really good and adds a uniqeness to it for me.

Never heard KL before. That's for posting it, Swizz. (y)

A very different interpretation of Motorhead's Ace of Spades;

Eli Paperboy Reed goes to town on his version

Aside from the lyrics, the versions are completely different. Eli injects a lot James Brown like funk into it and it is a great song but the Motorhead version stil wins it.

Which reminds me of the time Motorhead appeared on The Young Ones

RIP Rik Mayall

UK - In the Dead of Night

Cover by Yngwie Malmsteen.

Never been too interested in Malmsteen and so didn't have high expectations for this cover, but I thought it was fantastic. He didn't copy the solo, he did his own thing on it, but it was great. The whole band was. I have no notes.

Mad World by Tears for Fears

The song was adapted for the movie Donnie Darko by Gary Jules. I haven't seen the movie but the Jules version probably fits with the theme of the movie but on its own, it is not a patch on the original Tears For Fears version. If the Jules version came on the radio, I would switch station but if the Tears For Fears version came on he radio, I'd turn up the volume!!

Morrissey v The Pretenders Back On The Chain Gang

Seeing Morrissey playing a guitar is wild but he does a great job with the Pretenders' classic hit. I'll call this a tie.

It Must Be Love

The original is a rather cheesy and inoffensive love song but Madness turn it into a catchy pop song with a good video.

This one goes to The Nutty Boys.

Midnight Hour, Wilson Pickett v Roxy Music

The Wilson Pickett version is a masterpiece and I don't think you can best a masterpiece. Many have tried on this song and I think Roxy Music do a good job. At best it's a tie, Roxy Music don't really do anything drastic to the song but the Wilson Pickett version always blows me away so Wilson Pickett for the win.

The song was featured in a 1991 Irish movie called The Commitments which is very entertaining.

The Foo Fighters take on the Bee Gees

The Foo Fighters doing disco is pretty wild in itself but they do sound pretty darned good. I don't see that they did anything drastically different to the song. A tie!

Bee Gees had all the talent. I admired and hated them. I’ll take Foo Fighters without even listening, just because they were less formulaic. Even doing a cover!

One of my daughters asked me to play Bruno Mars’ “Locked out of Heaven”. Right after listening to that I played her “Message in a Bottle” by The Police.

I don't find much difference between to FF and BGs versions as far as the music goes. The female backup singers ib the FF video are definitely hotter than anything going on in the BDs video

I was this years old when I found out that Blondie's Denis was a cover.

Blondie wins easily.
