Three police officers couldn't wrangle a mom of three;

Police in upstate New York fatally shot a woman dead inside of her home after she pulled a knife on them in April 2022, newly released video shows. The incident occurred in the town of Hyde Park, around 90 miles north of New York City, and involved officers from the town's police force as well as state police. The officers were responding to a domestic dispute call at the home that Jamie Feith, 34, shared with her partner and their three children. The shocking video begins with an officer escorting Feith, who has marks on her face, out of a room in the house. Shortly after leaving the room, Feith appears to produce something from her pants. The officers begin shouting: 'Knife!' repeatedly and issuing a radio call: '911, send an additional, we've got one at gunpoint.' A brief struggle ensues with Feith's partner screaming: 'Don't shoot her!' When the officers tackle Feith, she eventually manages to wrangle free. At that point, a stun gun is deployed which does not subdue her. A voice can be heard saying: 'Shoot her,' Kemlage then fires twice. 'Don't f*****g shoot her,' Feith's partner says, two more shots are then heard. He then says: 'No. No. No. No. What the f***?' The entire struggle and shooting took place over a period of 20 seconds. Feith was shot in the chest. When one of the officers removes the knife from the woman's hand, her partner says: 'Get off of her. Get off of her.' He then pleads for the officers not to kill him. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Trying to wrangle a person with a knife, esp. one that may be on something, due to tasers being ineffective, is a recipe for getting stabbed. I can't fault the police here.

No. But if I had two burly friends backing me up against a 110lb female, I’d fancy my chances or I’d run. But in the video it doesn’t look like she was actually trying to stab anyone.

But then, I am used to professional and well trained police who don't resile from the risk of personal injury in order to protect the public (even when the member of the public in question is resisting arrest) and who treat the use of their firearms as a last resort.

I guess if you're used to having trigger-happy pretend cops, with little training, and low expectations of their professionalism, you should expect them to just shoot people dead rather than doing their jobs.

If you don't want to risk injury in the course of your job, don't get a job where a risk of injury is ever present.

Policing isn't inherently safe, and trying to avoid all personal risk as a police officer means not doing your job properly, just as it would for a firefighter or a soldier.

I recall from a few years back in the NYT an account of a US woman who moved to Ghana. She said that while she had to suffer from electricity outages, she did not fear being killed by the cops there. I grew up in Philadelphia and then New York. I went to Howard, which is a historically black university. I tell people that Ghana is like Howard in real life. It felt like a microcosm of the world. At university, they tell us the world isn’t black, but there are places where this is the real world. Howard prepares you for a world where black people are in charge, which is a completely different experience compared to people who have gone to predominantly white universities.

In other words, this Muhammida is a racist who doesn't like white people, loved it that there weren't any of us at Howard, and sought a life where she would not encounter too many white people.

The per-capita GDP is also very low, about $2k. For those expats who are not racists like MeM, they probably have savings and figured out their dollar goes a lot further in a poor country like Ghana.
