Why the Parkland shooter could buy a gun: Policing aimed at downplaying incidents

Zero tolerance is normally applied to not using common sense about school rule violations.

Why should there be something other than zero tolerance for actual criminal activity?

"criminal activity" for which there is zero evidence of and you are studiously avoiding acknowledging...

You realize that despite this watering down he was expelled twice?

You realize that being expelled is not an arrestable offense.

I will request once more: Name the specific crimes for which (you claim) he was not arrested, and provide factual citations for your claims.

I read the OP article. The agreement between the school and the sheriff's office makes perfect sense. Instead of treating every possible misdemeanor offense as potential jail, it sets out the conditions under which misdemeanors will be acted upon by the police and the legal system, and when they will not. What the author of the article and LP appear to forget is that schools are filled with children and schools are an educational, not penal, institution.

But why should they get a free pass for repeated crimes just because a school is involved?

And while I can see not prosecuting once when it's repeated and don't do anything meaningful about it you just encourage the behavior.

Ask the sheriff and the school.

Depends on what is causing the behavior and what is done in lieu of invoking the legal system.

The school has no power to get them treatment.

By sweeping the wrongdoing under the rug you simply teach that there are no consequences for wrongdoing. Of course you get more wrongdoing!

Not true.

hat is utter nonsense. You have no evidence that any of this alleged wrongdoing was "swept under the rug" (i.e. no consequences or attempts to address the problem).

Of course you get more wrongdoing!
I realize you are a fount of mindless memes, but you have no evidence (other than your ignorantly biased view of this anecdote) whether that is true or not for this school.

Pretend the bad apples aren't bad and you won't be able to detect bad apples!

Yawn.

Other countries have crazy people, yet don't have so many mass shootings per capita.

It's not the crazy people. Stop saying it's the crazy people, unless your goal is to convince everyone that you're bad at thinking about things.

Meanwhile, a single dog dies and the Senate immediately leaps into action:

Welcome to America where the lives of dogs have far more value than the lives of human children. This is because America is a shithole country.

Well, I don't think there is Big Overhead Bin to lobby politicians.

Big Overhead Bin lobby rates Rep. Kennedy a D for the support of reasonable overhead bin legislation.

The other funny thing about Parkland... dozens murdered in Orlando and Las Vegas. No love for them? We aren't willing to protect anyone! A daycare could get shot up and the NRA would be whining as to why we don't have more guns in daycares.

Shoot up an elderly home... why not more guns at elderly homes?

Shoot up a Veteran Assistance place... *crickets*

I don't think they said a word about that... probably related to the NRA's suggestion we give veterans guns in school. ???
I think Copernicus is being judgmental and over bearing by comme...

...oh wait...

...nevermind. :D
