Well... it's Trump... again. #47, here we go.

Trump's tariffs start tonight at midnight. Whoo hoo!!!

According to a recently released study, President Donald Trump’s upcoming tariffs against Canada and Mexico are set to significantly increase car prices, adding to rising costs for everyday goods consumed by most Americans. At the same time, Trump has largely ignored the affordability issue even as national polls show rising consumer anger.

The study from Michigan’s Anderson Economic Group determined that the tariffs could lead to as much as an additional $12,000 added to the cost of a car purchase which would likely be passed on to consumers. The group estimates that the cost of a crossover utility vehicle would rise by at least $4,000 and that electric vehicle costs would be three times that.
“That kind of cost increase will lead directly—and I expect almost immediately—to a decline in sales of the models that have the biggest trade impacts,” Patrick Anderson, the CEO of the group, told Bloomberg.

Billionaire Warren Buffet recently criticized Trump’s tariff plans, calling them an “act of war” in a new documentary.

“Over time, they are a tax on goods. I mean, the tooth fairy doesn’t pay ’em!” Buffet said.

If you'd asked me two decades ago how I felt about David Brooks, "Detest" might have been one of the first words to pop into my head. But with America's right-wing now plunged into the abyss of treason, hatred, greed, cowardice and hypocrisy, Brooks' recent speech seems like a pleasant breath of sanity and useful insights.
Fuck Brooks. He helped normalize the new GOP. He wasn't a conservative, he was an apologist for the GOP. Hr just hid it better. These right wing assholes don't like that it has gone this far but they contributed much to this cause.
You leftists and your purity tests! This is why we can't have conversatio- oh wait moderates do purity tests too because they will only ever choose the moderate option and nothing else, and dismiss anything that doesn't fit their idea of what moderate is as too extreme.
Right? Everybody hates us centrists. They trash us, and then lay claim to our centrism!
Left and right, we're on everyone's shit list.
Everybody's on my shitlist. Nothing personal.
Me too. But truth be known, it’s because I am TOTC. (The One True Centrist).

Mike Johnson thinks those protesters at GOP town halls are paid Democratic protesters.

He probably knows that's not true but is lying anyway.
Or maybe,
He knows how many of the people the Teaparty built their power on were paid to be stupid in public. So he assumed that the Democrats were catching up.

CNBC Daily Open: Stocks tank as Trump says tariffs will start Tuesday

“Tariffs” may be the most beautiful word in the dictionary for U.S. President Donald Trump, but it is one that stokes fear in investors. Risk-on assets such as stocks and cryptocurrency sank Monday after Trump refused to pardon Canada and Mexico from a hefty 25% duty on all goods imported from both countries.

In the markets, the S&P 500 fell the most since Dec. 18 and is testing its 200-day moving average, generally seen as a support level — meaning that if the index dips below that line, it could fall even further. Bitcoin sank below $90,000, erasing in a flash its 10% gain from Trump’s announcement on Sunday of the creation of a U.S. strategic crypto reserve.
On Monday, the S&P 500 fell 1.76%, its worst day since December, and is now in the red in 2025. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 1.48% and the Nasdaq Composite tumbled 2.64%. Bitcoin slumped 12% to around $82,000 as of early Asia trading. The pan-European Stoxx 600 index climbed 1.07%, bolstered by defense stocks surging after regional leaders held security talks on Sunday. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said she will reveal more details on the “rearm Europe plan” Tuesday.

I am sick to my stomach that Europe and Ukraine are acting like they need to play nice with the US. This is weakness that will only result in them getting stabbed in the dick. It is time to bring the hammer down. Trade embargo. End intelligence sharing and military cooperation. Start their own nuclear programs beyond England and France. Dissolve NATO and form their own alliance excluding the US. Canada and Mexico too, along with Japan, South Korea, Australia, etc. Time to isolate and maintain their own independence. Time to start treating the US like Iran and North Korea. Unfortunately they are too dependent on the US. Like an abused wife that feels like she has no hope without her abuser and too scared to endure without his support.

Yeah, you are not alone in that.

Oh, wait.

Start their own nuclear programs beyond England and France.
All European countries are signatories to the NPT, so only the UK and France (of all European states) are able to have nuclear weapons under international law.

There's no reason why those two countries can't: Massively increase their nuclear arsenals; Add delivery systems; and/or Sign mutual defence pacts with other European or non-European nations, though.

"International law"?? This is 2025 goddammit, not 2024.

Treaties aren't permanent. With the world's two biggest nuclear powers now allied and already dividing up one European country, there is only one thing holding me back from suggesting that the West European countries undertake a rapid expansion of their nuclear arsenal.

What's holding me back? Political support for the right-wing has been rising rapidly in France and Germany. Fascism is on the rise; a new world order is emerging with, at least in the short term, Vladimir Putin as Capo di tutti capi.

[Exaggeration? Let's hope so. But the world situation is very grim.]

Markets finally react to tariff threat, but today they seem to maybe think an agreement is possible.

We'll see if Trump is sold on putting America into a recession.

Well, the Market is starting to take the tariffs seriously, down around 700 pts (1.5%) at the moment, and below where it was when he took office. Trump really loves people hanging on every damn word, and has a propensity for changing direction at a moment's notice. So the markets were kind of thinking he got his attention, let's move on. But at the moment, Trump appears settled on tariffs on our largest trade partners.

What is incredible is how the in Canada, the flagging Liberal party is resurging, because the Conservative leader sounds too much like Trump. National pride is rising in the nation and Canada, as a whole, are pissed at Trump and these ridiculous efforts. Prices in the US are going to go up shortly.
