What is it with you and boomers? The only reason I keep my account is to check to see what's going on in our city, as the government site is on Facebook. I never post on FB and have probably posted on it less than 10 times since I opened an account around 2008. Damn time flies.I'm pretty shocked they ever implemented it in the first place.
It's always been a mindworm infection vector for boomers.
I HATE people who make those generalizations! Please don't make generalizations about any group of people
While I basically agree, there are enough shitty people to make me rather dislike people in general.
Please don't make generalizations about any group of people, based on when they were born. I do agree that FB is shit and it's never really fact checked much of anything. Zuckerberg is an ass, who btw, is a millennial, but I'm not going to say all millennials are like him. Okay? That's my rant. I feel better now.![]()
"Boomer" in the derogatory sense is not just a description of age, but behavior. "OK Boomer" isn't something you say to your kindly grandmother who just invited you over for tea and biscuits, it's something you say about a grown-ass adult who is having a tantrum in public for no reason, or who is demanding that you follow their outdated employment/romantic advice based on the pop culture of the 1970s then calling you entitled for not doing what they say or giving them whatever they want. If someone over the age of forty is getting their "news" from alt-right memes posted by Russian bots on Facebook? They're a Boomer. You may be a boomer, but you aren't a Boomer. What is it with you and boomers? The only reason I keep my account is to check to see what's going on in our city, as the government site is on Facebook. I have several millennial friends who are constantly on FB. My millennial niece posts there sometimes. I know this because sometimes out of curiosity, I take a look to see what they are up to. I even warned one that she probably should stop posting pictures of her pretty grown daughter on Facebook.
I know there are boomers who post on FB, but the few who I know only post a few friendly things now and then and all but one of them are liberals. One was a former poster here and the other one is a local atheist. The one Christian Trump supporter I know who posts there is a nurse who I briefly worked with in 2018. She's a mess, who almost lost her life due to her own stupidity when she caught COVID. I used to try and help her due to her problems, but now I don't even look at her FB page. She voted for Trump again and I find that depressing. The only time she ever texts me is when she needs advice. I try hard not to judge anyone, even if I strongly disagree with their beliefs or politics. People can't help who they are, as we are all influenced by genetics and how the environment influences us. So, please stop with the boomer stereotypes. I've had enough of that bullshit.

Well, I don't blame you. After all, you are the product of your genetic and environmental influences, just like the rest of us.While I basically agree, there are enough shitty people to make me rather dislike people in general.

Okay boomer.I mean no harm, just fucking around with some millennial slang, which I don't find cool, but boomers rarely find anything groovy about younger generations. Can you dig it? Peace out y'all.![]()
Exactly this. Honestly, if I'm going to toss SoHy into a stereotype, it's more Hippie than Boomer. The same generation there has a few different groups, but you pretty precisely nailed my take on Facebook."Boomer" in the derogatory sense is not just a description of age, but behavior. Yes, I know that the "baby boom" originally meant something different. On a similar note, "Karen" is some people's actual name, a "faggot" is technically a smallish stack of wood tinder, and "idiot" was once a legitimate category of mental disorders. But language changes.
Honestly, we've only got so much mental faculty to lose. I try to think of a Millennial losing their marbles, and it's like, how would one tell really? We're kinda loopy and traumatized anyway.Exactly this. Honestly, if I'm going to toss SoHy into a stereotype, it's more Hippie than Boomer. Because I had a lot of Facebook connections to my old evangelical church, and because Facebook just kinda sprays all kinds of shit at users, I had a lot of fucking awful conservative noise coming at me through that content source.
There's so much fake content out there and anyone can be exposed to it.
I left Facebook before they implemented any kind of fact checking the first time, because of rampant falsehoods and virulent Facebook groups.
I assume a lot of it is bot farms and some of it is trolls and some of it is disinformation actions, but I could never be fooled into thinking that the platform is really redeemable. A lot of it is the way the platform invades all aspects of any digital environment it is installed into?
I certainly don't mean everyone of that generation though my parents are "Boomers", or something one more mind-worm away from it. Which is why I'm glad they also left Facebook.
To me it's a classification of having whatever event happen that turns folks like that.
I know that some day, my generation will be the one slipping into senescence one by one.
I mean shit, I'm at my MiL's house for my grandpa's funeral. My FiL is about three mind worms past Boomer! He's full-on Floridian now, shed his snowbird wings and everything. I'm so glad they're divorced!
But yes. Politesse gets it.
I bet a Boomer wrote that!I read last night that the term boomer was meant as an insult to anyone who was an older adult, so it sounds pretty ageist to me, regardless of the different interpretations. And "OK boomer is a slang term made up by millennials to insult us old farts. Speaking of which, I had also read that we old farts should never refer to ourselves that way because ageism is alive and well. Whatever!
The irony is that Trump (and Biden) aren't Boomers. I think younger people are sick about being talked down to, but I've seen people younger than me bitch about how the 'younger' people don't work hard enough. Of course, it is all anecdotal.I read last night that the term boomer was meant as an insult to anyone who was an older adult, so it sounds pretty ageist to me, regardless of the different interpretations. This isn't new though. The difference is, you are experience from the other side now. I'd say I started feeling too old with the attack on Israel as the teenagers and college students had a completely different experience for what Palestine - Israel relationship was, that what I grew up with.My little feelings don't get hurt that easily, it just gets old when younger people make up ageist terms to use against older adults.
I like Facebook because of the auto racing and being able to communicate among those at the local major track. But there is a steep price of garbage and noise one must manage through for that benefit. What was this thread about again? Oh yeah. Facebook. I hate it and wish it would disappear, but as long as my city government site only puts info, like is garbage day changed due to a holiday etc. I have no choice but to keep my inactive account open. This is the only social media site I ever post on and sometimes I wonder why I'm still here, or at least I should stay out of the hopeless political forum where people will argue over minutia for months. Oh well. We are human and we do shit like that.
Let me correct one thing for starters. Boomers didn't put Trump in the WH. It was Gen X. Again, making assumptions about us old people based on what? The irony is that Trump (and Biden) aren't Boomers. We develop generation gaps when we forget that different perspectives provide different views.
The boomers effectively put Trump over in two elections. I'm paying out FICA taxes (without whining) to support their retirements, and they want to burn the system that supports them and supported their parents, to the ground. Yes, the Boomers aren't monolithic, so broad brushing isn't fair.

Here's the Generation That Went Strongest for Trump, And the Surprising One That Shifted Left
It was Generation X for the win in last week's landslide victory for Republican Donald Trump over Democrat Kamala Harris.
However, Millennials and Generation Z also shifted to the right.
Only the Baby Boomer generation, which Trump is part of, moved slightly to the left since the 2020 election.

Per Wikipedia Trump is one of the oldest Boomers. Biden is a younger member of the Silent Generation. The irony is that Trump (and Biden) aren't Boomers
This only tells me that baby boomers who had enough sense to wear masks and social distance survived Covid. Tump's boomer base likely died off disproportionately while slurping down hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin. It was Generation X for the win in last week's landslide victory for Republican Donald Trump over Democrat Kamala Harris.

I think it’s a warning! Click on them before they burn your eyes out.Everyday Facebook sends to me a friend suggestion. Always women. They started out as pretty hot women and the more I ignored them the more the less attractive they became. I suspect in about a week and a half they will be sending me full on bridge trolls.
