Of course, "peaceful" protesters descended onto the scene right away and responded by throwing bricks and a firework at the police at a gas station (merely stupid or an attempt to blow up the gas station?)

Four people were arrested for assaulting officers, and at least one officer was injured when he tried to get away from some sort of firework device set off on the parking lot, Belmar said. Protesters also threw some bricks at officers, Belmar said. Police used pepper spray on the crowd but did not use any tear gas, the chief said. He also said several police cars were damaged, and some protesters brought bags of rocks to the scene.

This is a tragic story, but it's also a hopeful story. This is the way we should expect all police to respond, regardless of the color of the perpetrator or the validity of the threat. Nashville Metro Police - hardly a bastion of ideal policing - managed to give the nation an example of what it really means to "protect and serve" the public.

Cops need better Tazer training. Perhaps a self correcting focus (aiming mechanism) like we find on modern camera phones.

Why is this so hard for you to understand?

When an armed white person points a gun at the police, he is much less likely to get shot.

When an unarmed white person is in a confrontation with police, he is much less likely to get shot.

When an unarmed white person runs around with a toy gun and does nothing threatening, he is much less likely to get shot.

I don't see anything in any of those links that reports the data you claimed: number of police encounters with whites having a gun, and rate of shooting in these encounters vs the same for blacks (what percent of such gun encounters results in police shooting in white vs black cases?), as well as the number of incidents of toy gun encounters and unarmed encounters. Can you kindly point it out?

Did you actually read the link to the Bureau of Justice Statistics? I ask because you accuse Derec of being lazy, but that report seems to have no relevance to the proposition you are advancing. If there is a specific part of that report you feel aids your cause, let us know.

And the Propublica review simply found that blacks of a certain age were statistically more likely to be shot than there white peers. That's it. No other conclusions drawn. If you observe that blacks are more likely to live in high crime areas, that makes since. If you bury you head in the ground and ignore reality, I suppose your imagination could run wild.
