The Race For 2024

One name that doesn't appear on most of these lists is Gretchen Whitmer. I hereby throw her hat into the ring, and direct my delegates to support her!

Whitmer is of course the Governor of Michigan whom MAGAites conspired to assassinate.

She is smart of course. Like Kamala Harris she is a former prosecutor. But she is seven years younger than Kamala, more charismatic I think, and -- yes, it DOES matter -- more photogenic.

The GOPlins and hate-drenched racists are unlikely to come to their senses, but if they do they'll push for Nikki Haley. Will the D's need to put forth a female of their own? I'm afraid Haley wins in a Haley-Harris contest.

She already said that she won't run for president.

What are her accomplishments as Michigan Governor that you like (other than being photogenic or charismatic?)

We already know who will be the three major parties contesting in the 2024 Presidential Election; and almost what the order of finish will be.
(A) The Party of Americans Too Apathetic to vote.
(B) The Party of Racists, Liars, Stupid People and the Rich Super-Polluters.
(C) The Party of Rational Thought and Humanitarian Values.

(A) The Party of Apathy -- dominated by the young -- will win in a landslide; but under the rules will get no electoral votes.
(B) The Party of Lying and Hatreds -- dominated by old white men -- will probably finish with the fewest popular votes of the three major parties, but due to the happenstance of present-day Electoral College set-up will end up in a VERY close race with
(C) The Party of Rational Thinkers. This Party -- whose largest bloc is women not named Karen -- is often its own worst enemy, focusing on irrelevant issues like "Who would make a good President."

Don't know. Don't care. The three most important criteria for the nomination are Electability, Electability, and ... Electability.

Is there some flaw in her resume? If there were, Tucker Carlson, Alex Jones and Donnie Junior would have been braying it out on FoxNews or Social Media for years. I've not noticed that, but Googling "Is Gretchen Whitmer a witch or a bitch?" will turn up half a million hits. Search through them and tell us what you think.

Is there a "Willie Horton" tucked away in her closet? Doesn't matter. In 1988 when Willie Horton helped defeat Dukakis, Facebook didn't even exist! Facts still mattered. Today the GOPlins and Haters and their Kremlin allies won't even bother with actual closet skeletons. They'll just deluge the cables and blogs with loathsome fictions. Our hope is that Americans are finally getting sick of the lies, but it's a long-shot.

Well thanks for the rambling non-answer. When I was a kid, women frequently lamented that it was tough them for them to be taken seriously in politics because people (mostly the male chauvanist pigs) were more focused on (metaphoically speaking) "how well a woman fills out her bra, than how well she fills out her resume". I'm thinking they were not wrong.

As though American voters ever cared about a person's qualifications for the presidency! :D

I don't know why Nikki Haley thinks she has a chance.
Because she can bridge the gap with moderates (ie people that don't pay attention to politics and think she is moderate). Look at her political savvy! She was the only politician to serve under Trump and come out looking better than going it. If this were 2016 and she was facing Clinton, she could have won. But the GOP has just gone bonkers and her chance to win the nomination seems gone. Politics are fickle like that. Definitely see her as a VP nominee though.

GOP moderates? All 3 of them?🙄
I think you’re right; she missed her moment. Surviving serving in the Trump junta doesn’t appeal to Trumpsuckers, nor to anyone opposed to Trumpism. Maybe a few months on the campaign trail can raise her profile, but to what end totally escapes me.

Polling at about 1%, Nikki Haley is political road kill. She has little chance of support from big money donors. Or massive numbers of small donors. She does not have well thought out programs that excite voters she is articulating. She has no large cadre of surrogates, or competent advisors who can help her craft amazing and wonderful policies and plans. She is not entertaining. Road kill for sure.

Well thanks for the rambling non-answer.

You're welcome! If I were hired as a political consultant I'd spend hours researching your question. Instead my actual To-Do List more than drowns the 24 hours in a day.

I did offer Google terms if your interest in the answer to your question is sincere.

