Yet another war, this time with Iran

Given all the other bombs he has dropped on Iran, I am not seeing how the F-bomb makes the slightest difference, or is particularly newsworthy.

What, are people supposed to suddenly realise that he may not be a very pleasant or diplomatic individual? This is a surprise to them?
Newsworthy? Yes. Surprise? No.
Cringeworthy though it be, we should all be made to know what the POTUS is saying. It should come as a surprise to no one. I for one fully expected this and more since that morning in November 2016 when I read the news and lost control of my bowels. And I do expect worse from him. And I don’t expect Congress to do its job.
I hope Xi has the good sense not to take advantage of the situation as that might be game over.

In his first term there were reports of his going into rants and throwing things around.

It was said he had a short attention span, he would walk out of meetings and go watch TV.

Right now he is probably bouncing off the walls. He can't just walk away as he did with business failures and he can't jive his way out,. He is stuck with it. It is probably toxic to be in the WH.

His expletives and threats indicate he is losing whatever self control he had. What happens if he orders a nuclear strike?

He tried to eldercare victory saying goals were met and it would be over in week or two.

Now Iran says Hormuz will not reopen until reparations are paid.

Casualties and POWs are a reality of warfare. Are we so soft that we can't handle the reality of war?

Are you so soft-headed that you can’t handle the reality that this is an UNCONSTITUTIONAL war, and not in self-defense, as after Pearl Harbor, but by the whim of the madman in the White House?
You could argue that the war should not have been started. But now that we are in it, pulling out prematurely is the worst possible outcome. Especially if, as some Ilkists want, it is coupled with giving in to the Regime demands. No, the only way out is through.

Look at the Keyboad Warrior’s stupid little cliches!

Hey, Derec, rather than rat-tat-tatting on your keyboard, why don’t YOU put YOUR ass on the line, join the military, and rat-tat-tat against the Iranians with a real gun?

Oh, I’m sure you’d love to — of course! — but you’re too old, or have bone spurs, or some shit like that. Riiiiight!

Meanwhile you’ll be sitting in the comfort of your home rooting on war crimes like the destruction of civilian bridges and tut-tutting about how the rest of us gotta toughen up! The only way out is through! 🤮

jhe constitutionality is murky.

The Trump counterargument is the War Powers Act.

The
War Powers Resolution of 1973 (or Act) is a federal law restricting the U.S. President’s power to commit armed forces into hostilities without Congressional approval. Enacted over President Nixon’s veto following the Vietnam War, it requires notifying Congress within 48 hours of deploying troops and mandates withdrawing them within 60–90 days unless authorized.

President Obama did not formally invoke the
War Powers Resolution to authorize military action, but he used his executive power to initiate conflicts, most notably in Libya (2011), while arguing that U.S. involvement did not constitute "hostilities" under the act's definitions. This approach drew bipartisan criticism for bypassing Congress.

Trump may be irrational and reckless without a plan, but he is not without president.

In exchange for immediately opening the strait, we could cease all support for Israel and have Trump resign as president. I think that would do the trick. But if they want to play hardball, we could sweeten the pot by transferring title of Mar-a-Lago to them. I'd be good with that.

And it sounds like he is going to brag about how the US rescued the second crew member (thank goodness), while hand-waving the need for it in the first place, the extraordinary danger that rescue team itself was put under, and the rather substantial cost of the rescue... making one wonder, was the target that plane was sent to attack worth it.

The President has a great deal of leeway. We are crossing a threshold however. I can't say for certain, but I've got to imagine this is the largest US military effort without Congressional approval in several decades. Of course, Congress can do their part, but they aren't, which again, we are in this bizarro world of imbalanced branches of power in DC.

There appears to be no point of the adults in the GOP standing up and saying 'let's bring back some normalcy'. No, instead it seems like as long as Trump continues to dismantle the regulatory portion of the Executive Branch, he can do whatever he wants.

IMO he should be impeached for gross incompetence, not hing to happen.

IAW with the War Powers Act Congress will have to vote on whether to continue or not.

We will see what happens.

