GOP congressman walks back remarks on using nuclear weapons in Gaza | The Hill
Rep. Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) clarified Sunday that his comments that Gaza should be “like Hiroshima and Nagasaki” were not literal, backing off remarks that many interpreted to be endorsing the use of nuclear weapons.

Walberg made the comments at a town hall meeting with constituents last week, with a video going viral in recent days. He said that the U.S. “shouldn’t be spending a dime on humanitarian aid” in the Israel-Hamas war and that Gaza “should be like Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Get it over quick. The same should be in Ukraine.”
Rep. Tim Walberg on X: "My full statement on reporting of my comments on Gaza and Russia: (pic link)" / X
As a child who grew up in the Cold War Era, the last thing I'd advocate for would be the use of nuclear weapons. In a shortened clip, I used a metaphor to convey the need for both Israel and Ukraine to win their wars as swiftly as possible, without putting American troops in harm's way. My reasoning was the exact opposite of what is being reported: the quicker these wars end, the fewer innocent lives will be caught in the crossfire. The sooner Hamas and Russia surrender, the easier it will be to move forward. The use of this metaphor, along with the removal of context, distorted my message, but I fully stand by these beliefs and stand by our allies.

Iran and Hezbollah would have likely responded.
Let's start at the beginning.
Iran and Hezbollah would have responded how?
Genocidal violence against Israel?

School me here. Tell me what they've been doing that they might do differently if Israel pulverized Gaza instead of targeting the Gazan military installations?
Tom

Large demonstrations going on in Israel protesting Netanyahu's handling of the Gaza crisis.

Apparently there a lot of anti-semitic Israelis.
The biggest error is some people's support of the actions in Israel is the equating of Netanyahu as Israel. Israel has every single right to defend itself from Hamas, and that can even mean going on the offensive against Hamas.
There are a few here can cannot grasp what you have just articulated. Well done.

The UN would have sanctioned the fuck out of Israel

Why would Israel start caring now? UN has been sanctioning Israel for years.
But not Iran or Hezbollah or any of the other genocidal enemies of Israel.

UN has made themselves clear. They're mortal enemies of a Zionist state. Violent Islamic terrorists can't be sanctioned because reasons, but UN can send staff to help launch terrorist attacks on Israel. UN had a lot of staff in Gaza while the Islamic terrorists were building up the military installations that they launched October 7 from.
But that's different because Israel is a bunch of Jews and who cares about them.

Go back to Germany!
Tom

US would have turned off the tap.
The US government is not going to turn off the tap to the military industrial complex that actually gets all that money. Those are Americans who can afford to buy government officials and aren't going to let the government "turn off the tap" to their gravy train.

You too, Tom? What percent of UN delegates and employees think like that? What about U.S. Congresswomen who beg Israel to act humanely in Gaza? To no avail. Are ordinary U.S. citizens -- like myself -- who think the Israeli government should act more humanely NOW-- are we wrong? Are we "mortal enemies of a Zionist state"? Are we unconcerned about Israeli lives because "they're just a bunch of Jews"?

Genocidal violence against Israel?
By stepping up assaults and murdering more Israelis. It can always get worse. You and a few others don't seem to appreciate that.
Step up assaults over October 7?
The long list of suicide bomber attacks?

How, exactly, do you think violent Islamic terrorists could step up assaults without getting pulverized by Zionists?
I don't understand what you are referring to, except threats of even more immoral behavior than the UN already agrees to ignore.
Tom

What makes you think at this point in time the Jews would be "slaughtered"? Gaza is basically destroyed. The tunnel system is pretty much destroyed. I cannot see Hamas have any sort of large weapons caches left. I cannot see Hamas mounting another offensive attack anytime in the near or even in the somewhat far future.
The more of Hamas Israel destroys the longer it will be before they can repeat 10/7.
So why not just destroy it all?
Because Israelis and Zionists are more moral and compassionate than Gazans and Islamicists.

Why didn't IDF carpet bomb Gaza, from "the Wall to the Sea"? Start at the northern border and continue on to the Egyptian border.