Since you pretend to imagine how I feel, despite my own words in contradiction; and impugn bad motives to someone you perceive as political enemy, I'm guessing you usually adhere to the Republicans. What do I win?

I'd vote for the D nominee no matter what, so details will have no effect on my November ballot. How about you? You'd vote for Boebert if she's the R nominee, but not MTG? Or vice versa?

That's good news, since I think Haley would have much better chance with sane Republicans -- the group that will decide the election. It's hard to see how anyone who values their intelligence would vote for Ron DeSanctimonious or the Tangerine man.

I'd advise Ds to support T****, perhaps re-registering to vote for him in the Primaries. This would split the Party and guarantee D victory in November.

But that's the advice I offered in 2016 and look how well that worked!

I would issue that same advice if the eventual nomination was ever in question.

I don't think your words contradict what I said and don't require me to do any imagining. You liked her "charisma" and "photogenic" look. You said you don't know or care about any of her accomplishments or even bothered looking them up. How am I wrong in characterizing you? Though, I will give you credit for waiting until after "International Women's Day" (yesterday) to make your sexist viewpoints known to the world. Well done, sir! :ROFLMAO:

And no I don't "adhere to Republicans".

She has one job and one job only: ceding the floor to Papa Trump at the appropriate moment.

Beave: I really respect your opinion. I'm a moderate also (maybe a little to your left). I've probably voted for more republicans in my life than dems. Quite honestly, there wasn't much of a difference between the parties. I voted for Biden, but i was kinda like "meh". But I have to say that the difference today between the two parties today are stunning and extreme. Biden is desperately trying to shore up our alliances to stop the war in Ukraine and prevent war in Asia. He's putting together a budget that will lower the deficit through reasonable tax increases and cuts. He's trying to save our international supply chain which will be further wrecked if China attacks. The dems are pursuing reasonable environmental policies. They are trying to find ways to mitigate the water crisis (which is dire). They are trying to fight to protect women's bodily sovereignty. Restoring election confidence.

What are the republican priorities today? Tell me if you disagree, but it seems to me that their priority today from highest to lowest is: 1) lowering the deficit through smoke and mirrors (not increasing the ceiling which will increase the deficit and hurt American credit rating; 2) attacking the meanies at Disney; 3) investigating Hunter's laptop; 4) attacking woke meanies; 5) not sure.

I recognize that we have a lot of problems today. But to me, the choice is pretty dang clear whom I will vote for.

No.

Their priorities are attacking anything other than the "perfect" conservative state they envision.

Things like the laptop are a means, not an objective.

As southernhybrid said, she already said she was not running.

She is smart of course.
What in particular makes you say that? I am not disputing it, just seeking some examples that illustrate her intelligence.

Like Kamala Harris she is a former prosecutor.
For all of six months.

One thing I really dislike Whitmer is her boneheaded opposition to the Line 5 pipeline. Also, hard to take somebody named "Gretchen" seriously.

But she is seven years younger than Kamala, more charismatic I think, and -- yes, it DOES matter -- more photogenic.
It certainly does not hurt that she is good looking. Before somebody accuses me of rank sexism, physical attractiveness matters for male politicians too. It helped elect the likes of JFK, Clinton and Obama.

Will the D's need to put forth a female of their own? I'm afraid Haley wins in a Haley-Harris contest.
Haley is highly unlikely to win the nomination. But even a meatball like RdS is beating Harris handily.

At this point, a Democratic politician saying that he or she will not run for President means very little. To answer yes to that question would immediately make that politician the focus of the normal media circus surrounding presidential wannabes, and she still has a full time job as governor of Michigan. Since Biden is refusing to cede the nomination to a younger, more energetic candidate, the chances of any Democrat of shoving him aside for the nomination are slim. I wish that he would step aside, and maybe he will at some point this year. However, doing so would immediately make him a lame duck president. So the chances are that Biden won't step aside in the near future, and potential rivals for the nomination won't step forward.
