And the more disturbing part is that there’s such a large fraction of the American electorate whose actually want to gobble that up.

It’s a large fraction of Iowa caucus goers (a low number) but a low percentage of the total electorate. I'm not sure whether or not it will turn out a large enough minority to get trump within cheatin’ distance of a win, but we’re certainly going to find out in a year and three days. I’m getting a growing sense that the MAGA revolution might just fizzle, and trumpsuckers try to regroup.
The reason for my optimism is that most of the electorate - ON BOTH SIDES - (omg goes running) are 110% oblivious to any of the political crap we talk about here.
I feel like the great majority are going to start waking up like “Wait, what? That dude again? WTF” and are going to realize they’ve been there, done that and it didn’t work out so good in the end …
Just a feeling, and feelings are subject to abrupt change.

I printed copies of this at the library and gave one to some friends who run the checkout desk. They clustered around it and loud un-library laughter broke out. So, who is this Anthony Citrano? Is he the investment pro? There are a few Citranos on google & I didn't have time to go through all the writeups. Anyway, in this condensed little piece of op-ed dynamite he says just what I think about DJT, and he makes it screamingly funny. (I'm glad he didn't get into Trump's hygienic deficiencies -- he's gross enough without the b.o. stuff.) Isn't Trump just like a James Bond villain from the 60s/70s Bond films? He even resembles Goldfinger -- take a look at Gert Frobe again, another chubby German baddie with Colby Jack skin tone and swinelike eyelashes. Except Trump isn't clever enough to do Bond dialogue. He really belongs in an Austin Powers caper film, where his name would be something like Blowjob.

Like the creature Armus in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode 'Skin of Evil'. Except it is the reverse case; in the episode there existed a race who shed their evil into a physical form and rejected it, whereas in USA the evil form is being embraced by a large segment of the population.

I disagree. Look at how many votes he received in the last two elections. And he’s likely to get a sizeable fraction in the next one, too.

I prefer to look at the Iowa caucuses and realize that among the hardest core Iowa Republican Evangelical Bleevers, Agent Orange was able to eke out a bit more than half the votes. I won't be surprised if he loses the popular vote by some 8 digit number this time.
Of course he will try to get his goons to take the office by force again, but I hope that this time, his effort is met with the lethal response it warrants.

Yes, sure. But even if he does lose by such a large margin it still remains that there’s and uncomfortably large fraction of Americans comfortable with his horribleness.

It is critical to remember that people can be sheep, but not stupid. Partisan intelligence is outside the realm of general intelligence. The disturbing thing about Trump fellowship is that people support whatever Trump is on about. This whole anti-Ukraine thing would have been unthinkable by the GOP in the mid-1980s. Add things like QAnon and it becomes disturbingly clear that these people are almost desperate for a despot (an alt-right one).

If he loses again, I anticipate more widespread violence. There had better be beefed up security at every vote processing center and state house.

I work from a different set of definitions than you do, then. Here are a few characteristics of MAGA extremists that meet the definition of stupid, for me:
1. Listening to Trump and not being able to discern that he is a propagandist, demagogue, liar, and conman. This should have been manifest to anyone who heard him, back in 2011/12 as he launched his birtherism movement. If you can't figure out such a blatant con artist as Trump, you are unintelligent. That discernment is a basic part of being a citizen.
2. Deciding that you will not tune in to mainstream media, because all those outlets are part of a liberal conspiracy.
3. Accepting any part of Q, Comet Ping Pong, etc. This is accepted by an alarming percentage of Trump's base, and it is lunacy. It indicates a disinclination to use any amount of critical thinking whatever. If you really believe Democrats are into sex trafficking and baby harvesting, you are unintelligent. You lack the basic equipment to assess reality.
4. Believing that Trump, instead of losing in 2020 by over 7 million votes, actually won in a landslide. Putting your critical thinking skills on hold is stupid. It means that you can be sold anything.
