Yet another war, this time with Iran

I couldn't post the link to the rest of the article, but this following came out about an hour ago.

Trump: Operation to go 4-5 weeks — or ‘far longer than that’

Speaking in the White House’s East Room, President Donald Trump said the U.S. military projected that the operation in Iran could take four to five weeks but has “the capability to go far longer than that.”
“I don’t get bored,” Trump said. “There’s nothing boring about this.”

This will not end well, but I think we already knew that. At least nobody seems to be talking about the Epstein files today.
Trump just keeps on surprising me with just how fucking stupid he is. I don't have the bar high. In fact, it is laying on the floor in the basement. And then I need to go downstairs and cut out the concrete slab and dig a bit into the soil to lower the bar... and then continue to lower the bar.

“I don’t get bored,” Trump said. “There’s nothing boring about this.”
Stupid and crazy. Why the fuck would anyone with half a functioning brain say some of the things he does?

Cuz he does not have half a functioning brain?
That was what I way implying. I'm going to share more information, but sometimes WaPo asks for personal information, so I'll copy enough to shoe more of what's going on.

The U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran and wide-scale Iranian reprisals expanded Monday as the United States pledged to send more troops to the region. The U.S. military expects to endure additional casualties in its operation, Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Caine said in a rare on-camera news briefing, adding that accomplishing objectives will take “some time” and, “in some cases, will be difficult and gritty work.” The briefing, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, came after U.S. Central Command reported that a fourth U.S. service member had died of injuries suffered in Iran’s initial retaliatory salvos over the weekend. Earlier Monday, Centcom said that three U.S. fighter jets were mistakenly shot down overnight by Kuwaitamid active combat but that all six crew members safely ejected. As the war entered its third day, Iran continued its attacks on several Persian Gulf states. Lebanon’s Hezbollah responded to the killing of Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei with rocket and drone attacks on Israel, prompting Israeli strikes in the suburbs of Beirut and other strongholds of the Iran-backed group.

  • U.S. service members killed: Another U.S. service member died Monday of injuries suffered in the initial Iranian attacks, U.S. Central Command said, bringing to four the total number of American forces killed. Two U.S. officials had told The Washington Post that the three previous fatalities were members of a sustainment unit in Kuwait.
  • Interim leadership in Iran: Iran announced Sunday that an interim leadership council was in place after the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iran faces an opaque, fraught process — one complicated by the deaths of many senior officials in the initial attack and the ongoing war — to select a new leader.
  • Iran reports more than 500 dead: Iran’s state broadcaster reported 555 killed in the ongoing airstrikes by the U.S. and Israel, citing figures from the Iranian Red Crescent Society. The Post could not independently verify the toll. The U.S. said Monday it has truck more than 1,000 targets in Iran, and Israel said it had struck more than 600.
  • Strikes across the region: In addition to Israel, eight other countries have reported attacks by Iran: Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

They are talking about possibly sending ground troups and while the idiots keep saying it will be over soon, they also say it might go on for a long time. Will this lead to WWIII? I don't currently know anyone who is in the military currently, but a dear neighbor of mine, has severe PTSD from the Iraq War so he's quite upset about this.

I think Kuwait shot down more US planes than Iran did. Is Iran even using their air force? And shouldn't those US fighter jets have the capability to evade that ground fire? I could see losing one, but three? To a minor league military like Kuwait's?

What a clusterfark.
The Kuwaitis were using US built Patriot missiles, so it was an all-American clusterfark.
I could see Hegseth telling them to shoot down those old F-15s so he could buy some shiny new F-35s.

The "Left" online mediascape is pushing a stupid argument about this whole thing being intended as a distraction from the Epstein files. Which is stupid, wars are not started by individuals, they are fought for capital by capital. I don't think even they truly believe it, they just want to oppose Trump as a person without opposing the war itself in strong terms. Deep down in their souls, Democrats and Republicans share the same sick lust for the spilling of foreign blood in exchange for oil money, as they always have and always will as long as it keeps bringing returns. You don't shit on your own dividends. And they fully intend to continue to prosecute this war further if a Democrat takes office in 2030. They may even purposefully escalate it just to prove they're willing to, as Obama did to Iraq and Afghanistan when he took office. I guarantee you that if this actually comes to the floor of the Congress, both Parties will happily agree to the war. Most US Senators and House Representatives see dead men and women and kids and goats overseas as one factor in an investment strategy, not a true moral question at all.