Multiple attacks from Islamicists for decades have resulted in IDF having the capability of doing it. But they didn't, the Israelis and Likud and the Zionists are much more moral and compassionate than Gazans and their Hamas leadership and their supporters, from Gaza to Iran to UN.

So, why did Israelis choose not to blast the folks who launched the October 7 attack back to the Stone Age? Why did the folks who launched the October 7 attacks choose to do it?
Tom
What makes you think they didn't?

Families of Israeli hostages join protests calling for Netanyahu to go

TEL AVIV — Tens of thousands of demonstrators flooded Israel’s streets for a second straight night Sunday, calling for immediate elections and for the government to urgently negotiate the release of more than 100 hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza.

The twin demands represented a merging of two distinct protest movements — one including the families of hostages, the other led by civil society and the political opposition — which could become the greatest threat yet to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his far-right government.

What makes you think they didn't?
Gazans are still living in Gaza.
Even the UN isn't willing to get them a better place to be.

Do Gazans want a better place than Hamas lead Gaza? Maybe.
I'm not seeing any evidence though.

Tom

Do you really believe Hamas can be destroyed completely and stop the terror attacks completely. That if enough Gazans are killed they will give up their ambitions?
Of course not. The objective is to push the next 10/7 as far into the future as possible.

1) a Two State solution with enough land and resources for each to ensure both Israel and the Palestinian State are viable, with mutually beneficial security arrangements and freedoms for citizens of both States,

Except that this has been tried and didn't work out.

When?

Be specific.

In what year was it tried, and under which government?

You realize two-state basically describes 1948 to 1967?
I'm asking for names and dates, not bullshit and blather.

*Here's a hint: what was the first necessary step in order to implement the Oslo Accords in the mid-1990s?
Your question makes no sense--what possible names are you referring to?? And I already gave the dates: 1948-1967. Israel had no control over either Gaza or the West Bank. Yet the result was war, not peace. None of the currently claimed grievances existed at that time, thus they can't possibly be the cause of the conflict.

Do you really believe Hamas can be destroyed completely and stop the terror attacks completely. That if enough Gazans are killed they will give up their ambitions?

It's certainly mathematically possible. About 4% of Gaza's population has already been killed; infrastructure is destroyed; children are eating grass -- so deaths will continue to rise.
Please explain you math. Because we are at about 1%. Hamas would have you believe they were all civilians, a more honest accounting makes it about 40% combatants.

But even if 100% of Gazans are killed, there are many millions of others -- Muslims, Christians, atheists and, yes, many Jews -- who will be annoyed. Expect conflict to escalate (not diminish) if the bloodthirsty Netanyahu continues his genocide.
The conflict size is dependent on how much money Iran and the like pour into the conflict, not upon anything Israel does. And saying "continues his genocide" is wife-beating. The continual use of the label doesn't make it so.

Large demonstrations going on in Israel protesting Netanyahu's handling of the Gaza crisis.

Apparently there a lot of anti-semitic Israelis.

This genocide is hated all around the world, even in Israel itself. The one exception is the perverse lust for blood in the U.S.A.

You pretend to care about the Jews but will not accept collateral damage in defense--which means that in the end you would side with genocide because stopping it would be evil.

Wife-beating.

You are presuming that the violence is a reaction to Israeli actions--but if so why do we not see such violence in the areas of actual genocide in the world? Hint: Because it's not Israel's actions that are the driving force, but the money that's being provided for terror. The reality is correlation is negative--the more Israel smashes the terrorists the less damage they suffer.

I agree a lot of people in Israel think genocide is peachy keen.

What makes you think they didn't?
Gazans are still living starving in Gaza.
FTFY
Because the UN and Hamas are sitting on the aid.

400+ trucks just sitting there in Gaza, yet you blame Israel.

So that makes it okay to carpet bomb Gaza?
It is quite obvious that none of you even know what "carpet bomb" means. Israel doesn't even have aircraft capable of carpet bombing.
