The Race For 2024

Brandon really is clueless;

when asked by MSNBC about his use of the word 'illegal' in an interview on Saturday night, Biden said he regretted it.
'During your response to her heckling of you, you used the word ‘illegal’ when talking about the man who allegedly killed...' host Jonathan Capehart said. Biden interrupted to say 'undocumented', just as Capehart was pivoting to Laken Riley. 'An undocumented person. I shouldn't have used illegal, it’s undocumented,' the president continued.

Daily Mail

Yeah, wouldn’t want anyone to be offended by calling “Lincoln Riley” killer an illegal.

I hope Jose Ibarra finds it in his heart to forgive Brandon.
Using epithets is offensive regardless of who you apply them to.

Indeed, we should call a bank robbery an undocumented cash withdrawal.

Jose Iberra is in the USA illegally and he murdered a US citizen and he’s the victim in this?
No. It's just rude (and inaccurate) to call all undocumented residents "illegals", whether you're talking about a saint or a murderer. It would likewise be rude for me to call 1/6 "the siege of our capitol by r*****s" not because I like the insurrectionists, but because it is rude at best to use classist epithets.

Heaven forbid we be rude to a cold blooded killer. A cold blooded killer that entered the USA illegally. Is “cold blooded killer” an epithet to you? I expect so.

No, it's rude to undocumented persons because they are often demonized in that way. OTOH, why try to explain rudeness to someone who persistently and deliberately calls President Biden "Brandon"?

People who enter the USA illegally are in fact here illegally, they broke the law. I don’t feel obliged to be polite to people who break the law. I understand you view things differently and that’s cool but it’s not the way I view it.

OTOH, why try to explain rudeness to someone who persistently and deliberately calls President Biden "Brandon"?

I don’t need an explanation for what rudeness is, I know what rudeness is. Is it safe to assume that rudeness doesn’t bother you when rudeness is applied to your out group, republicans, Trump etc.

People who enter the USA illegally are in fact here illegally, they broke the law.
Sure; But people who are in the USA without authority are not there illegally. They did not necessarily break the law. Many people enter the US legally, but then remain without authority.

Plenty of people break laws. Only people of minority race are ever referred to as "an illegal". And again, I have only described it as a rude word to use. Because it is, and indeed it is intended to be by those who use it. Or do you wish to convince me that when someone talks about "illegals" invading the country, stealing jobs, voting for Obama, and murdering women, they mean "illegal" as a polite term?

I don’t think so.

You really are clutching at straws. Illegal is a state, a condition. You are either in the USA (for example) legally or you are here illegally. It is not rude to observe this. Another example would be if you were to park your car legally in a designated parking spot or if you park your car in a crosswalk which would be illegal. I don’t think it would be rude to call attention to this obvious illegal act.

Or do you wish to convince me that when someone talks about "illegals" invading the country, stealing jobs, voting for Obama, and murdering women, they mean "illegal" as a polite term?

I’m not sure how much courtesy should be shown to a person that murders a young woman but me personally, I don’t feel obliged to be courteous to such people. After all, it was very rude of Ibarra to murder “Lincoln Riley”. And a wee bit rude that Brandon couldn’t even get the poor girl’s name correct. But Ibarra is the victim here, right?

What if you park legally in a designated parking spot, but then don't move on at the end of the permitted 72 hours*?

Does this make you "an illegal"?

Does it even make you an illegal driver? Does it matter why you didn't (or couldn't) move your car?

*It's a barmy 72 hours in Santa Monica.

What the hell is your problem? You're the only one here calling the murderer a "victim", no one else has said anything of the sort.

And no one who has ever met an American "conservative" is in any confusion over what these people mean when they call someone else "an illegal", or who they apply the term to. For that matter, all you hae to do is open and read a newspaper. It is only, ever, Mexican and other Latin American immigrants who are labeled thus by the "conservative" talking heads.

I have a problem with illegal aliens committing murder (or other crimes) in the USA.

Sure, Jan :rolleyesa:

See, the difference between you and me is that for me, the upsetting part about this case is the murder. Not the murderer's race, nation of origin, or the current status of some paperwork concerning their residency. I actually think it's wrong to rape and murder people no matter what your residency status might be.

Sure, Jan
Your favored method of conceding the point, as I understand it? If so, I accept.

The difference is, this particular murder could have and should have been prevented. It happened because the murderer entered the USA illegally and was not kicked out when he was discovered.

Nah.

This person did not commit murder because his paperwork had not been filed correctly. And even if he had, the murder would still be the upsetting part about it, to me. Not the lack of documentation.

Laken Riley is dead because her killer, Jose Ibarra was in the USA illegally. Had he been kicked out of the USA, she would be alive today.

No, Laken Riley is dead because Jose Ibarra murdered her. The murder, not the status of his immigration papers, was the crime he committed. If the bureaucratic state kept perfect tabs on every single citizen and non-citizen in the country, murders would still happen every day, and it would be no consolation at all to the bereaved that their loved ones were murdered by citizens.

Trump has choice to make when it comes to Haley voters | The Hill - 03/06/24 7:00 PM ET
Former President Trump has a choice to make after Nikki Haley’s exit from the primary race: Try to win over the former South Carolina governor’s supporters or just ignore them?

...
But exit polls found significant percentages of Haley supporters in states such as New Hampshire, Virginia and North Carolina were cool to the idea of backing Trump in November.

That’s given some hope to Democrats worried about President Biden’s weaknesses. They think Trump will struggle to unify Republicans and win the support necessary to defeat Biden in the Electoral College.

...
There was no immediate olive branch from Trump or his team, with the former president blasting Haley’s support as largely driven by Democrats before inviting Haley supporters to back his White House bid.
Hmmm... I don't think that a lot of Republicans will want to vote for Joe Biden. But instead, they may stay home and not vote.

Hutchinson says Trump wants to wrap up nomination soon ‘because he knows the storm clouds are gathering over him’ | The Hill
Former Arkansas Gov Asa Hutchinson
In an interview with MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart, Hutchinson mentioned as potential threats the multiple court cases against Trump, the financial fines and fees he must pay, and the nearly 40 percent of South Carolina GOP voters who voted for Haley.

“I think what Donald Trump is trying to do is to wrap this nomination up very quickly, because he knows the storm clouds are gathering over him,” Hutchinson said.

...
Asked whether he would support Trump if Haley dropped out of the race, Hutchinson said, “Well, I’m not going to support a convicted felon.”

“And of course that remains to be seen. So let’s see who comes out of the Republican convention. It’s not done until it’s done,” Hutchinson responded, adding later, “Let’s wait and see who comes out of the convention. I’m not going to support a convicted felon.”
It's disappointing that it has taken so long to put him on trial. :(

I have a problem with illegal aliens committing murder (or other crimes) in the USA.
I can't imagine losing a daughter at any age. What her family have gone through and will continue going through for the remainder of their lives is a terrible thing, that adds to the crime committed. The grief that they are going to go through, however, will likely be unaltered much, if at all, by the legal residency status of the person who murdered their daughter.

So it seems that the issue of the illegal residency status is more a subject for partisan political sniping, than actually addressing the loss of the young woman and how it will impact their family forever.

Indeed, we don't need to import murderers into the US. We have enough. I do find it odd, however, that the presence of guns in America and the rare use of them to commit mass murders is often raised as a point of why guns aren't actually a danger by people like TSwizzle. People in the US who presence in here isn't legal, generally commit crimes less than average Americans. Yet, when one commits a terrible act of murder, all of a sudden, Illegals are a danger to the average American, and this problem must be dealt with. I'm uncertain why there is this disconnect in logic with guns and Illegals.
