Yet another war, this time with Iran

Trump is a fucking baby

President Trump on Monday disparaged U.S. allies that he said had relied too long — and too expensively — on American defense, as several of those countries have declined to meet his call to send warships to escort merchant vessels in and out of the Persian Gulf.

“We don’t need anybody; we’re the strongest nation in the world,” Mr. Trump said. He suggested his request for assistance in reopening the Strait of Hormuz instead amounted to a loyalty test of America’s allies. “I’m almost doing it in some cases not because we need them but because I want to find out how they react,” he said.

Referring to countries that have rebuffed, or reacted coolly, to his appeal for ships, Mr. Trump said he had long believed that “if we ever needed help, they won’t be there for us,” and they were proving his point. He added, “You mean for 40 years we’re protecting you and you don’t want to get involved in something that’s very minor?” noting that Europe, Japan and others depend on oil from the Persian Gulf far more than the United States does.

Even so, Mr. Trump said that “numerous countries have told me that they’re on the way.” But asked to name them, he replied, “I’d rather not say yet, but we’ll be announcing them.”

...

Our allies did help on various other self-initiated wars. They ended up learning they were duped in Iraq.

And Trump has been threatening Europe over Greenland.

Trump started this war on Iran. Why would these countries want to help when, as I posted earlier, a military approach to opening up the Strait is almost doomed to fail.
NATO Article 5 (the article that says an attack in any member will be responded to as an attack on all, and so requiring member states to act to defend each other, if attacked) has only been invoked once.

On that occasion, every NATO member (along with a number of non-NATO nations) immediately agreed to provide whatever assistance they could to the NATO member state that had been attacked.

That was on the 11th of September, 2001.

When you needed help, we were there for you. That doesn't mean we will blindly back any stupid beligerence you choose to blunder into.
That doesn’t count because Trump wasn’t President then. 9/11 was Joe Biden’s fault.

Trump demands help from countries that he had shaken down gangster style.

Welp. What's next? Like stink on shit, Iran is going to stick to Trump like, well Epstein. Operation Epic Fuck Up looks to be coming into its own, doesn't it?
So, does Trump fire Hegseth, trying to put the blame on him? Not that Iran is going anywhere. You can't fire Iran, Numbnuts.
I see in Reuters, the Gulf states that are taking hits from Iran are telling Trump he's in for a pound now. If he leaves Iran as is, Iran can just keep doing what it's doing. They are the troll under the Hormuz bridge. Iran can let pass through the strait what they want and stop others. Everyone knew it but Numbnuts. Trump will lose the Gulf states if he just walks away with some bullshit mission accomplished statement. Iran will press for our Gulf buddies to distance themselves from the US.

No coalition is coming to help from the nations we used to call friends. It was so fucking obvious not to do this. Tell me this isn't just like Putin rolling into Kyiv for a two week special military operation. It's worse. Putin and the world thought Russia had a real shot at taking Ukraine. Nothing in Trump's special military operation is a surprise. Not the Iranian drones. Not the preparation within Iran for The Great Satan. Not Iran's stranglehold on the strait.

Maybe go pick on Cuba. Fire Hegseth and go pick on Cuba. Fire Hegseth, control the media, and go pick on Cuba.

What a fucking whiny bitch.

Come on! It is just a very minor *air quotes* kill box.

He's been whining that USA has been taking the main load in Ukraine. So now Europe has stepped up. Now he's whining that Europe is busy in Ukraine

Trump is such an idiot

I don't think this will backfire for Trump. Attacking Iran is good no matter what perspective we take apart from the Ayatollah's. Expat Iranians are cheering the attacks.

Cutting off the straights of Hormuz is diplomatic suicide for Iran, pissing off the neighbours (not at war with Iran).

But the timing could have been better chosen. The war in Ukraine should perhaps be a priority above starting a new war.

Fuck the Ayatollah's evil and corrupt regime

Wow, that post is clueless.

Gratitude has a short half-life or shelf life.
Gratitude?

