The right-wing provocateur failed to appear at a hearing in an Austin district court Friday. Jones is facing yet another defamation case brought by Sandy Hook parents over his repeated claims that the 2012 school shooting never happened.

Alex Jones, Austin-based founder of the far-right conspiracy-driven media company Infowars, failed to show up Friday for a hearing in the latest ongoing defamation lawsuit brought by Sandy Hook parents against Jones.

Friday's was the only pre-trial hearing in a lawsuit brought by Sandy Hook parents Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, whose six-year-old son Jesse was killed by the Sandy Hook gunman. Their case was originally filed in 2018. Since then, Jones has "intentionally disobeyed the court’s order” by refusing to hand over documents in compliance with the discovery process, Judge Guerra Gamble wrote in a court order last year.

Attorneys for Heslin and Lewis say Jones' no-show in an Austin court on Friday is just the latest example of the right-wing provocateur's ongoing "lack of respect for the discovery process."

The parent of far-right conspiracy website InfoWars filed for U.S. bankruptcy protection on Friday as the company and its founder Alex Jones face up to $150 million in damages in a trial over longstanding falsehoods he perpetuated about the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre.

July 29 (Reuters) - The parent of far-right conspiracy website InfoWars filed for U.S. bankruptcy protection on Friday as the company and its founder Alex Jones face up to $150 million in damages in a trial over longstanding falsehoods he perpetuated about the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre.

The bankruptcy filing by the InfoWars parent, Free Speech Systems LLC, would normally result in the trial and related litigation being halted. But Free Speech plans to ask a bankruptcy judge to allow the trial currently underway in Texas to continue and is seeking an emergency hearing on Monday, according to a court filing.

In Connecticut court documents dated Friday, Infowars host Alex Jones sued his own media company in what his opponents have characterized as yet another last-ditch attempt to stall an upcoming defamation damages trial.

A collection of plaintiffs have sued Jones and several Jones-associated companies for defamation and other torts in both Texas and Connecticut in connection with statements about the Dec. 14, 2012 Sandy Hook school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut. After years of discovery delays and other violations by the defendants, judges in both the Lone Star State and the Constitution State entered a legally rare default judgment against Jones; however, juries have been seated in Texas and will be empaneled in Connecticut next month to ascertain the extent of damages suffered — if any — by the families of the Sandy Hook victims. Jones is currently on trial in Texas to assess damages there; testimony in Connecticut is scheduled to begin in early September after jury selection in August.

The ticking clock in Connecticut appears to have spurred Jones to sue Free Speech Systems, his own media company, according to a filing dated Friday.

“Alex Emric Jones, a defendant in this action, is employed by the co-defendant Free Speech Systems,” the document says. “Free Speech Systems has promised and guaranteed to indemnify and hold harmless Alex Emric Jones from any damages or other costs which may be assessed or entered against him in this litigation.”

Tomorrow, Alex Jones will be in court for his trial. It will be streamed for the two of you out there interested. Today's proceedings, Jones lawyer told several blatant lies and the judge spent 30 minutes reaming his sorry ass. Alex Jones left the court for the day cussing. It took 10 years to get to the point that will go down in court tomorrow. The judge gave very careful orders to prevent Jones and his lawyers from turning tomorrow's activities into a circus.
 
Jones testified today, he was his usual garbage human self.
