We live in strange times. The divisions on the right are...weird. For example, many on the far right have rushed to the defense of Russell Brand over the accusations of sexual assault. "Well, it's only because he's on the right now! These women are coming forward because he's one of us now! They are doing it again!" (seriously, a now-deleted FB friend who has gone all the way down the Trump rabbit hole said that to me before the unfriending). Who are "they?" Yet yesterday, I saw a story where Megyn Kelly came out against the people smearing these women, calling it a 'knee jerk reaction" and "bullshit." She qualified it a bit, but said it's not a left/right thing and we should take the allegations seriously. Also yesterday, right wing loon Candace Owens said the accusations "look legitimate."
The Freedom Caucus is fighting with what counts as "moderates." Mitch McConnell, who loves gumming up the works for political advantage has come out pretty hard against this impeachment push. Notoriously anti-LGBTQ Lauren Boebert was dancing and singing at a musical theater performance and reaching across the aisle (well, the armrest) to literally stroke off a Democrat.
Strange times indeed.
It can be explained in one very straightforward sentence;

I think they believe in their own superiority. This stems partially from the fact that the orange shit-gibbon has been the head of their party for the last nearly 8 years. Ego was rewarded with power, so what we're seeing now is people with enormously outsized egos attempting to seize power within the party structure. Folks like Gaetz, Bobo, and Marjorie Trailer Queen are riding their notoriety (infamy?) and counting on sheer bluster and audacity. Bobo literally pulled the "do you know who I am?" card at that theater. Gaetz is ensconced in smugness over the fact that he - a relative rookie from Florida - has the Speaker of the House by the short ones. McCarthy wanted power/ego over anything, and he traded everything for it.
Fragilego Mussolini really upended the order of things. The "grown ups" in the room like McConnell (or Ken Buck, to use the above-linked example) are realizing that feeding egos and letting them run the show is fun in the moment, but a disaster long term. It's a bit like a crime family a-la The Godfather. The Corleone family was losing status and power because the old Don was fading and unwilling to change with the times. Michael came in - cold and calculating like his father once was - and righted the ship. What we're seeing now with the GOP is like what would have happened to the family if Sonny was put in charge. Brash, loud, ready to get into a fight with any comers, but with no long term plan other than "badda boom, badda bing."
The few people in the Republican Party who remember the "old times" see where this leads, but they appear powerless to stop the Sonny's in their party from going out into the street and beating the crap out of Carlo.

I'm watching Congress question Merrick Garland about Hunter etc and trying to make it look like Biden and his family, among other things are big criminals, without any evidence. The Republicans are totally out of their minds. Some of their questions are insane and they keep trying to beat up on Garland. This is very disturbing. I'm not even exactly sure what they are trying to accomplish other than to make themselves look like assholes.

Then he was impeached for instigating a riot on January 6th. Idiocracy is here. People don't pay attention or understand what's going on. If grocery prices are higher, it's Biden's fault. It's Biden's fault that Russia invaded Ukraine. Biden got big paybacks from Hunter when he was making money and worse yet, Hunter is selling his art and then Biden is giving prime positions to those who paid lots of money for Hunter's art... If the deficit got huge under Trump, it's because of Biden. And did you know that Biden supports totally open borders so that cartels can bring in lots of fentanyl for children in day cares. Okay. Biden didn't really poison the child that died of fentanyl in the day care, but too many Americans believe that other shit. Our education system has failed us and to make it worse, good teachers are being fired for teaching about race and gender or worse of all, anything related to sex. I read about one today who was fired for having her middle school students read the unabridged diary of Anne Frank because dog forbid, Frank described male and female genitals in the book.. She was 12 when she wrote about her experiences hiding from Nazis but our little 12 year olds can't handle reading about the difficult experiences of a 12 year old!!! WTF! .Somehow a crooked grifter has invaded the brains of a lot of people, including many in Congress. I've never seen anything like this.