Trump has been dissing our allies and talking shit about them, imposing stupid tariffs on them from the start. Now he's done something completely stupid and he wants their help to bail him out of the predicament he's gotten us all into. Of course they are telling him to fuck off. Loyalty is a two way street. Trump doesn't understand that. He's been a spoiled brat who has never had to be responsible for the shit he does since he was a child and now its biting him in his ass.
Biby was referring particularly to Sept. 2001. I was responding to that particular incident. IIRC Trump was not president then nor for quite a few years to come.

Evil and corrupt doesn't make it conquerable. And how many Ayatollah's before Hormuz is scorch earthed?

The Trumo Admin has zero idea what they are doing with Iran. It looks like they thought they found a war cheat code via Venezuela.

I don’t know what the end game is though. At least I can’t see it yet. The Iranian regime doesn’t look to be near collapse anytime soon and appears to be quite capable of controlling the shipping in the strait.

I swear, if President Obama was in charge and trying to overthrow the Iranian regime, we'd be getting the "nation building" speech from our in-house "Liberal". You can't just go around changing governments, it doesn't work that way. Just because you don't like the leader doesn't mean there won't be negative consequences.

Good to see Europe is holding fast against Trump.

He ha no one he can blame. The Trump admin propaganda is in full swing. Media is not reporting the real story. I remember the VN War propaganda.

Trump publicly insulted Europe and its milt6ray. We will no longer 'bail out' Europe. Her said Ukraine was not our problem.

Now he appear genuinely puzzled that nobody returns his phone calls to Europe.

The Iranian opposition is making a fatal mistake if they act thinking Trump will come to theirr aid.

By the way, am I right that our President is using social media to solicit allies? Any minute I expect to hear he's on Yubo, asking the UK to swipe right. This is truly the American Age of the Shithead King.

Not only does Trump constantly mock our allies; but he also keeps punishing them with tariffs! What the hell does he expect?

On a side note, Trump and the idiots he's appointed don't seem to understand that if Europe didn't need the U.S. for military support that it would hurt the U.S. and economy and the ability to power project. These are basic issues learned in a freshman year political science course. I do believe Europe needs to get its respective fighting capabilities up to date and spend more of their own money on their defense, but alienating them is folly that even the worst alternative fiction author wouldn't have made up.

As others have pointed out, it was more than predictable that Iran would bottle up the Strait of Hormuz because that's the only leverage they have. I haven't the slightest sympathy for Iranian leadership, but Iran's strategy was as close to a fact as you can get without being a yet-materialized event (that's now materialized).

There's no "winning" this "war" without a massive ground attack, which obviously Trumpco has no intention of doing. So we'll decapitate current leadership and leave the Iranian people to suffer reprisals and a severely damaged infrastructure. It makes Dubbya's invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq look like a well planned and well thought out endeavor.

The Iranian regime has been on the verge of collapse the last 10 years. Iranians keep thinking "this must surely be it" but it keeps going.

Who knows. Its bizarre that a regime so hated within and without, while also being a dysfunctional and preposterously corrupt shit show of a nation, with a collapsed economy, manages to cling to power.

It reminds me of USSR towards the end. That's the level of dysfunction.

Regimes like this tend to end on something unexpected. Some functionary misreading a situation or misinterpretting an order. Then it all just falls apart.

it's also funny if you know Islamic history. Islam has a universialist and egalitarian creed. The Islamic world kept having revolutions against corrupt and nepotistic Caliphs. The new caliph, who promises change, invariably goes back on their promises, executes the other revolutionaries and becomes the next installment of a corrupt caliph. This happened the moment Mohammed died, and never stopped. There is no example of it not happening. 1400 years of this shit. Anyway, in 1979 the Iranian people thought, "this time it'll be diiferent". It wasn't

Hard-liner connected to extremists that Trump named Director of the National Counterterrorism Center resigns because he "cannot in good conscience" back the Trump Admin and their allegations regarding the threat from Iran.

Even the hand picked zealots the Trump Admin installed in the Executive are raising objections to the claims being made by Trump.

They cling to power by murdering civilians who step out and question their leadership or right to lead.

You new to this?

The term Muslim Brotherhood is indeed an oxymoron.

And meanwhile, while Trump and Bibi continue misjudging their actions in Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan are becoming problematic. Of course, this predates the military aggression we are seeing now against Iran. But still in the region.