From BBC reporting the Iranian opposition joy and optimism is fading. They are realizing Trump could give a shit about hem. As infrastructure gets bobbed they are hating Trump as much as the regime.

Their worse fear is it ends with a settlement that leaves the regimen in power.

As leadership is killed hard liners are moving up.

The US military sending a million troops into Iran could help the opposition get a bit more courage but at the moment, Trump's plan is for the opposition to get massacred because the US military doesn't have the staffing for a mobilization that large. The Iranian Opposition has stated "pass". As did the Iranian Kurds.

Meanwhile oil and fuel supply is starting to grow in concern. Then there are things like Helium and Urea that are a growing problem too. There was an onion layered set of expiration dates on the closing of Hormuz, and we are peeling the onion now.

It is said there is significant support for the regime.

In Iraq we had an election, it was boycotted by a major faction.

Factions went to war with each other.

Lebanon was a stable democracy at one point.

I just don;'t see Iran stabilizing into a decadency.

Over here and in Proper democracy can be tenuous. It is jnder attack over here as we obviously see,.

It is not just Trump, progressive cities an states usurp and defy Congressional authority on immigration

Whether western liberal democracy survives is an open question, let alone Iran.

With Trump our system of checks and balances is failing.

The U.S. has not formally declared a war since 1941. President Truman declared the Korean War not a war at all, but a U.N.-authorized “police action.” Such did Orwellian doublespeak begin to overtake our political rhetoric.

Every war we have been in since then has been clearly unconstitutional, including of course this one.

So no, Trump is not the only violator, but this violation is arguably the most egregious.

Depends on your measure. Afghanistan still takes the cake for me personally. I watched kids grow up, reach adulthood, and enlist to fight in the same war as their fathers, all without Congressional approval, or any clear goal. At least 70,000 civilians murdered. And for what? It ended with our unconditional surrender, as it was always destined to do. This one will too. There is no other possible outcome.

And when did TruthSocial become official communication anyway?

When the President publicly communicates policy on any platform, including Truth Social, those statements carry the weight of U.S. policy whether or not they’re issued through formal channels.

Well, the President has authorized a variety of military actions without a declaration of war since 1789. Korea was not the first by any means.

Korea and the first Gulf War were both authorized by the United Nations. Afghanistan too, IIRC.

The second gulf war famously fell flat at the UN. Powell was almost humiliated. W ignored them anyways and paid the price.

The price of re-election?

The GOP and W would only pay the price in '06 and '08. They'd be given back power swiftly after the President of the United States tried to expand access to health care.

article said:
Asked why Iranians would want him to follow up on his threat to blow up the country’s infrastructure, Trump says everyday citizens are “willing to suffer ... in order to have freedom.”

“‘Please keep bombing. Do it,’” Trump claimed U.S. officials have heard Iranians say via “intercepts.”
link Not certain if he is emoting sexual relations he has with women.

He lies about every detail of everything in his life.

"Trump" posting again on Truth Social. Sounds again like someone else. I'm not big on CT's but "Trump's" tone in the messages are clearpy different.
Seen on another forum: "There are Diplomatic Side Channels, and Diplomatic Back Channels - but this appears to be a Diplomatic Backside Channel".

A little research shows that Congress has declared war 11 times. This is not to say that all the declarations were wise; the war against Mexico in the 1840s was particularly reprehensible. But it was constitutional.

I stand corrected on one point: the last official declarations of war were not in 1941, but in 1942, against Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania, all Nazi allies at the time.

U.N. authorization of war does not supersede the U.S. constitution, a point made by any number of people at the time of Korea.

There was no congressional declaration of war during the Civil War, because it was deemed that that there was no one to declare war against. Lincoln and his allies held that the Confedracy was not a separate country, so the whole war was considered the suppression of an insurrection.

Of course throughout the 19th century the U.S. waged numerous undeclared wars against native Americans, who were also held not to constitute a separate nation or nations but regarded simply as inferior barbarians interfering with the glorious national project of Manifest Destiny.

I heard rumors the stuff on his hand and neck spread and he ended up in Walter Reed. Maybe he's been replaced by one of Melania's AI robots?
