Police Misconduct Catch All Thread

If you think shooting somebody charging at you with a knife is "summarily executing" them, then you need to review what English words mean.
No actually, you do. Specifically the word "training". It's pretty obvious you have no fucking clue what "context" means either but baby steps, I suppose.

I know full well what these words mean. Swing and a miss, Patooka.

No. But if I had two burly friends backing me up against a 110lb female, I’d fancy my chances or I’d run.
She lost 10 lbs somehow? You said 120lbs before. No matter. 110lbs should have enough upper body strength to swing a knife and do some real damage. Turning to run away just exposes your back to getting stabbed. Not smart.

110/120lb whatever, I still say the risk of her doing any damage against any one of those cops was slight.

But in the video it doesn’t look like she was actually trying to stab anyone.
It certainly looks that way to me. She charged the cop with the body cam directly.

Be honest: would you think this was a bad shoot if the perp was a male with similar build and not a (rather attractive) woman? I think you are just being overly chivalrous.

Yes I would actually. To start blasting at the sight of a knife is ridiculous.

Thank you for making my point. People subdue knife wielding persons all the time -
That does not mean it is possible to do so in all cases without incurring undue risk.
Note that in the case we are discussing here, the perp was initially subdued, but then she broke free and directly charged the officer with a knife.
I presented some instances - there are literally dozens more.
, but it should not be the knee jerk default option for the police to kill first and then ask questions.
It is not default though. It's not like they shot her as soon as they encountered her.
It is the default defense.
If the officers do not have the necessary will, patience and courage to do their job, then they should not be police. It really is that simple.
Police officers understand that policing comes with a level of risk.
Apparently not - given the number of appalling cases involving the police. The deaths of Tamir Rice and George Floyd are not that long ago. And those are just the tip of that "iceberg".

They are not expected to incur unreasonable levels of risk just to protect perps attacking them. And neither should they be.
Your definition of "unreasonable" is unreasonable.

These cases are so depressing. I'm glad the child survived:

An unarmed 11-year-old Black boy in Mississippi was shot by a police officer after he called 911 to report a domestic disturbance to try to protect his mother, his family’s attorney said.
The family of Aderrien Murry and the community in Indianola, Miss., are calling for the officer who shot him early Saturday morning to be fired. Aderrien was released from the hospital Wednesday after being placed on a ventilator and chest tube for a collapsed lung, fractured ribs and lacerated liver, Carlos Moore, the attorney representing the family, told The Washington Post.

The boy was given a cellphone by his mother and told to call the police during a domestic disturbance involving the father of another one of her children, Moore said. After the child called 911, an Indianola police officer who was identified by the attorney as Greg Capers “had his gun blazing” upon arrival at the home at around 4 a.m., Moore said.

prick cop:

IMO the only thing that officer should have done was turn the flashing lights on and initiate a traffic stop. If the perp refused to stop just continue to trail with the lights flashing for safety. The clown can only travel but 130 miles on a full tank. Then charge that dumbass with a Second Degree Felony for evading the police, revoke license and put that moped up for auction.

Edit: Assuming the perp did something illegal warranting the cops attention.

Whether or not this officer's gun was "blazing" upon his arrival, there is no valid excuse for his shooting an unarmed 11 year old boy. My guess is that he mistook the cell phone for a weapon - which should not be a valid excuse for his actions. Yes, this officer should, at a minimum, lose the job.

36% of officer shootings appear to be suicide by cop:

20% were unarmed but simulated a weapon. That gives you 7.2% of officer shootings are of unarmed people pretending they were armed. That's most shootings of unarmed people.

1. Your math does not follow
2. You chose a study that specifically examined individuals who intended to be killed by police officers: suicide by cop, which seems to be your favorite excuse for every police shooting of an unarmed person.
3. Are you alleging that an 12 year old boy who, at his mother’s direction, called police to help her as she was being beaten…was attempting suicide by cop?

What's wrong with it?

Look at the numbers--this adds up to most unarmed shootings. And what's wrong with it being a study about suicide by cop? Are you trying to deny it's existence? Shootings of unarmed people keep being presented as evidence of misconduct but the numbers say your first thought should be suicide.

It wasn't in reference to the specific case. I ran into it and this was the closest fit as to where it should go, I didn't feel like starting a separate thread for it.

They can be both. If people regularly fall from a particular bridge, you don't say "it's mostly suicide, so there's no problem with the design of the bridge"; You redesign the damn bridge so it's more difficult to fall from it, whether intentionally or not.

If your cops are so trigger happy that they make a viable option for a suicide attempt, then there's a problem with your cops.

It's not a policeman's job to assist citizens in committing suicide. They need to stop doing that.

It's not a matter of trigger happy--most are pointing real weapons at cops. If the cop doesn't shoot they'll up the ante until the cop does. It's not something the cops can prevent.

...and yet it's almost unheard of outside the USA.

So are Americans uniquely desperate to die? Or what?

Americans are uniquely armed far more than most any other place on Earth.

...and yet it's almost unheard of outside the USA.

You mean, "It's virtually never reported outside the USA."
Correct?
So are Americans uniquely desperate to die? Or what?

Well, Americans are crazy. I can tell you that for a fact.
But you are kinda looking at confirmation bias. Far more Americans commit suicide by sugar than cops. But that's so common it doesn't make the news at all.
