Your Favorite Music Albums No One's Ever Heard Of

Hand.Cannot.Erase - Steven Wilson

Fear of the Blank Planet - Porcupine Tree

Clutch - Pure Rock Fury

Clutch is finally getting some recognition, and starting to do some big festivals and tours, but I could easily substitute one of about seven other Clutch albums for Pure Rock Fury. They are the hardest working band in rock music today, and the best live band in the universe to boot.

I will also second Porcupine Tree's Fear of a Blank Planet. I haven't picked up Hand.Cannot.Erase yet, Jimmy, but I am planning to order it from Amazon tomorrow.

I've hear OF Clutch but never heard any of their music. I'll have to check it out. And the other suggestions too.

Dimension Hatross by Voivod

Voivod were the artmetal darlings of the underground scene (the same scene that created speed metal, thrash metal, death metal, etc.). We tend to think of concept albums as a conceit of prog rock, but here is an exception. In proper Voivod fashion, the story told by the album is bizarre, insane, and makes very little sense.

Awesome album!

The Voivod album that preceded it, Killing Technology is also very good, and listening to it you can hear a progression from their heavily punk influenced first two albums. The follow up effort, Nothingface is also very good, and sounds very much the same. Much of the rest of their discography can be safely ignored, and is all over the map stylistically. Jason Newstead joined the band after leaving Metallica, for one album, which was self titled. They tried to reach a more mainstream rock audience with that one, and it isn't terrible. Their guitarist and founding member, Piggy died soon after that, but I heard that some of his unreleased material made it onto later albums. I have not heard any of the albums they put out after Piggy died, but see that there are quite a few. I may have to give some of their newer material a listen.

Hand.Cannot.Erase - Steven Wilson

Finally got a chance to listen to some of this on youtube. Quite the eclectic mix. Next time I'm out, I'm going to pick this one up.

This is the reason I started this thread, exposure of hidden gems. Thanks Jimmy.