Trump has yet to try to explain to the American people, to congress or the world why we would want the US to go to war against Iran. And I've been sitting here asking myself why he did this. Iran was not an imminent threat.

But the NYT has a pretty long story on how Trump decided and the biggest factor is that Netanyahu wanted him to go to war.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel walked into the Oval Office on the morning of Feb. 11, determined to keep the American president on the path to war.

...

But behind the scenes, his move toward war grew inexorably, fueled by allies like Mr. Netanyahu who pushed the president to strike a decisive blow against Iran’s theocratic government; and by Mr. Trump’s own confidence after the successful U.S. operation that toppled the Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro in January.

Netanyahu wanted to keep attacking Iran and Netanyahu wanted the US to do it to.

In the briefing, Mr. Rubio argued that, no matter if Israel or the United States struck first, Iran would respond with a powerful barrage of weapons against U.S. bases and embassies. It was logical then, Mr. Rubio said, that the United States should act in concert with Israel, since America would be dragged in anyway. And Israel, Mr. Rubio said, was determined to act.

This logic sat poorly with some Democrats, who thought the Trump administration was letting Mr. Netanyahu dictate American policy — and was making a circular argument that the United States had to attack because its military buildup could prompt Iran to strike.

So Iran has effectively closed the Straits of Hormuz. I'm sure this will have no impact on oil prices whatsoever. QOTD:

Last year, Iran’s retaliatory strikes were “limited” and “very telegraphed,” he said. This time, the scope and intensity have been broader, adding, “This is a totally different world from what the market was anticipating.”

Like I said, we are being led by morons who in turn are being led by morons. Fucking idiots.

The U.S. is now a kakistocracy, a kleptocracy and an oligarchy all rolled into one great pile of dung.

Well, at least that broad Harris wasn't elected.

France is to boost its nuclear arsenal and extend the deterrent to cover other European countries, in a major development of its nuclear defence policy.

In a speech in Brittany, President Emmanuel Macron explained the changes as the response to an increasingly unstable strategic environment.

"The next 50 years will be an era of nuclear weapons," he said.

Speaking to naval officers in front of a nuclear submarine at the Ile Longue base near the port of Brest, he said the number of French nuclear warheads would be increased from their current level of around 300.

He announced the launch in 2036 of a new nuclear-armed submarine to be called The Invincible.
Egg prices helping lead to the end of stability in the West.

That’s pretty much it, right? Is the whole world an Onion satire?

“The price of eggs is too high, so I am going to vote for a convicted felon who tried to overthrow the government.”

So, I had a post about how Trump's Iran war with the straits being closed was going to fuck European supply lines on into the future, mostly because I confused the straits of Hormuz with the Suez canal.

But apparently the proximity there and the Houthi pirate solidarity with Iran has materialized as a liability too great for shipping to return to the Suez for many carriers, and so the effect has been the same: the Suez effectively remains closed.

What a clusterfark.
US should obviously attack Kuwait.

But you did not call it out when US started proxy war with Russia.
That's because things that exist only in your imagination don't concern other people at all.
Not just my imagination. Rubio agrees with me. US think tanks agree with me.
Fools seldom differ
He is a fool, no doubt about it. But he blurted what not-fools who control him are talking.
And what about other people? (Jeffrey Sachs, Mearseheimer, tons of commentators, ukrainian government itself ) they are all fools?
Everybody is a fool except CNN and MSNBC, right?
And Lindsey too, is not a fool, right? Lindsey fucking Graham!
Rubio is a fucking moron.
I guess Graham is not. good to know.

Speaking of the onion

Anyway, so far, US is wining militarily, there can't be any doubt about that. Iranians demonstrated utter incompetence once again.
86 year-old Ayatollah decided to go down with a bang and took top military commanders with him and it looks like they were OK with it.
The only hope is that Iran still have enough fire power left to actually organize some response.
