What is it with you and boomers? The only reason I keep my account is to check to see what's going on in our city, as the government site is on Facebook. I never post on FB and have probably posted on it less than 10 times since I opened an account around 2008. Damn time flies.

I have several millennial friends who are constantly on FB. My millennial niece posts there sometimes. I know this because sometimes out of curiosity, I take a look to see what they are up to. I even warned one that she probably should stop posting pictures of her pretty grown daughter on Facebook.

I know there are boomers who post on FB, but the few who I know only post a few friendly things now and then and all but one of them are liberals. One was a former poster here and the other one is a local atheist. The one Christian Trump supporter I know who posts there is a nurse who I briefly worked with in 2018. She's a mess, who almost lost her life due to her own stupidity when she caught COVID. I used to try and help her due to her problems, but now I don't even look at her FB page. She voted for Trump again and I find that depressing. The only time she ever texts me is when she needs advice. I try hard not to judge anyone, even if I strongly disagree with their beliefs or politics. People can't help who they are, as we are all influenced by genetics and how the environment influences us. So, please stop with the boomer stereotypes. I've had enough of that bullshit.

"OK Boomer" isn't something you say to your kindly grandmother who just invited you over for tea and biscuits, it's something you say about a grown-ass adult who is having a tantrum in public for no reason, or who is demanding that you follow their outdated employment/romantic advice based on the pop culture of the 1970s then calling you entitled for not doing what they say or giving them whatever they want. I certainly like dogs much better than humans. We are the ones who have fucked up the planet, started horrible wars, made up idiotic religions, and some of us are extremely greedy. Exactly this. Honestly, if I'm going to toss SoHy into a stereotype, it's more Hippie than Boomer. The same generation there has a few different groups, but you pretty precisely nailed my take on Facebook.

Because I had a lot of Facebook connections to my old evangelical church, and because Facebook just kinda sprays all kinds of shit at users, I had a lot of fucking awful conservative noise coming at me through that content source.

There's so much fake content out there and anyone can be exposed to it.

I left Facebook before they implemented any kind of fact checking the first time, because of rampant falsehoods and virulent Facebook groups.

I assume a lot of it is bot farms and some of it is trolls and some of it is disinformation actions, but I could never be fooled into thinking that the platform is really redeemable. A lot of it is the way the platform invades all aspects of any digital environment it is installed into?

I certainly don't mean everyone of that generation though my parents are "Boomers", or something one more mind-worm away from it. Which is why I'm glad they also left Facebook.

To me it's a classification of having whatever event happen that turns folks like that.

I know that some day, my generation will be the one slipping into senescence one by one.

Honestly, we've only got so much mental faculty to lose. I try to think of a Millennial losing their marbles, and it's like, how would one tell really? We're kinda loopy and traumatized anyway.

And "OK boomer is a slang term made up by millennials to insult us old farts. Speaking of which, I had also read that we old farts should never refer to ourselves that way because ageism is alive and well. Whatever!

My little feelings don't get hurt that easily, it just gets old when younger people make up ageist terms to use against older adults. It's not any different from using racist terms, homophobic/transphobic terms, sexist terms etc, but ageism is supposed to be the last acceptable form of bigotry. Maybe it's because if younger people are lucky, they too will be older adults one day, and it's something they fear. When I was 8 years old, I didn't want to live past 40 because 40 seemed so ancient. Now 40 year olds are babies, or like my 90 year old patients used to tell me when I was in my 60s, "you're just a baby". Seriously. I get it now. Everything is relative. Some 90 year olds are sharp as a tack and some 40 year olds suffer from dementia. Seriously, I had two patients in their 40s who had dementia. It's a genetic disorder.

Let me correct one thing for starters. Boomers didn't put Trump in the WH. It was Gen X. Again, making assumptions about us old people based on what? I'll accept your apology now.

I paid FICA too, when I was younger for my the so called "Greatest Generation", and I was convinced I'd never collect a dime for myself. Luckily I was wrong. The vast majority of older adults would be homeless or supported by their kids if it weren't for SS, so I think we should all be strong supporters of SS and M/care. I support M/care for all too. My Gen X son didn't vote for Trump, but his generation did vote for him more than any other generation, but I won't make generalizations about Gen X.

I've always loved older adults, and now I am one. I chose to care for older adults for most of my nursing career. One of my best friends was in her 60s when I was in my 20s, so we can all get along and have friends of all ages if we choose to. I have millennial friends, Gen X friends and boomer friends. So far, no Gen Z friends, but to be honest, I only know one and he's the son of a Gen X friend, and he's very immature, not that it's my problem. I love teenagers too. How weird is that? But yeah. Each generation is influenced by what happens during their times. We were very influenced by the Viet Nam war, although plenty of our peers supported that war. We referred to them as "business majors." Yes. There was the saying, "never trust anyone over 30" when I was a teenager, but it was really due to the war. We didn't really mean it. My own father told me that my generation was right for being against the war. He supported it at first, but as one who was damaged in war, he finally understood that wars are horrible. He even flew his flag in the distress position when Bush started the Iraq war, and some jerk tore down his flag. I like all generations, but there are both good and bad members of each generation. What more can be said?
